Quick Start Guide
3M™ Half Facepiece Reusable Respirators 6100 (Sm)/6200 (Med)/6300 (Lg) and particulate lter
assembly including: 3M™N95 Particulate Filter 5N11, 3M™Filter Retainer 501 and
3M™Filter Adapter 603. Optional 3M™ Exhalation Valve Filter 604.
Notes:
• Before using these respirator systems, all users must read and understand the product User Instructions.
• Do not use with beards or other facial hair or other conditions that prevent a good seal between the face and
the faceseal of the respirator.
• Perform hand hygiene and use other applicable PPE as determined by your facility and/or infection control
policy.
Step 1: Inspection
Inspect all components according to the product User Instructions prior to each use. Check for cracks,
tears, holes, deformation or missing components.
Step 2: Filter assembly
1. Place the lter pad in the
lter retainer (501) with
the lter print facing up.
2. Snap the lter
adapter (603) into the
lter retainer (501).
3. Ensure the lter seal is free from creases and gaps and
print is oriented correctly.

1. Ensure the valve
cover of the 6000
Series facepiece is
clean, uncontaminat-
ed and undamaged.
The valve cover is
on the front of the
respirator and has a
large 3M logo. There
are four breathing
slots surrounding the
logo.
2. Align the connector
tabs and hooks on the
back of the EVF with
the breathing slots of
the valve cover.
Tip: Installing the
EVF with either hook
at the top position
may help with proper
alignment of the EVF.
3. Press the EVF
onto the valve
cover. The EVF
should sit evenly on
the valve
cover.
4. If the EVF is not
seated evenly on
the valve cover, as
shown above, in
Fig. 4, repeat steps
2 & 3.
5. Slowly rotate the
EVF clockwise until
rotation stops. Pull
outward lightly on
the EVF to conrm
a complete
connection.

1. Place the respirator over
your mouth and nose
and nose and pull head
harness over the crown
of head.
2. Connect the bottom
straps at the back of the
neck.
3. Adjust top straps by pull-
ing on ends of straps.
4. Adjust bottom straps by
pulling on ends of straps.
Adjust the straps so the respirator is comfortable and snug, but do not overtighten.
Note: Decrease strap tension by pushing out on back side of buckles.
Note: Use of the EVF does not change donning steps.

mark in order to properly
align lters.
2. Rotate lter assembly
¼ turn clockwise until it is
rmly seated. Repeat steps
1-2 for second lter.

Note: Rotate lters counterclock-
wise to remove.
Step 6: Positive Pressure User Seal Check
Place the palm of your hand over the exhalation valve cover (if using the EVF place
the palm of your hand over the EVF opening) and exhale gently. If facepiece bulges
slightly and no air leaks are detected between your face and the facepiece, a proper
seal has been obtained. If faceseal air leakage is detected, reposition respirator on
your face and/or readjust tension of the elastic straps to eliminate leakage. If you
cannot achieve a proper seal, DO NOT enter contaminated area.

Notice: These respirators do not have the properties required of a surgical respirator, and so would not be appropriate for use in a surgical setting.
