Improper use of this equipment may result in personal injury or death. Improper use
includes, but is not limited to, use without adequate training, disregard of the warnings
and instructions contained herein, and failure to inspect and maintain this Respiratory
Protective Equipment. Read and understand all instructions before attempting to operate
or service this equipment.
This equipment is intended to be used only in conjunction with an organised Respiratory
Protection program.
Before using this equipment, read the contents of EN529:2005 and familiarise yourself
with the requirements for Respiratory Protective Equipment and their potential effects
on the wearer.
PAPR system users must be familiar with workplace hazards prior to using the equipment
and must be fully trained in the use of the Duraflow PAPR.
In the ‘power off’ state, there is little or no respiratory protection. This is regarded as an
abnormal condition. In the ‘power off’ state, a rapid build-up of carbon dioxide and a
depletion of oxygen within the hood or helmet may occur.
Scott Safety PAPRs must be used with a Scott Safety headtop, unless otherwise directed.
Read this manual, the headtop manual and Scott Safety Filter manuals, prior to using this
equipment.
The PAPR must be fitted with the appropriate and correct range of filters for the workplace
hazard.
This product must only be used with filters manufactured by Scott Safety. The use of any
other filters will negate the approval and will be likely to reduce the level of protection
provided.
Do not confuse EN12941 and EN12942 filter markings with filter markings relating to other
EN standards.
Do not use a PAPR in confined spaces, oxygen deficient atmospheres (<19%), oxygen
enriched atmospheres (>23%), or where there is an immediate danger to life or health.
Local regulations may apply.
Do not use if the ambient temperature is outside of the range -10°C to +50°C. Humidity
levels up to 95% RH do not present any operational problems.
Do not use if the PAPR is damaged. Inspect the headtop and airhose each time before use
to ensure that there is no damage of any kind that may cause leakage or reduced levels
of protection. A monthly inspection of the PAPR is a mandatory requirement in the UK
under COSHH regulations and inspection on a monthly basis is strongly recommended for
all other countries.
Protection will only be obtained if the equipment is fitted correctly.
Protection levels may be reduced if wind speed exceeds two meters per second.
In the unlikely event that the PAPR fails while in a hazardous area, there may be an increase
of carbon dioxide and contamination within the headtop. Leave the area immediately.
At very high work-rates, pressure in the PAPR may become negative at peak inhalation
flow.
Do not fit the filters directly to the headtop.

Duraflow
INTRODUCTION
Duraflow is an intelligent, powered air purifying respirator (PAPR) that works with
both combination and particulate Scott Safety filters. With the correct filters,
Duraflow protects against the inhalation of harmful dusts, mists, fumes, vapours, or
gases, especially where protection is required for long periods, and is of particular
benefit in hot or humid environments. The powered flow of air to the headtop
that Duraflow provides is a more comfortable alternative to conventional negative
pressure facemasks.
Duraflow is a durable, impact resistant PAPR, with a shower proof construction that
has LED icons to provide information on the operational status of the PAPR.
When in use, filtered air from the Duraflow PAPR enters the hose, travels to the
headtop and exits through the face-seal or exhalation valve. Duraflow features
real time flow control, measuring true airflow through the PAPR, and insuring a
consistent airflow.
To form a complete PAPR system, combine Duraflow with the appropriate filters,
hose, battery pack, and headtop. Before you select a headtop and filters, establish
the intended application, the hazards that are likely to be present, and any personal
preference.
You must undertake a comprehensive risk assessment and consider additional
protection, other than respiratory, that you may require. For example, eye and
hearing protection.
Duraflow has two battery pack options: a standard battery and an extended battery.
Duraflow has two filter ports for replaceable filters, both ports must always have
matching filters mounted to ensure protection.
Duraflow has a fully adjustable waist belt and is compatible with many belts and
harnesses.
Duraflow is approved to EN12941:1998+A2:2008.
Full details of suitable filters and all Duraflow PAPR systems are available from
Customer Services at Scott Safety.

Limitations to use:
This product must only be used by trained persons that are fully aware of prevailing
workplace hazards.
Do not use the Duraflow PAPR with hazards that pose a risk of immediate danger or
health (IDLH).
Wind speeds in excess of two metres per second may affect the level of respiratory
protection that is expected from the equipment.

BATTERY PACK AND CHARGER WARNINGS
Seek medical advice immediately if a cell or battery is swallowed.
In the event of a battery leaking, do not allow liquid to come into contact with
the skin or eyes. If contact has been made, use water to wash the affected area
thoroughly and seek medical advice.
Use only Scott Safety approved batteries for the Duraflow PAPR.
Use the battery only for the application for which it is intended.
Do not remove the battery from the original packaging until you intend to use it.
Do not short-circuit batteries.
Do not dismantle, open, or shred batteries.
Do not subject batteries to mechanical shock.
Do not expose batteries to heat or fire. Avoid storage in direct sunlight.
Never recharge in a potentially explosive environment.
Storing a battery that has depleted can damage the battery.
Do not charge the battery with any other charger except that which is specifically
provided for use with the equipment.
Charge the battery only within the temperature range of O°C to 40°C.
Do not store batteries haphazardly where they may short-circuit each other or be
short-circuited by conductive materials.
The charger is suitable only for indoor use.
Use only an approved power supply
Do not use any charger other than the charger that is provided.
Do not attempt to charge non-rechargable batteries.
Do not leave a battery on prolonged charge when not in use.
This information also relates to any secondary battery that you may use.

BATTERY INFORMATION
Retain the original product literature for future reference.
Duraflow uses high energy density li-ion battery. Both standard and extended
versions of the battery are available.
Charge the battery fully before use.
Typical estimated life of a Duraflow Lithium-ion battery is 2-3 years or 300 to 500
charge cycles, whichever occurs first. The battery must be replaced at the end of
this period.
If the battery becomes dirty, wipe the terminals with a clean dry cloth.
BATTERY DURATION INFORMATION
Battery life is dependent on the type of filter and headtop that you select. Use the
following two tables to determine the battery operating times that you can expect.
The following operating times are based on a fresh battery that is fully charged, and
is used in combination with new filters.
The following circumstances may negatively impact the operating times:
• Extremes of age and battery cycle
• The charge status
• Clogged filters
• High workrates
The following table outlines the different battery times for standard and extended
batteries when combined with different headtops and filters.

BATTERY STORAGE
When the battery is not in use, charge the battery until it is full, then store the
battery in a cool place. Ensure that the battery is charged biannually.
Store the battery within the temperature range of -10°C to 50°C. Optimum battery
storage is 20°C.
Keep the batteries and cells clean and dry.
After extended periods of storage, it may be necessary to charge and discharge the
battery several times to obtain maximum performance.
Caution: Storing a battery that has depleted can damage the battery.

PRE-OPERATIONAL CHECKS
Note: The following instructions are for the Duraflow PAPR. Use these instructions
with the Operating and Maintenance Instructions for the headtop, and the filters that
you use in combination with the Duraflow.
FILTER SELECTION
Use filters that are appropriate for the application, selected by a competent person
with a full knowledge of respiratory hazards, and their concentrations in the
workplace. To ensure adequate protection, you must use suitable filters with the
Duraflow PAPR in accordance with local regulations.
Consult the headtop User Instructions for classification of the device.
Contact Customer Services at Scott Safety for more detailed information on
filter selection, appropriate maximum use concentration levels, and relevant local
legislation.

CHARGING THE BATTERY
1. Examine the charger (1) and
underside of the battery (2), and
align the electrical connections. The
lip of the battery fits into the large
slot on the charger.
2. Press the battery into the charger.
3. To remove, press the button to
release (1) and lift (2).

There is one central LED light (1) on the charger interface. Use this table to understand
the LED behaviour.

INSERTING THE BATTERY INTO THE PAPR
1. Inspect both the battery and the PAPR. Note the location of the electrical
connectors.
2. Align the lip of the battery with the large slot on side of the PAPR.
3. Align the electrical connectors, and press and hold the red button on the battery
(1).
4. Press the battery into the PAPR (2), and release the red button. The battery
locks into the PAPR (3).
To remove the battery, press the red button to release, and lift.

ATTACHING FILTERS TO THE PAPR
1. Ensure that a grey gasket is present.
2. Insert the filter.
3. Turn the filter clockwise to tighten. Ensure that the filters are screwed securely
to the unit but do not overtighten.
Turn anticlockwise to unlock.
ATTACHING A HOSE TO THE PAPR
You can use an 800mm/80cm PU fixed, a PU stretch, or an 800mm/80cm EPDM
hose.
1. Inspect the alignment features on the PAPR and the hose connection.
2. Press the hose onto the PAPR and turn clockwise to lock.
Turn anticlockwise to unlock.

ATTACHING THE BELT TO THE PAPR
You can use the Duraflow standard belt, a comfort harness, and a wipe clean harness
with the Duraflow PAPR.
To attach the belt to the PAPR:
• Thread the belt so that the buckles open away from the body.
• Move the PAPR to the middle of the belt, so that you can fasten the buckles in
front, while the PAPR remains at the back of your body.
DONNING
1. Use the belt to strap the Duraflow around your waist.
2. Don the headtop in accordance with the user instructions for that headtop.
3. Lift the hose from your back over your shoulder. Ensure that the hose alignment
aid is in the correct position (1). If you don the PAPR correctly, the alignment aid
points towards the PAPR interface. Ensure that the hose does not become looped
or tangled.

OPERATING THE DURAFLOW PAPR
POWERING ON AND OFF THE PAPR
When the unit is mounted on your waist, you can pull the unit around to your side to
view the display.
Pre-operational checks
Before you power on the PAPR, ensure:
• The battery pack is fitted and secure.
• The approved filters are fitted in place.
• The filters are within service life.
• The headtop hose is connected and locked.
Visually inspect the whole set of equipment including the hose and headtop for
damage and replace any defective parts. Ensure that the area around the filters is
clear to provide airflow through the PAPR system.
Power On
Press and hold the Power button until the beep stops. While you hold the power
button, all the LEDs illuminate.
When the PAPR reaches 160 litres per minute (Lpm), the PAPR sounds three beeps,
and the PAPR is ready to use.
Power Off
Press and hold the Power button until you hear a beep, then release the button. The
beep continues until the PAPR powers off.
DOFFING
CAUTION: Do not remove the headtop until you are in a safe and hazard free zone
1. Once free of any hazard, switch off the PAPR.
2. Remove the headtop in accordance with the Operating and Maintenance
instructions of the headtop.
3. Place the PAPR onto a clean surface.
4. Proceed with after use cleaning and storage.

ALARMS
There are two types of audible alarms: a battery alarm and a flow rate alarm
AUDIBLE ALARMS
The audible alarm travels through the hose and into the headtop area. You can hear
the alarm in the headtop or, if you wear an open headtop, from the hose.
When you hear an audible alarm, you must evacuate the hazardous area immediately
and do not return until the problem is solved.
LOW BATTERY ALARM: LED AND SOUNDER BEHAVIOUR

FLOW RATE ALARM: LED AND SOUNDER BEHAVIOUR
The most common cause of a flow rate alarm is an obstruction in the hose or blocked
particle filters.
When the flow rate of the PAPR drops below 160 Lpm, and the on-board control
mechanism of the Duraflow PAPR cannot correct the problem, an alarm sounds, and
the Warning LED flashes.
When you hear the first alarm evacuate the hazardous area and do not return until
the safety issue is resolved.

Alarm will continue until either:
• You switch off whole unit
• You resolve the airflow issue

MAINTENANCE
Scott Safety certified persons may only perform maintenance on the Duraflow PAPR.
Regular and scheduled maintenance is essential for safe use of the equipment.
As well as the pre-operational and storage checks, check the PAPR on a monthly
basis, and replace any defective parts. A qualified service and maintenance operator
must perform a service on an annual basis. Scott Safety has an approved network of
service centres for this purpose.
Replace filter gaskets on an annual basis or when they become worn or damaged.
Perform a regular monthly maintenance schedule in accordance with the pre-
operational checks that includes a thorough visual inspection of all components.
Perform a thorough inspection of all component parts before and after each use.
INSPECTION DETAILS
Record test and maintenance details on the inspection sheet provided at the back of
this manual.
Information recorded usually includes:
• The name of the person that is responsible for the PAPR.
• The make, model number, or identification mark of the PAPR, and a description of
any distinguishing features.
• The date of inspection or maintenance with the name, signature or unique
identification mark of the examiner.
• The condition of the PAPR, details of any defects found, and any remedial action
taken.

AFTER USE CARE
If the equipment may have become contaminated by hazardous substances during
use, the contaminant must be identified and properly removed or the contaminated
components must be replaced before next use.
Dispose of the contaminated components in accordance with local regulatory
requirements.
Inspect worn, or damaged components and replace where it is necessary.

CLEANING
WARNING:
DO NOT IMMERSE THE PAPR UNLESS THE BATTERY AND
DECONTAMINATION PLUGS ARE FITTED. WATER EXPOSURE TO THE ELECTRICAL
CONTACTS ON THE PAPR AND BATTERY CAN CAUSE AN ELECTRICAL SHORT OR
CORROSION.
Carefully wipe clean the PAPR. You can clean the unit with any of the following
cleaning solutions: soap and water, Tristel plc’s DISTEL™ solution, Ecolab USA Inc.’s
Incidur™ solution and some dioxycyclohexane-based cleaning solutions.
If you submerge the PAPR in cleaning solution, do not remove the battery. Water
exposure to the electrical contacts and internals of the PAPR can cause an electrical
short or corrosion. Filter and hose covers and plugs are available for purchase if you
want to submerge the PAPR. Ensure that these plugs are fitted before you submerge
the PAPR.
The Duraflow PAPR has an IP55 rating for shower resistance and an IP67 rating with
the battery attached, and with filter port and hose port decontamination plugs.
If you clean the PAPR in a shower, keep the filters fitted or connect filter aperture and
hose connector plugs.
Once clean, allow all components to dry naturally.

DISPOSAL
Dispose of the components in accordance with local regulatory requirements.
Dispose of the battery in accordance with WEEE and all applicable regulations.

STORAGE
Ensure that the Duraflow is protected from damage during transport.
When not in use, store the equipment in a clean, dry environment, away from direct
heat sources between -10°C and +50°C, at a humidity of less than 75% Relative
Humidity.
WARRANTY
The Duraflow PAPR carries a warranty of 12 months. This includes parts, labour and
return to site. The warranty period runs from the date of purchase by the end user.
These products are warranted to be free from defects in materials and workmanship
at the time of delivery. Scott Safety will be under no liability for any defect arising
from wilful damage, negligence, abnormal working conditions, failure to follow the
original manufacturer’s instructions, misuse or unauthorised alteration or repair.
Evidence of purchase date will need to be produced for any claims arising during
the warranty period. All warranty claims must be directed through Scott Safety
customer services and in accordance with our sales return procedure.

Der Schutzgrad wird nur dann erreicht, wenn das Gerät korrekt angelegt wird.
Windgeschwindigkeiten von mehr als zwei Metern pro Sekunde können einen verringerten
Schutzgrad bedingen.
Für den unwahrscheinlichen Fall, dass das PAPR-System in einem Gefahrenbereich versagt, kann
es im Kopfteil zu einer erhöhten Ansammlung von Kohlendioxid und Kontaminationsstoffen
kommen. Verlassen Sie den Gefahrenbereich sofort.
Bei sehr hoher Arbeitsbelastung kann bei maximaler Einatemfrequenz innerhalb des PAPR ein
Unterdruck entstehen.
Filter nicht direkt am Kopfteil anbringen.

Duraflow
EINLEITUNG
Duraflow ist ein intelligentes, gebläseunterstütztes luftreinigendes
Atemschutzsystem (Powered Air Purifying Respirator = PAPR), das sowohl mit
Kombi- als auch mit Partikelfiltern Scott Safety eingesetzt werden kann. Mit den
korrekten Filtern ausgestattet schützt Duraflow gegen das Einatmen schädlicher
Stäube, Nebel, Abgase, Dämpfe oder Gase, besonders dort, wo ein Schutz über
längere Zeiträume erforderlich ist und das Gerät ist insbesondere zum Einsatz
in heißen oder feuchten Umgebungen geeignet. Der vom Gebläse des Duraflow
bereitgestellte Luftstrom in das Kopfteil stellt eine bequemere Alternative als
herkömmliche Unterdruck-Gesichtsmasken dar.
Duraflow ist ein robustes, schlagfestes PAPR, das eine spritzwassergeschützte mit
LED-Symbolen aufweist, die Informationen über den Betriebszustand des PAPR
geben.
Bei Gebrauch gelangt die vom Duraflow-PAPR gefilterte Luft in den Schlauch, von
dort in das Kopfteil und tritt durch die Gesichtsmanschette oder das Ausatemventil
aus. Duraflow verfügt über eine Echtzeit-Durchflussregelung, die den echten
Luftstrom durch das PAPR misst und somit einen gleichbleibenden Luftstrom
sicherstellt.
Kombinieren Sie Duraflow mit geeigneten Filtern sowie einem geeigneten Schlauch,
Akku-Pack und Kopfteil, um ein vollständiges PAPR-System zu erhalten. Legen
Sie vor Auswahl von Kopfteil und Filter den beabsichtigten Anwendungszweck,
die erwarteten Gefahren sowie alle persönlichen Präferenzen fest. Sie müssen eine
umfassende Risikoeinschätzung vornehmen und dabei zusätzlichen Schutz außer
dem Atemschutz, den Sie erfordern, berücksichtigen. z.b. Augen- und Gehörschutz.
Duraflow verfügt über zwei Akku-Pack-Optionen: einen Standard-Akku und einen
Hochleistungsakku. Duraflow weist zwei Filteranschlüsse für auswechselbare Filter
auf; beide Anschlüsse müssen stets mit passenden Filtern ausgestattet sein, um den
erforderlichen Schutzgrad sicherzustellen.
Duraflow ist mit einem vollständig verstellbaren Hüftgurt ausgestattet und mit vielen
Gurten und Gurtgeschirren kompatibel.
Duraflow ist gemäß EN12941:1998+A2:2008 zugelassen.
