Precautions
Toensurethescannerreachesitsbestperformance,thefollowingpointsneedtobe
noticedwhenmountingthescanner:
a. Donotplacethescannerunderdirectsunlightoranyotherbrightlightsource
illuminating.
b. Whenplacingthebarcodelabel,onemustbecarefulnottoovertilt,skewand/or
pitchthebarcode.
c. Donotplacethedeviceatspeculareflectionposition.TheLEDlightofthescanner
reflectsdirectlybackonthescannerifitisplacedatspeculareflectionposition.
AstothenatureofCMOSsensor,itwillnotbeabletoreadanybarcodes.
d. Thebarcodelabelmustbeplacedwithintheeffectivedepthoffield(D.O.F.)since
itistheeffectivereadingdistanceforthebarcodefromthescanner.Forthebest
placingposition,pleaserefertotheDecodeDepthofFielddrawing.
MaintainingtheScanner
Handlingwithcare!Thescanenginesareelectrostaticsensitivedevice;donothandle
withbarehands.Storetheenginesawayfromdustandhumidityplaces.

Differentqualityanddensityofabarcodecouldeffectitsdecodedepth
offield.Usuallywhenabarcodehaspoorprintingqualityorhigh
density,thedepthoffieldwouldbeshorter.Itishighlysuggestednot
placethebarcodelabelattheextremesofdepthoffieldasitisoften
easytomoveoutfromthereadingrange.

Inthissection,wewillintroducewaystomountthescanengineintoyourdesign.
Atthebackofscanengine,therearetwoscrewholesreservedformounting,thescan
enginecanbefixedinanypositionandanyanglewithoutanydegradationin
performance.Andtoensurethescannerreachesitsbestperformance,thefollowing
pointsneedtobefollowedwhenmountingthescanner:
Toavoiddirectsunlightoranyotherbrightlightsourceilluminating.
Whenplacingthebarcodelabel,onemustbecarefulnottoovertilt,skewand/orpitch
thebarcode.
Toavoidputtingthescannerinspeculareflectionposition,theCMOSsensorwillnot
sensethereadingofanybarcodesiftheLEDlightreflectsstraightback.
Thebarcodemustbeplacedwithintheeffectivedepthoffield(D.O.F.)area,the
effectivereadingdistanceforthebarcodefromthescanner.Itstheoryislikeacamera,if
theobjectisplacedwithinthefocalrange,andtheimageappearsclearly.Butifthe
objectisoutsidethefocalrange,theimagethenisblurred.Anddifferentqualityand
densityofbarcodescouldaffectitsD.O.F;usuallyalowerpieceorhighdensityof
barcode,itsdepthoffieldisshorter.Itissuggestedtoavoidusingdepthoffield
extremesrange,barcodeiseasilymovedawayfromthereadingrange.
Forbestplacingposition,pleaserefertotheDecodeDepthofFielddrawing.
ThermalConsiderations
ElectroniccomponentsintheZ‐5112willgenerateheatduringthecourseoftheir
operation.OperatingtheZ‐5112incontinuousmodeforanextendedperiodmaycause
temperaturestoriseonAPUanddecoderchip.Overheatingcandegradeimagequality
andaffectscanningperformance.Giventhat,thefollowingprecautionsshouldbetaken
intoconsiderationwhenintegratingtheZ‐5112.
1. Reservesufficientspaceforgoodaircirculationinthedesign.
2. AvoidwrappingtheZ‐5112withthermalinsulationmaterialssuchasrubber.
3. Increasethethermalstrategytoreducethescanningenginecontinuousoperating
temperature.
