About This Manual
Getting Started covers the basic information you need to
install and configure your Prestige 128 for connection to
the Internet through an ISP (Internet Service Provider).
For more details on this and other applications, please
refer to the Prestige 128 User’s Manual.
Before You Start
To install your Prestige, you will need the following items
in addition to the contents of this package:
• An ISDN telephone line installed by your telephone
company.
• An Ethernet connection to your computer.
• A computer equipped with communications software.
The communications software must be configured to the
following parameters:
• VT100 terminal emulation
• 9600 Baud rate
• None parity, 8 Data bits, 1 Stop bit
Please make sure you have all of these components before
you attempt to install your Prestige.
Installing Your Prestige
Figure 1 shows a diagram of the rear panel of the Prestige
128. To help avoid problems, refer to this diagram when
you are connecting the cables to your unit.
Warning: If the wrong cable is used, your Prestige may be
damaged.
Connecting the RS-232 Cable
One white RS-232 cable is included with your router. To
connect the RS-232 cable, first click open the door on the
right panel to reveal the port. Slide one end of the RS-232
cable (looks like a telephone jack) into the port until the
retainer clicks into place. Connect the other end of the
RS-232 cable to the serial port (COM1, COM2, or any
other COM port) of your computer.

Connecting ISDN Line
Plug one end of yourblackISDN phone line into the
socket on the rear panel of the Prestige labeled ‘ISDN’
and the other end into the ISDN wall jack.
Connecting Ethernet Cable
The Prestige supports two types of Ethernet connections.
The connection procedure differs for each one; follow the
one that is appropriate for your installation.
UTP
The UTP port is used to connect to a 10BaseT network.
10BaseT networks use Unshielded Twisted Pair (UTP)
cable and RJ-45 connectors that look like a big telephone
plug with 8 pins. Two types of gray Ethernet cables come
with the package:
• Straight through cable (P/N 57-110-004290):
Connects your Prestige to a 10BaseT hub.
• Crossover cable (P/N 57-011-208400): Connects
your Prestige to your computer directlywithout a
hub.
Warning: If this cable is used to connect ISDN, it may
damage your Prestige.
AUI
The AUI port (the connector with 15 pins) is used to
connect the Prestige to a 10Base5 (thicknet) network.
If you have a 10Base2 network using BNC connectors and
thin coaxial cables, you will need a transceiver between
the AUI port and the 10Base2 cabling.

Connecting the Power Adapter
Plug a 16VAC 1200mA power adapter into the outlet on
the rear panel of the Prestige labeled ‘POWER’.
Configuring Your Prestige
After you have successfully connected your Prestige, you
can use your computer’s communications software to
configure your unit. Simply select the COM port to which
your Prestige is connected and turn the power on. After
the initial data, you will be asked to enter the password.
Enter the default passwordof “1234” and press enter.
This will automatically send you to the SMT (System
Management Terminal) which will be used to configure
the Prestige.
Fill in the fields as described in the following sections. It
is important to note that this set of configuration
instructions provides the minimum fields you need to set
in order to connect to the Internet.

Subscribing to a Class C or Single
User Internet Account
Menu 1 - General Setup
1. System Name- give Prestige 128 a name
2. Route IP- select ‘Yes’
Please see Chapter 3 in the User’s Manual for more
detailed information.
Menu 2 - ISDN Setup
Note: The 128 uses an S/T interface while the 128U uses
a U interface.
Gather the following information from your ISDN service
provider (telephone company).
North American ISDN Setup
1. Switch Type- Select your ISDN switch type.
2. B Channel Usage- In most cases, this will be
‘Switch/Switch’. If you are only using one B channel
(e.g., your Prestige is sharing the ISDN BRI line with
another device on the S/T bus). Then select
‘Switch/Unused’.
3. 1st Phone #- Enter the 1st phone number given to
you by your telephone company.
4. SPID #-Enter the 1st Service Profile Identifier if
your telephone company provides this number.
5. 2nd Phone #- Enter the 2nd phone number if your
telephone company provides this number.
6. SPID #-Enter the 2nd Service Profile Identifier if
your telephone company provides this number.
DSS1 & 1TR6 ISDN Setup
1. Switch Type -This field is fixed as the DSS1 or
1TR6.
2. B Channel Usage- This field is fixed as the
Switch/Switch.

3. ISDN Data &Subaddress -Enter the telephone
number andsubaddress assigned to the ISDN data
call for the Prestige.
4. A/B Adapter 1 &Subaddress -Enter the telephone
number andsubaddress assigned totheA/B Adapter 1
(POTS port 1) call for the Prestige.
5. A/B Adapter 2 &Subaddress -Enter the telephone
number andsubaddress assigned to the A/B Adapter
2 (POTS port 2) call for the Prestige.
6. Dial Prefix to Access Outside Line -Enter the
prefix number if the Prestige is connected to an ISDN
PABX.
7. PABX Number (with S/T Bus Number)- Enter the
S/T bus number if the Prestige is connected to an
ISDN PABX.

detailed information and other capabilities such as the
PHONE ports (known as POTS ports in North America or
A/B Adapters in Europe).
Menu 3.1 - TCP/IP Ethernet Setup
Get the information for this menu from your network
administrator.
1. IP Address- Enter the IP address of the Prestige
Please see Chapter 3 in the User’s Manual for more
detailed information.
Menu 4 - Internet Access Setup
Get the information for this menu from your Internet
Service Provider (“ISP”).
1. ISP's Name- Enter the name of the Internet Service
Provider.
2. ISP's IPAddr- Leave this field blank if you don’t
know the IP address of yourISP’s gateway.
Otherwise, enter it here.
3. Pri(mary) Phone #- Enter the ISP's primary phone
number given to you by your Internet Service
Provider.

4. My Login- Enter the user ID given to you by your
Internet Service Provider.
5. My Password- Enter the password given to you by
your Internet Service Provider.
6. Single User Account -Set this field set to ‘Yes’ to
enable the Single User Account feature. Otherwise,
set this field to ‘No’. Please see Chapter 4 for a more
detailed discussion of Single User Account.
7. Single User Account: IPAddr(mandatory if Single
User Account is set to ‘Yes’) - If your ISP assigns a
dynamic IP address to you, enter 0.0.0.0. Otherwise,
enter the IP address assigned to you by your ISP.
8. Single User Account: Server IPAddr. If you have a
server on the LAN, e.g., a web server, that provides
services to the outside world, enter the IP address of
that station in this field.
9. Telco Options: Transfer Rate -This field (which
only applies to outgoing calls) controls the rate at
which the data is transferred between your Prestige
and the Internet.
After you enter the above information, you can perform a
test to test the Internet connection.

the PHONE port, or using Prestige as an IPX router,
please see Prestige User’s Manual.
