COPY VOLUME RANGE
–The DocuColor 40/30 Family is designed to be a
production system. Initial volume should be limited to
100,000 pages per month for the DocuColor 40 and
80,000 pages per month of the DocuColor 30 until
sufficient customer experience shows that higher
volumes are feasible. Pages are defined as a
combination of prints and copies. Monthly volumes in
excess of specified pages may result in increased service
frequency and reduced uptime (see chart below).

–The number of pages that can be printed/copied between
service calls depend on many factors. Some of these
factors are customer requirements for quality, throughput
materials (papers), toner coverage on the page and
environmental factors. Trained operators can optimize
performance output and minimize service calls.

PAPER SELECTION GUIDELINES
UNCOATED PAPER
–The recommended paper is Xerox Color Xpressions 24
lb. (smooth, bright, white paper). This bond-grade paper
is specifically designed to deliver the specified image
quality and machine performance over the recommended
range of environmental conditions. Equivalent papers
should have similar performance.
–The recommended 110 lb. index paper or equivalent can
be run satisfactorily from the MSI. However, image
quality and performance will not match the performance
of Xerox Color Xpressions 24 lb. paper or equivalent
papers. Image mottle may occur when printing on index
or cover stocks that are rough and/or have poor
formation.
Image Mottle-Uncoated Paper

To meet image quality requirements on
stocks between 60 lb. cover and 110 lb.
index (160 and 220 gsm), it may be
necessary to use coated cover stocks or
premium smooth uncoated cover stocks.

COATED PAPER
Coated paper test results indicate that machine performance
varies and may not meet the same consistent performance of
Xerox Color Xpressions. Coated papers are designed for
use in offset equipment and, when used in xerographic
equipment, may cause multisheet feeds, misfeeds, skewing
and jams. For best results, coated paper should be:
•Obtained with the highest cut quality for xerographic
use.
•Fanned vigorously before loading into the paper trays
•Stored in moisture proof sealed packaging when not in
use.
The performance of coated paper is greatly affected by
temperature and humidity extremes. Both operating and
storage conditions should not exceed 75° F or 60%
relative humidity.

Coated Paper-Duplex Applications
80 lb.

Coated stocks above 60 lb. cover (160 gsm), run from
the MSI, are most likely to exhibit good performance.
Stocks less than 80 lb. text (120 gsm) must be run from
the MSI. There is a possibility of intermittent second side
deletions and other image quality defects when copies
are duplexed.
80 lb. text (120 gsm), when manually duplexed from MSI,
may exhibit second side deletions. Trays 2 and 3 may be
used for duplexing 80 lb.text (120 gsm) stocks. Note:
This weight stock may exhibit reduced gloss when run
through Trays 2 and 3.
Stocks between 80 lb. text and 60 lb. cover (120-160
gsm) must be run from the MSI. There is a possibility of
intermittent second side deletions when copies are
duplexed.

OUTPUT CAPACITY
–The standard output tray will handle up to 200 sheets of
24 lb. Xerox Color Xpressions paper. Thicker papers will
reduce capacity of this tray
MULTI-SHEET INSERTER (MSI)
–MSI capacity is up to 50 sheets for Xerox Color
Xpressions 24 lb. paper. Capacity is less for thicker
stocks.
COPY QUALITY
–Color quality is subjective and will appear to vary under
different surrounding light conditions.
–Like other color reproduction processes, there will be
some variation in output quality over time.
–Copy quality is strongly influenced by paper surface
structure, texture and color. Key applications should be
printed on the DocuColor 40/30 Family of products using
representative customer paper and reviewed by the
customer.
DUPLEX COPYING
–The DocuColor 40/30 Family of products will auto-duplex
from the internal trays on papers up to 11”x17”.
–The Multi-Sheet Inserter cannot be used for auto-duplex.
Manual duplexing is available through the MSI.
COPY ALIGNMENT
–Image-to-paper placement can vary up to .08” (2 mm)
depending on paper, stock, machine setup, and other
factors.
–Front-to-back alignment for duplex can vary up to .16”
(4.1 mm).
IMAGEABLE AREA SIZE
–The maximum image area that can be scanned from the
document glass is 11.69” x 17”.
–DocuColor 40/30 software version 4.4 has an imageable
area in the copier mode of 11.69” ±0.5% x 17” ±0.5%.
In the printer mode the imageable area increases to
11.69” ±0.5% x 17.13” ±0.5%. Additionally, the image
can be centered in the 18” direction of the paper to aid
back-to-front alignment of duplex images. This centering
operation can be performed by a Xerox Service
Representative.

COLOR PAGES IN OTHER COPIERS
In all situations where documents will be run through
several devices, the DocuColor 40/30 print must be made
first.
–DocuColor 40/30 color pages will usually run well in the
DocuTech 135. A pretest of specific materials is
recommended before committing to long runs.
–Do not use DocuColor 40/30 inserts in a 5100 due to
incompatibility with the fusers.
–If you plan on running DocuColor 40/30 copies or prints
through other equipment, it is highly recommended you
test the application before committing to the job. Many
factors impact the success of running DocuColor 40/30
copies in other equipment.
TRANSPARENCIES
–The rated speed for transparencies is 3.6 per minute.
–New High Productivity Transparencies is 15 per minute.
–Transparencies recommended for this product are:
•Xerox Removable Paper Stripe: 3R3108
•Xerox Digital Color Removable Stripe: 3R5765.
•New Xerox High Productivity Paper Back
Transparencies : 3R5764
−The 3R5765 premium transparency is designed to
provide optimum image quality, including more vivid
colors.
−The DocuColor 40/30 prints transparencies through the
MSI only.
–Transparencies are a non-absorbent media and may
exhibit non-uniform density in large solid areas from the
fuser agent film. This may be reduced by wiping the
imaged transparency with an absorbent tissue or cloth.

OPTIONS AND ACCESSORIES
The following accessories are available for use with the
DocuColor 40/30 Family:
Automatic Document Feeder (ADF):
−The ADF supports originals that range in paper weight
from 16 to 28 lb. bond.
−Input original sizes range from a minimum of 5.5” x 8.5”
paper up to a maximum of 11” x 17” paper.
−The ADF will not automatically copy two-sided originals.
It will support duplex copying of one-sided originals.
−The maximum speed of the ADF for 8.5” x 11” long edge
feed originals is 8 feeds per minute, assuming all
originals are of the same size.
−The ADF supports mixed size original input and
automatic color sensing.
Edit Pad:
−For easy access to the Touch Screen, the Edit Pad is
located on the workspace on top of the DocuColor 40/30.
−The edit pad cannot be mounted on the platen cover.
−The accuracy of the Edit Pen is within .5mm or less.
−For customers who are familiar with previous Xerox color
product edit capabilities, Merge Image and Marker Edit
are not available on the DocuColor 40/30 Edit Pad.

Stacker/Stapler:
−The Stacker/Stapler operates in three modes:
1. Copies made from the DocuColor 40/30 will be offset
per job and stacked.
2) Prints made from a digital front end can be stapled
per set and stacked, or stacked and offset without
stapling.
3) The Stapler can be used as an off-line convenience
stapler.
−The total number of copies per stapled set is 50 for
normal weight paper and 40 for heavy weight or coated
paper. If the stack of paper exceeds 5 mm, the number of
sheets should be reduced to produce an efficient staple.
When sets are automatically stapled, the quantity is
controlled by the DocuColor 40/30.
−The capacity of the Stacker catch tray is 1000 sheets of
8.5”x11” and 500 sheets of 11”x17” or larger 24 lb. Bond.
The exact quantity will vary with the paper weight.
−When stapling small sets, the stacking capacity may be
reduced due to the thickness of the staple vs. the
thickness of the paper. Example, two page sets will stack
100 sets and 20 page sets will stack 50 sets.
−The Stacker/Stapler requires an additional grounded
power source within reach of the 8 foot power cord that is
provided with the Stacker/Stapler.
−The Stacker/Stapler supports the following paper sizes:

20-Bin Sorter:
−The sorter capacity for 28 lb. bond is 50 sheets of paper
per bin and 200 sheets in the Top Tray.
−All sheets are delivered to the Top Tray unless otherwise
specified – sorted materials must be specifically invoked.
−Transparencies and interleaves are delivered to the clear
Transparency Tray on the top of the sorter bins.
−Heavyweight paper fed from the MSI will be delivered to
the Top Tray.

−The paper sizes that can be fed into the Sorter are:

−12 x 18 inch paper may be fed from the MSI into the
Sorter, using the face up feature.
HCF 2500 (High Capacity Feeder):
−The HCF 2500 has a capacity of 2500 sheets of 20 lb.
bond paper.
−Approximately 20 sheets of paper will remain in the
feeder when the system signals the operator that the
feeder is empty.
−The HCF 2500 will accept a minimum media size of 10”
feed edge x 8” length (254x203 mm). All media larger
than this minimum size in both dimensions can be run out
of the HCF 2500. For example, legal paper (8.5” x 14”)
cannot be fed from the HCF 2500 due to size restrictions.
−The DocuColor40/30 system does not recognize the HCF
2500 as a separate paper supply. Instead, the system
recognizes the HCF 2500 as the MSI. All functions
supported by the MSI are supported through the HCF
2500. The HCF 2500 operator functions are available
through the user interface screens for the MSI.
−All media that is acceptable input from the MSI can be
fed from the HCF 2500, providing it meets size
requirements.
−The speed of the HCF 2500 is the same as the MSI.
Refer to the Rated Print Speed (Pages/Min.) heading on
page one of this document for details.
−The HCF 2500 does not enable auto-duplex. Manual
duplex is available through the HCF 2500.
−The MSI is still available for use with an HCF 2500
installed. It can be used for small jobs using media or
sizes that are not currently loaded in the HCF 2500. The
MSI will also accommodate media sizes that are not
available from the HCF 2500.
