To the operator
This hand book was elaborated to show all the information and instructions necessary to
obtain the correct use of the tractor during running in, operation and maintenance. Also to
present the basic safety rules and technical information as to the constructive characters of
the equipment.
Before starting the tractor for the first time, carefully read all the instruction contained in this
hand book, principally the safety precautions.
VALTRA DO BRASIL LTDA shall not be held responsible for the disposure of
lubricating oils, cooling liquids and used batteries, the disposure of such shall be
the responsibility of the owner like wise to make to become aquainted with the
prevailing rules and regulations for the preservation of the environment.
Services or work which require manpower and special tools, should be carried out by the
VALTRA dealer who shall make available to the owner specially factory trained technicians
and the necessary equipment to carry out adequate Technical Assistance.
The manufacturer reserves the right to modify, improve any part assembly or sub assembly
at any moment without giving prior notice of doing so, and neither VALTRA TRACTORS or
its DEALERS shall be involved in responsibilities or compromises of any nature of tractors
or equipments purchased previously.
All illustrations contained in this hand book are purely illustrative.
When using your tractor the prevailing rules of the country concerned should be
adhered to even if they are not laid out or described in this HAND BOOK.

Environment Management System
The Waste
One of the major environmental problOne of the major environmental problems today is the waste.
As time goes by, the municipality is facing even more difficulties to give a proper destination to the
waste generated by residences, businesses and industries. Available landfills are becoming

Available landfills are becoming scarce.
You can help reduce the waste issue. The big tip here is that everybody can make a great
difference with their small actions. So, do not waste your time, adopt and disseminate the
following ideas:
Do not throw rubbish on the soil, rivers or lakes. Apply the 3Rs principle in order to administer
the waste generate at home, work or recreation:
• Reduce the volume of generated waste.
• Reuse, that is, give a new useful destination to waste materials before discarding them;
• Recycle the waste: separate the waste for selective collection, which will be forwarded to
be transformed in raw material for other products.

• Blue – paper and cardboard
• Green – glass
• Red – plastic
• Yellow – metal
• Black – wood
• White – medical and health service wastes
• Purple – radioactive wastes
• Brown – organic wastes
• Orange – hazardous wastes
• Gray – general separable, non-recyclable or non-contaminated waste
AR Pollution
The proper tractor maintenance, in addition to contributing to extend to a maximum its useful
life, ensures the fuel consumption reduction and the emissions released to the atmosphere.
Neither leave the tractor ON nor accelerate the engine unnecessarily.
Run with an modified or damaged exhaust system causes a considerable increase in air
pollution, and engine noise level (sound pollution) as well.

Oils and fluids
The products used by the tractor for its operation (engine oil, brake fluid, power steering fluid,
engine coolant etc.) when replaced, should be carefully collected in appropriate containers,
thus preventing environment contamination.
Never discard used oil or fluids directly to the environment, this practice can cause pollution
and serious damage to the environment.
Tractor oils and fluids change should preferably be performed by a Valtra dealer or authorized
networks since most of these establishments keep an appropriate routine for collection,
storage and forwarding the used product to a recycling facility. These products contain
hazardous substances and cannot be discarded on the domestic waste.

Environment Management System
Batteries
When changing the battery return it to your dealer or forward it to a battery recycling facility.
Never discard used batteries on the domestic waste.
Tires
The tire rubber does not decompose with time, reason why used tires should not be
discarded in common waste bins or abandoned to the environment. It is advisable to leave them
at the establishment that changed the tire so that it can provide for tire recycling.
Agriculture practices
Try to adopt proper agriculture practices, seeking to cause minimum aggression to the
Environment.
The use of chemical manure and agrotoxins introduces a large number of products which are
hard to decompose and contaminate the soil and consequently compromise the water status
and human health. Do not allow any loss of these products, always use them in the quantity
specified.
Empty packages, agrotoxin left-over and similar, cannot be discarded on the soil, rivers, lakes
or municipal sewers, check the technical recommendations in the product use directions or
complementary leaflet. By doing this you are contributing to health and environment protection.

Health and Safety Information
Prior to operating the tractor carefully read the safety precautions shown in the operator’s
manual
For information on handling or applying agrotoxins, chemical manure, pesticides or
agrochemical, seek for orientation of a specialized professional, for the specification of the personal
protective equipment – PPE’s appropriate for the activity being performed;
Prior to moving the tractor, make sure that there is no person within close range
Do not remove or interfere with the tractor guards;
Be careful with the tractor rotary parts and implements, such as: drive belts, pulleys among
other parts;
Do not smoke when you are driving the tractor or in areas containing flammable products;
Never use personal ornaments, such as: watches, bracelets, collars, rings among others
Never work wearing long sleeve shirts or blouses, or long hair since these can become a
gripping point;
Always keep you workplace clean and organized giving a proper destination to residues.

This section is a summary of the main safety
measures that should be followed by the operator
while working with the tractor. However, these
safety measures by no means exempt the
operator from knowing and complying with traffic
laws and safety rules applicable to the various
places of work.
A1. Safety Rules
1.
This symbol, used in this handbook
together with certain descriptions and
instructions, aims at calling the attention
to certain points where extra care is
required to prevent body injuries or
tractor damages.
Words such as DANGER, PRECAUTION,
ATTENTION and WARNING will be used in
different warning situations in order to protect
people, the tractor and implements.
DANGER!
Indicates the possibility of extensive damage
imminent danger or high risk.
PRECAUTION!
Indicates situations which require more care;
prevention; danger or damage.
WARNING
Alerts about situations which require care, can
damage the tractor or implement and can also
cause personal injuries.
WARNING
Important notice regarding the correct use of
the tractor, implements or about your personal
protection.
WARNING
Improper operation of this machine may cause
personal injuries, material damages, or death.
Before starting the engine, known and understand
the safety messages contained in the Operator
Manual.
Read the safety decals on the machine. Clear the
people from the area.
Prior to operating the machine, read and practice
the safe use of the tractor commands.
You are responsible for understanding and
following the manufacturer's instruction on the
machine operation and maintenance, in compliance
with the relevant laws and regulations.
2. Brakes
Always check the correct functioning of the brakes
before driving the tractor. Brake pedals should
always be locked together when traveling on roads
or highways. Brakes should be tuned whenever
necessary. In case repairs on brakes are required,
such services should only be provided by VALTRA
dealer technicians. When adding counterweights or
implements to the front of the tractor, the load on
the rear axle is usually reduced. Under these
circumstances, the operator should check that the
rear brakes are functioning correctly.

PRECAUTION!
Never start the engine or leave it running in
closed spaces; the gases released by the
exhaust are hazardous and contain carbon
monoxide.
3. Noise level
Operating this tractor under partial or full load
conditions exposes the operator to a continuous or
intermittent noise level above 85 db (A), measured
according to ABNT-NBR 9999 Standard
procedure.
In accordance with legislation in force NR-15
Annex Nº 1 (Directive nr. 3214 of 6/8/78) the
operator of this tractor should wear adequate
personal protective equipment PPE (ear plugs)
such as ear muffs or ear plugs while working.
4. Children and the tractor
Never allow the presence of children near the
tractor or implement, while the engine is running.
Always leave the implement lowered to ground
level when the tractor is parked.
5. Passengers
No passengers should ride the tractor, unless it is
equipped with an appropriate seat. That means that
carrying passengers on front loaders or platform
steps IS NOT PERMITTED.
6. Maintenance
The operator is responsible for complying with the
maintenance instructions set in this handbook.
Never carry out any kind of maintenance work
unless the engine is turned off and the implement
lowered to ground level..
7. Use of the tractor
Never lend the tractor to people who are not
licensed to drive it. You will be held responsible for
any accidents that might occur.

8. Lights
Always check whether lights and reflectors are clean
and operating correctly. Remember that the front
head lights should be correctly adjusted at all times.
PRECAUTION!
The safety belt should be properly fastened and
adjusted.
DANGER!
Hold the steering wheel firmly until the tractor
stops tumbling and rolling over. When equipped
with a ROPS (Roll Over Protective Structure) and
safety belt.
DANGER!
Do no use the safety belt when the tractor is
equipped with the ROPS (Roll Over Protective
Structure).
9. Working speed
Adapt the tractor speed in accordance with the
surface being worked, as well as visibility conditions
and the load being transported. Avoid abrupt
braking or brisk increases in speed and taking sharp
curves at high speed. Doing so may result in load
overturn or tractor capsizing.
ATTENTION!
The tractor’s maximum speed should never be
altered. The maximum front speed is 30 kph and
reverse 13 kph.
10. Accessories operated by power take off
(PTO)
When coupling equipment operated by PTO, it is
critical that the prescribed safety mechanisms are
used and that they are in perfect working condition.
Serious accidents have occurred as a result of not
using the safety equipment. Follow the instructions
contained on warning stickers applied by the tractor
and/or implement manufacturer.
11. Stabilizers
When pulling implements using the 3-point system,
the side stabilizers should be locked with the
locking pin.

12. Trailers
When uncoupling the trailer from the tractor use
wheel chocks and rest the tow bar on an appropriate
support. The trailer should only be hitched up to the
appropriate tow bar.
Check whether the trailer brakes are working
properly and follow the trailer manufacturer’s
instructions.
Never carry loads which are heavier than the weight
of the tractor itself. In such cases the trailer should
be equipped with its own braking system
When operating on ramps and/or unsmooth ground
always remember that the front of the tractor may
rise thus causing loss of tractor stability, mainly
when carrying heavy equipment or implements. If
necessary use front counter weights to equalize the
tractor.
ATTENTION!
When using a trailer, always check that it is
correctly hitched up.
ATTENTION!
When towing a trailer always use the brake
pedal lock, locking both pedals together. Brakes
should never be used individually to steer the
tractor.
13. Trailer load
When using a trailer the load should be correctly
placed. The load should not hinder the operator’s
view nor cover lights and reflectors. If the load
projects more than one meter beyond the trailer tail
board, then it should be correctly signaled. During
the day signaling should be made by means of a
flag, and at night, by a red light or reflectors.
14. Front loader
When using a front loader, never let anyone came
close to work area, there is risk of tractor capsizing
when the load is lifted. The operator should always
leave the loader lowered at ground level prior to
parking the tractor. The manufacturer’s instructions
should be strictly observed to prevent accidents.

15. Damages
The operator is responsible for any damages that
might occur as a result of incorrect use of the tractor
which might jeopardize the safe use of it.
16. Working
Always check the tractor safety conditions before
traveling on roads or highways. The rear view
mirrors should be correctly adjusted, so as to
provide the correct view angle before moving off
with the tractor.
When towing an implement which has a center of
gravity at a significant distance behind the tractor,
the operator should remember that swaying may
occur on curves.
17. Differential blocking
The differential blocking should only be used when
working on soft or slippery ground. Never maneuver
on hard surfaces with the differential blocking
engaged. The differential block should always be
disengaged when maneuvering.
18. Front counter weights
When traveling on roads or highways, at least 20%
of the tractor’s gross weight should be over the front
axle so as to ensure steering stability. A sufficient
number of front counter weights should be used.
These counter weights should only be mounted in
their designated locations.
19. On slopes
Never drive down slopes with the gear shift lever in
the neutral position nor with the clutch pedal
depressed. Check brakes regularly. Brake pedals
should always be locked together while driving on
roads or highways.
Always reduce gear before driving down a slope.
20. Slopes
Whenever possible, avoid working with the tractor
near ditches, slopes or pits. Reduce speed while
driving around a curve on uneven, slippery or
muddy surfaces.
Keep away from extra steep slopes in order to carry
out safe maneuvering. Never go down a slope with
the selection lever set to neutral position, always
use a lower gear.
Never try to change gears while going down a
slope. Reduce to a lower gear before going up or
down a slope.

21. Implement coupling
Great care should always be taken when coupling
implements. There is risk of accidents if the tractor
or implement moves while being coupled. It is only
secure to couple up the implement when the tractor
hand brake is applied and the wheels are blocked to
avoid any tractor movement.
22. Warning stickers
Do not peel off or cover the warning stickers.
Whenever a sticker is damaged substitute it for a
new one. New warning stickers may be obtained
from your Valtra Dealer.
23. Warning triangle for reduced speed
Whenever traveling on roads or highways, always
keep the warning triangle at the rear of the tractor or
trailer to signal that the tractor is traveling at a
reduced speed.
Also use a rotary or intermittent warning light if
mandatory.
24. Pressão hidráulica
Oil under high pressure can easily penetrate clothes
and skin, which may cause adverse health effects.
Never try to detect leaks in the hydraulic system or
seal them with your finger tip.
25. Roll Over Protective Structure (ROPS)
This is a structure tested by VALTRA to support the
impact caused by the tractor in case of overturning
or capsizing, thus protecting the operator. However,
for this protection to be effective, the use of safety
belt is MANDATORY, as well as the keeping of the
safety structure UNALTERED.
26. Fuel
Diesel fuel is highly flammable and can cause fires
or explosions. Never refuel the tank or carry out
maintenance work close to open flames, welding
equipment or cigarettes
The performance features of VALTRA tractors are
based on diesel fuel as specified, in compliance
with DNC 01/96 technical standards.
The use of diesel fuel other than the one specified
by these standards may result in problems such as:
• loss of engine power;
• reduction of the engine and fuel injection
system life cycles;
• change in fuel consumption;
• increase in emissions;
• difficulty in engine start up.

27. Tow bar
Stability problems may occur if implements or
trailers are hitched up to an incorrect part of the
tractor. Always couple up to the tow bar only. Use
the three point system only for implements which
have been projected for that purpose, never use the
three point system as a tow bar.
28. Power take-off
Keep clear from moving components and parts,
mainly the engine and PTO. When the PTO shaft is
not in use, keep it covered with the shaft guard
properly fastened.
Never carry out maintenance operations or
adjustments with the engine running. Before
coupling and using an implement on the PTO check
that the PTO shaft speed and size are compatible to
those of the implement.
Always centralize the tow bar and lock it into
position when in use.
29. Implements
Always lower the implements to the ground when
the tractor is not in use.
Use the lowering speed most suitable for the tractor
weight.
Check for people and animals present in the area
that could be at risk when lowering the implement.
ATTENTION!
Loose and unsuitable closes may cause
accidents. Do not wear cloths that may be
caught in commands, controls, etc. The use of
Epic’s is also required.
PRECAUTION!
For greater personal safety and to prevent slips
and possible accidents, keep the steps clean
and free from grease, oil, and dirt. When
climbing or leaving the tractor, always do it
from the front of the machine.

30. Maintenance and preservation
Always keep the tractor in good mechanical and
operating conditions. Follow the maintenance
recommendations and never operate the tractor
when a fault is present that might compromise the
safety of the operator and/or the machine. When a
fault is found, take action for immediate repair and if
this is not possible, leave a warning note on the
machine to prevent its operation by other people.
The batteries contain acid and explosive gases. An
explosion can result from sparks, flames, or wrong
cable connections.
Take extreme care when connecting the battery
charger or booster batteries.
The battery negative post ( - ) should always be
connected to the tractor ground.
DANGER!
Never place metallic objects onto the battery, as
this may cause a short circuit and/or explosion
of the battery.
DANGER!
The liquid contained inside the battery is
sulfuric acid.
Take care not to ingest it, spill it on the skin,
eyes or clothes; this will cause serious burns.
31. Direct connection
The engine can be started with the gearbox
engaged, if a direct connection is made at the start
safety switch.
Never do this connection at the starter motor
terminals. Connect the booster battery only if you
have adequate knowledge and training to perform
this operation.
Following, proceed as recommended to start the
engine, after being properly accommodated on the
operator seat.
Any other method may result in uncontrolled
movement of the machine, causing serious
accidents or operator death as well as people in the
area

32. Radiator
The radiator coolant may overflow under high
pressure if the radiator cover is removed in a single
step.
To remove the radiator cover turn it to the first
position, wait until the pressure is relieved and then
remove the radiator cover.
Severe burns may occur if the radiator cover is
quickly removed.
ATTENTION!
The proper handling and destination of
disposable material such as oils, engine coolant,
battery, etc., is the owner’s responsibility in
conformity with the laws in effect.
DANGER!
At temperatures in excess of 300°C, the Viton
seals of the engine produce very highly
corrosive hydrofluoric acid.
Do not touch with the bare hands on Viton seals
that have been submitted to high temperatures;
use rubber or Neoprene gloves to handle them.
Viton seals should never be incinerated.
