1. Introduction to the B-6010/B-6020
The ZyXEL B-6010 (refer as AP)/B-6020 (refer as AC) is a Wireless Bridge/Router for Inter-building Point to Point
Ethernet connection. By supporting IPSec VPN (Virtual Private Network) with 3DES engine, B-6010/B-6020 is
particularly suited for most sensitive data transmission. System privacy is also inherent through the MAC & 802.1x
based mutual authentication functionality. Outdoor-mounted design with weatherproof enclosure minimize the cable
loss connecting to antenna and thus has outstanding performance in the longer communication distance. The power
over Ethernet (POE) technology supplies the power and Ethernet connectivity concurrently via a single Ethernet
cable and makes quick outdoor installation. Except for point to point connection, the wireless router feature can also
be configured as point to two points architecture for multi-site connections as well as wireless relay function and
hence assists to overcome the non-line of sight (NLOS) problem in the real environment.
2. Hardware Description
The B-6010/B-6020 model is composed of outdoor and indoor unit connected via a single Ethernet cable.

2.2. The outdoor unit
The outdoor unit is a radio transceiver equipped with a robust IP66 approved enclosure and features a N-type
connector for external antenna connection. A special weather proven connector is used for connecting the single
UTP cable to the indoor unit and special weatherproof RS232 connector is built for the connection of laptop or a
special designed antenna alignment kit to align the directional antenna installation.

2.3. The Indoor Unit
The indoor unit is a network/power injector which is used to combine the signal stream and DC power into single
category 5 cable to connect outdoor unit. It has three ports.

3. Configure B-6010/B-6020
This guide shows you the default factory configuration of B-6010/B-6020 and how to configure the B-6010/B-6020
for appropriate operation at the first time. See the User’s Guide for configuration details.
3.1. Default Configuration
The B-6010/B-6020 is shipped with following factory default configurations:

3.1.1 Configuration Requirements
In order to configure the B-6010/B-6020 by using the console port, a computer is needed and installed with
communications software configured to the following parameters:

After the B-6010/B-6020 is properly set up, you can make future changes to the configuration through telnet
connections.
3.2. AC Configuration
The AP supports AC’s MAC access control. Prior to complete communication between AP and AC, you have to set
AC’s MAC address for B-6010/B-6020 AP.
1. In AP’s SMT Main Menu, select 6. Network Setup.
2. In AP’s Menu 6 Router Mode Network Setup, set AC1 Operation mode=Enabled, MAC
Address=00:02:CF:13:46:79 (the AC’s MAC Address).

NOTE: The MAC address of AC can be found on a bar code sticker at the left side of B-6010/B-6020.
4. Hardware Installation
4.1. B-6010/B-6020 Physical Connection
The physical cable connection of the B-6010/B-6020 is shown on the following pictures.

4.2. The outdoor unit installation
The installation procedure of B-6010/B-6020 is described below:
1. Choose an appropriate place for the installation. The chosen site should have a clear light-of-sight path.
2. Prepare a mast with 40mm~50mm diameter.
3. Assemble mast mount bracket as shown in Figure 4-3.

4. Attach mounting bracket and the grounding wire to the back of the outdoor unit as shown in Figure 4-4.

5. Fasten the mounting bracket assembly to Install outdoor unit on the mast. The height of top of the mast can’t
exceed the top of outdoor unit to reduce interference to the antenna.

6. Install the antenna to the N-male connector port labeled on the top of outdoor unit. For the omni-directional
antenna, you can attach the antenna to the N-male connector directly or use the attached HDF 400 RF coaxial
cable to connect the antenna and antenna connector on the top panel of outdoor unit. For the directional antenna
installation, use the HDF 400 RF coaxial cable. The polarization of directional antenna for both AP and AC

should be the same, otherwise, the installation will fail to communicate. At the same time, you have to position
the directional antenna to each other for both sides mutually.
Notice: The antenna must be installed by the professional installer to comply with the safety, electrical and
radiation standards. The installer should properly configure the output power of transceiver in
according to related country regulation requirement and per antenna type.

7. Attach the end of 8-pin male connector of category 5 cable to the 8-pin female connector port labeled on
the bottom of outdoor unit.

Well done! The outdoor unit installation is completed.
4.3. Indoor Unit Installation
The indoor unit installation is to be proceeded after the outdoor installation.
1. Choose an appropriate place for the network/power injector. You might hang it on the wall or just place it on the
desk.
2. Connect the other end of category 5 cable to the RJ-45 connector labeled TO RADIO of network/power
injector.
3. Connect one end of Ethernet cable to the RJ-45 port labeled TO LAN on the network/power injector. Connect
the other end of Ethernet cable to the workstation directly or through a switch/hub/router (iAIR M9000 only).
4. Connect the power jack of switching power adaptor to the power port labeled POWER on the network/power
injector.

4.4. Initializing the B-6010/B-6020
1. When plugging the switching power adapter into the 110V/220V wall outlet, the LED named PWR on the
network/power injector will light on.
2. When the power and signal connection to outdoor unit are complete, the ACT LED of the network/power
injector will light on.
4.5. Antenna Alignment
You had better align the directional antenna each other to maximize the signal quality for B-6010/B-6020 system.
To do the antenna alignment, you can choose optional AK-100 which will show you the signal strength and link
quality on its panel or the laptop PC which show the signal strength and link quality on its SMT 24.1 to refer to the
alignment. To do the alignment, follow the steps as below:
Notice: The antenna alignment is only applicable for the access client (AC)
1. Open the cover of the console port labeled on the bottom of the access client (AC) and well reserve the
cover.
2. Connect the RS-232 cable to this console port.
3. Connect the other end of the RS-232 cable to the antenna alignment kit AK-100 or the laptop.
Note: The PWR led will be ON and the ACT led will flash periodically when connect the AK-100 to the
B-6010/B-6020.
4. Adjust the horizontal angle of directional antenna first to get the maximum reading in the LEVEL and SNR
display of AK-100, or the STRENGTH and QUALITY in the SMT 24.1., both show the percentage of signal
strength and link quality of the radio link.
5. Adjust the vertical angle of directional antenna to get the maximum reading in the LEVEL and SNR display or
the STRENGTH and QUALITY.
6. Repeat step 4 and step 5 until achieving the best reading index, then remove the antenna alignment kit or laptop
and the RS-232 cable from B-6010/B-6020.
Note: The AK-100 will beep more rapidly when getting better link quality and continuous beep after
performing the best link quality during the antenna alignment procedure.
7. Put the console port cover back to the console port.
