Conventions
Note: A note identifies information that co ld help yo .
WWaarrnniinngg:: A warning identifies something that co ld damage the prod ct hardware or software.
CCaa ttiioonn:: A ca tion indicates a potentially hazardo s sit ation that co ld inj re yo .
Different types of statements incl de:
CCAAUUTTIIOONN——PPOOTTEENNTTIIAALL IINNJJUURRYY:: Indicates a risk of inj ry.
CCAAUUTTIIOONN——SSHHOOCCKK HHAAZZAARRDD:: Indicates a risk of electrical shock.
CCAAUUTTIIOONN——HHOOTT SSUURRFFAACCEE:: Indicates a risk of b rn if to ched.
CCAAUUTTIIOONN——TTIIPPPPIINNGG HHAAZZAARRDD:: Indicates a cr sh hazard.
CCAAUUTTIIOONN——PPIINNCCHH HHAAZZAARRDD:: Indicates a risk of being ca ght between moving parts.
CCAAUUTTIIOONN——MMOOVVIINNGG PPAARRTTSS:: Indicates a risk of laceration or abrasion inj ries from rotating parts.
PRODUCT STATEMENTS
CCAAUUTTIIOONN——PPOOTTEENNTTIIAALL IINNJJUURRYY:: To avoid the risk of fire or electrical shock, connect the power cord
to an appropriately rated and properly gro nded electrical o tlet that is near the prod ct and easily
accessible.
CCAAUUTTIIOONN——PPOOTTEENNTTIIAALL IINNJJUURRYY:: To avoid the risk of fire or electrical shock, se only the power cord
provided with this prod ct or the a thorized replacement from the man fact rer.
CCAAUUTTIIOONN——PPOOTTEENNTTIIAALL IINNJJUURRYY:: Do not se this prod ct with extension cords, m ltio tlet power
strips, m ltio tlet extenders, or UPS devices. The power capacity of these types of accessories can be
easily overloaded by a laser printer and may res lt in a risk of fire, property damage, or poor printer
performance.
CCAAUUTTIIOONN——PPOOTTEENNTTIIAALL IINNJJUURRYY:: Do not se this prod ct with an inline s rge protector. The se of a
s rge protection device may res lt in a risk of fire, property damage, or poor printer performance.

Safety
CCAAUUTTIIOONN——PPOOTTEENNTTIIAALL IINNJJUURRYY:: To red ce the risk of fire, se only a 26 AWG or larger
telecomm nications (RJ-11) cord when connecting this prod ct to the p blic switched telephone network.
For sers in A stralia, the cord m st be approved by the A stralian Comm nications and Media A thority.
CCAAUUTTIIOONN——SSHHOOCCKK HHAAZZAARRDD:: To avoid the risk of electrical shock, do not place or se this prod ct
near water or wet locations.
CCAAUUTTIIOONN——SSHHOOCCKK HHAAZZAARRDD:: To avoid the risk of electrical shock, do not set p this prod ct or make
any electrical or cabling connections, s ch as the power cord, fax feat re, or telephone, d ring a lightning
storm.
CCAAUUTTIIOONN——PPOOTTEENNTTIIAALL IINNJJUURRYY:: Do not c t, twist, bind, cr sh, or place heavy objects on the power
cord. Do not s bject the power cord to abrasion or stress. Do not pinch the power cord between objects
s ch as f rnit re and walls. If any of these things happen, a risk of fire or electrical shock res lts. Inspect
the power cord reg larly for signs of s ch problems. Remove the power cord from the electrical o tlet
before inspecting it.
CCAAUUTTIIOONN——SSHHOOCCKK HHAAZZAARRDD:: To avoid the risk of electrical shock, make s re that all external
connections, s ch as Ethernet and telephone system connections, are properly installed in their marked
pl g-in ports.
CCAAUUTTIIOONN——SSHHOOCCKK HHAAZZAARRDD:: To avoid the risk of electrical shock, if yo are accessing the controller
board or installing optional hardware or memory devices sometime after setting p the printer, then t rn
the printer off, and npl g the power cord from the electrical o tlet before contin ing. If yo have any
other devices attached to the printer, then t rn them off as well, and npl g any cables going into the
printer.
CCAAUUTTIIOONN——SSHHOOCCKK HHAAZZAARRDD:: To avoid the risk of electrical shock when cleaning the exterior of the
printer, npl g the power cord from the electrical o tlet and disconnect all cables from the printer before
proceeding.
CCAAUUTTIIOONN——SSHHOOCCKK HHAAZZAARRDD:: To avoid the risk of electrical shock, do not se the fax feat re d ring a
lightning storm.
CCAAUUTTIIOONN——PPOOTTEENNTTIIAALL IINNJJUURRYY:: If the printer weight is greater than 20 kg. (44 lb.), then it may
req ire two or more people to lift it safely.

Safety
CCAAUUTTIIOONN——PPOOTTEENNTTIIAALL IINNJJUURRYY:: When moving the printer, follow these g idelines to avoid personal
inj ry or printer damage:
• Make s re that all doors and trays are closed.
• T rn off the printer, and then npl g the power cord from the electrical o tlet.
• Disconnect all cords and cables from the printer.
• If the printer has separate floor-standing optional trays or o tp t options attached to it, then
disconnect them before moving the printer.
• If the printer has a caster base, then caref lly roll it to the new location. Use ca tion when passing
over thresholds and breaks in flooring.
• If the printer does not have a caster base b t is config red with optional trays or o tp t options, then
remove the o tp t options and lift the printer off the trays. Do not try to lift the printer and any
options at the same time.
• Always se the handholds on the printer to lift it.
• Any cart sed to move the printer m st have a s rface able to s pport the f ll footprint of the printer.
• Any cart sed to move the hardware options m st have a s rface able to s pport the dimensions of
the options.
• Keep the printer in an pright position.
• Avoid severe jarring movements.
• Make s re that yo r fingers are not nder the printer when yo set it down.
• Make s re that there is adeq ate clearance aro nd the printer.
CCAAUUTTIIOONN——TTIIPPPPIINNGG HHAAZZAARRDD:: Installing one or more options on yo r printer or MFP may req ire a
caster base, f rnit re, or other feat re to prevent instability ca sing possible inj ry. For more information
on s pported config rations, contact the place where yo p rchased the printer.
CCAAUUTTIIOONN——TTIIPPPPIINNGG HHAAZZAARRDD:: To red ce the risk of eq ipment instability, load each tray separately.
Keep all other trays closed ntil needed.
CCAAUUTTIIOONN——HHOOTT SSUURRFFAACCEE:: The inside of the printer might be hot. To red ce the risk of inj ry from a
hot component, allow the s rface to cool before to ching it.
CCAAUUTTIIOONN——PPIINNCCHH HHAAZZAARRDD:: To avoid the risk of a pinch inj ry, se ca tion in areas marked with this
label. Pinch inj ries may occ r aro nd moving parts, s ch as gears, doors, trays, and covers.
CCAAUUTTIIOONN——PPOOTTEENNTTIIAALL IINNJJUURRYY:: This prod ct ses a laser. Use of controls or adj stments or
