continued safe operation of your printer.
Your Xerox®printer and supplies are designed and tested to eet strict safety require ents. These include safety
agency evaluation and certification, and co pliance with electro agnetic regulations and established
environ ental standards.
The safety and environ ent testing and perfor ance of this product have been verified using Xerox®aterials
only.
Note: Unauthorized alterations, which can include the addition of new functions or connection of external
devices, can affect the product certification. For ore infor ation, contact your Xerox representative.

Electrical Safety
GENERAL GUIDELINES
WWaarrnniinngg::
• Do not push objects into slots or openings on the printer. Touching a voltage point or shorting out a
part could result in fire or electric shock.
• Do not re ove the covers or guards that are fastened with screws unless you are installing optional
equip ent and are instructed to do so. Power off the printer when perfor ing these installations.
Disconnect the power cord when re oving covers and guards for installing optional equip ent. Except
for user-installable options, there are no parts that you can aintain or service behind these covers.
The following are hazards to your safety:
• The power cord is da aged or frayed.
• Liquid is spilled into the printer.
• The printer is exposed to water.
• The printer e its s oke, or the surface is unusually hot.
• The printer e its unusual noise or odors.
• The printer causes a circuit breaker, fuse, or other safety device to activate.
If any of these conditions occur, do the following:
1. Power off the printer i ediately.
2. Disconnect the power cord fro the electrical outlet.
3. Call an authorized service representative.
POWER CORD SAFETY INFORMATION
Before operating your printer, read the following instructions carefully. For details, contact your Xerox representative.

• The electrical supply for the device ust eet the require ents stated on the data plate on the rear
of the device. If you are not sure that your electrical supply eets the require ents, consult your local
electricity provider or a licensed electrician.
• Do not use an extension cord.
• Do not re ove or odify the power cord.
Refer to these instructions to ensure the continued and safe operation of your printer.

• Use the power cord that is supplied with your printer.
• Plug the power cord directly into a properly grounded electrical outlet. Ensure that each end of the cord is
connected securely. If you do not know if an outlet is grounded, ask an electrician to verify that the outlet is
grounded.
• Do not use a ground adapter plug to connect the printer to an electrical outlet that does not have a ground
connection ter inal.
WWaarrnniinngg:: To avoid the potential of an electrical shock, ensure that the printer is grounded properly.
Electrical products can be hazardous if isused.
• Verify that the printer is plugged into an outlet that provides the correct voltage and power. Review the
electrical specification of the printer with an electrician, if necessary.
• Do not place the printer in an area where people can step on the power cord.
• Do not place objects on the power cord.
• If the power cord beco es frayed or worn, replace the power cord.
• Do not unplug or plug in the power cord while the printer is powered on.
• To avoid an electrical shock and da age to the cord, grasp the plug when you unplug the power cord.
• The electrical outlet ust be near the printer and ust be easily accessible.
The power cord is attached to the printer as a plug-in device on the back cover of the printer. If it is necessary to
disconnect all electrical power fro the printer, disconnect the power cord fro the electrical outlet. For details, refer
to the User Guide.
BATTERY SAFETY INFORMATION
• The Printed Wire Board Asse bly Electronic Switching Syste (PWBA ESS) in this printer uses a lithiu battery.
• Do not atte pt to repair or replace the lithiu battery. If there is a proble with the battery, contact an
authorized service representative to correct the proble .
WWaarrnniinngg::
• If the battery for the PWBA ESS is installed incorrectly, there is a risk of explosion.
• The lithiu battery in this printer contains Perchlorate Material. For infor ation about the special
handling procedures associated with Perchlorate Material, refer to www.dtsc.ca.gov/hazardouswaste/
perchlorate.
EMERGENCY POWER OFF
If any of the following conditions occur, power off the printer i ediately and disconnect the power cord fro the
electrical outlet. Contact an authorized Xerox service representative to correct the proble if:
• The equip ent e its unusual odors or akes unusual noises.
• The power cable is da aged or frayed.
• A wall panel circuit breaker, fuse, or other safety device has been tripped.

Operational Safety
Your printer and supplies were designed and tested to eet strict safety require ents. These include safety agency
exa ination, approval, and co pliance with established environ ental standards.
Your attention to the following safety guidelines helps to ensure the continued, safe operation of your printer.
OPERATIONAL GUIDELINES
• Do not re ove any paper trays while the printer is printing.
• Do not open the doors when the printer is printing.
• Do not ove the printer when it is printing.
• Keep hands, hair, neckties, and so on, away fro the exit and feed rollers.
• Protective covers, which require tools for the re oval, protect the hazard areas within the printer. Do not re ove
the protective covers.
• Do not override any electrical or echanical interlock devices.
• Do not atte pt to re ove paper that is ja ed deeply inside the printer. Power off the printer pro ptly, then
contact your local Xerox representative.
• Ensure that the rear right cover is attached. To connect an interface cable, open the rear right cover.
OZONE RELEASE
This printer produces ozone during nor al operation. The a ount of ozone produced is dependent on copy volu e.
Ozone is heavier than air and is not produced in a ounts large enough to har anyone. Install the printer in a well-
ventilated roo .

PRINTER LOCATION
• Place the printer on a level, solid, non-vibrating surface with adequate strength to hold its weight. To find the
weight for your printer configuration, refer to the Specifications chapter of the User Guide.
• Do not block or cover the slots or openings on the printer. These openings are provided for ventilation and to
prevent overheating of the printer.
• Place the printer in an area where there is an adequate space for operation and servicing.
• Place the printer in a dust-free area.
• Do not store or operate the printer in hot, cold, or hu id environ ents.
• Do not place the printer near a heat source.
• To avoid exposure of light-sensitive co ponents, do not place the printer in the direct sunlight.
• Do not place the printer where it is exposed to the cold air flow fro an air-conditioning syste .
• Do not place the printer in locations that are susceptible to vibrations.

• For opti u perfor ance, use the printer at the elevations that are specified in the User Guide.
PRINTER SUPPLIES
• Use the supplies designed for your printer. The use of unsuitable aterials can cause poor perfor ance and a
possible safety hazard.
• Follow all warnings and instructions arked on, or supplied with, the product, options, and supplies.
• Store all consu ables in accordance with the instructions given on the package or container.
• Keep all consu ables away fro the reach of children.
• Never throw toner, toner cartridges, dru cartridges, or waste cartridges into an open fla e.
• When handling cartridges, for exa ple toner cartridges, avoid skin and eye contact. Eye contact with toner can
cause irritation and infla ation. Do not atte pt to disasse ble the cartridge, which can increase the risk of
skin or eye contact.
CCaauuttiioonn:: Use of non-Xerox supplies is not reco ended. The Xerox Warranty or Service Agree ent do
not cover da age, alfunction, or degradation of perfor ance caused by use of non-Xerox supplies, or
the use of Xerox supplies not specified for this printer.

Maintenance Safety
Do not atte pt any aintenance procedure that is not specifically described in the docu entation supplied with
your printer.
• Clean the device with a dry lint-free cloth only.
• Do not burn any consu ables or routine aintenance ite s. For infor ation on Xerox®supplies recycling

WWaarrnniinngg:: Do not use aerosol cleaners. Aerosol cleaners can be explosive or fla able when used on
electro echanical equip ent.
When installing the device in a hallway or si ilar restricted area, additional space require ents can apply. Ensure
that you co ply with all workspace safety regulations, building codes, and fire codes for your area.

Basic Regulations
Xerox has tested this printer to electro agnetic e ission and i unity standards. These standards are designed to
itigate interference caused or received by this printer in a typical office environ ent.
UNITED STATES FCC REGULATIONS
This equip ent is tested and found to co ply with the li its for a Class A digital device, pursuant to Part 15 and
Part 18 of the FCC Rules. These li its are designed to provide a reasonable protection against har ful interference
when the equip ent is operated in a co ercial environ ent. This equip ent generates, uses, and can radiate a
radio frequency energy. If the equip ent is not installed and used in accordance with these instructions, it can
cause har ful interference to radio co unications. Operation of this equip ent in a residential area is likely to
cause har ful interference. Users are required to correct the interference at their own expense.
If this equip ent does cause har ful interference to radio or television reception, which can be deter ined by

The following infor ation has been developed to assist users and has been issued in relation to the European
Union (EU) Energy-Related Products Directive, specifically the Lot 4 study on I aging Equip ent. The Lot 4 study
on I aging Equip ent requires anufacturers to i prove environ ental perfor ance of in-scope products and
supports the EU action plan on energy efficiency.
In-scope products are Household and Office equip ent that eet the following criteria:
• Standard onochro e for at products with a axi u speed less than 66 A4 i ages per inute
• Standard color-for at products with a axi u speed less than 51 A4 i ages per inute
Environm ntal B n fits of Dupl x Printing
Most Xerox products have duplex printing capability, also known as 2-sided printing. Two-sided printing enables you
to print on both sides of the paper auto atically, and therefore helps to reduce the use of valuable assets by

reducing your paper consu ption. The Lot 4 I aging Equip ent agree ent requires that on odels greater than
or equal to 40-pp color or greater than or equal to 45-pp onochro e, the duplex function has been auto-
enabled during the setup and driver installation. So e Xerox odels below these speed bands can be enabled with
2-sided printing settings defaulted on at the ti e of installation. Continuous use of the duplex function reduces the
environ ental i pact of your work. However, if you require 1-sided printing, you can change the print settings in
the print driver.
Pap r Typ s
This product can be used to print on both recycled paper and virgin paper, approved to an environ ental
stewardship sche e, which co plies with EN12281 or a si ilar quality standard. Lighter weight paper of 60 g/ ²,
which contains less raw aterial and thus saves assets per print, can be used in certain applications. You are
encouraged to verify if lighter weight paper is suitable for your printing needs.
ENERGY STAR
The ENERGY STAR progra is a voluntary sche e to pro ote the develop ent and
purchase of energy-efficient odels, which help to reduce the environ ental i pact.
Details on the ENERGY STAR progra and odels qualified to ENERGY STAR can be found
at the following website: www.energystar.gov.
The ENERGY STAR and ENERGY STAR ark are registered United States trade arks.
The ENERGY STAR I aging Equip ent Progra is a tea effort between the United
States, European Union, Japanese govern ents, and the office equip ent industry. This
i age-equip ent progra pro otes energy-efficient copiers, printers, fax, ultifunction
printers, personal co puters, and onitors. Reducing product energy consu ption helps to
co bat s og, acid rain, and long-ter changes to the cli ate by decreasing the e issions
that result fro generating electricity.

Pow r Consumption and Activation Tim
The a ount of electricity that a device consu es depends on the way the device is used. This device is designed
and configured to enable you to reduce your electricity usage.
To reduce energy consu ption, your device is configured to use Energy Saver odes. After the last print, the device
transitions to Ready ode. In Ready ode, the device can print again i ediately. If the device is not used for a
specified period, the device transitions to Sleep ode. To reduce power consu ption, only essential functions
re ain active in Sleep ode. The device takes longer to produce the first print after it exits Sleep Mode, than it
takes to print in Ready ode. This delay is the result of the printer that wakes up and is typical of ost i aging
devices on the arket.
To save power, you can configure Energy Saver odes. The following options are available:
•JJoobb AAccttiivvaatteedd: The device wakes when it detects activity. To set the delay before the device enters Sleep Mode,
enter the nu ber of inutes.
•SSlleeeepp aanndd wwaakkee uupp aatt sscchheedduulleedd ttii eess: The device wakes and sleeps according to a schedule that you
specify.

•AAuuttoo PPoowweerr OOffff: To allow the device to power off after a period of ti e in Sleep Mode, select Auto Power Off.
To set the delay before the printer powers off fro the Sleep Mode setting, enter the nu ber of hours.
To change the Energy Saver ode settings, refer to the System Administrator Guide at www.xerox.co /office/
ALB81XXdocs. For further assistance, contact your Syste Ad inistrator.

Note:
• Energy Saver cannot be deactivated.
• Changing the default Energy Saver activation ti es can result in an overall higher energy consu ption
of the device. Before you set a long activation ti e for Energy Saver odes, consider the increase in
device power consu ption.

This device is ENERGY STAR®-qualified under the ENERGY STAR Progra Require ents for I aging Equip ent. The
transition ti e fro Ready ode to Sleep ode can be set fro 0–60 or 0–120 inutes, depending on printer
odel. The default value is set to 0 inutes. The axi u transition ti e fro Ready ode to Sleep ode can
