Precautions
▪We strongly recommend you to back up your data to another safe media. We are not responsible for data damage or
loss within the built-in HDD.
▪We suggest you unplug the power adaptor when the unit is not used for long periods’
▪MG-45 does not support the DivX, XviD codec when the GMC, or Qpel option is applied during the file encoding process.
▪MG-45 supports only “Pass-Through” for DTS Audio codecs.
▪Do not power off while a file is playing.
▪If the length of USB cable is too long, the MG-45 may not connect correctly (Recommend length is up to 3 meters).
▪If you have a USB 1.1 Host Adapter, the MG-45 will only work at the slower USB1.1 speed.
▪[Very Important]: If anunformatted HDD is inserted into the MG-45, a PC will not detect the HDD. Make sure that the HDD
is formatted. During format ensure "file compression" is switched OFF.
▪Be careful of shock to the Mg-45.If the HDD is damaged by dropping, impacting, shocking, then contact the
manufacturer or the retailer ofthe HDD.
▪We recommend you use the all supplied cables or accessories that are customized for the best performance of the
MG-45. Using other cables or accessories may not allow the MG-45 to perform correctly.
▪[Very Important]:Keep your MG-45 away from water, heavy moisture.If the MG-45 gets wet, unplug it from a PC or Power at
at once. If you use the MG-45 under these conditions, damage to it's hard disk or anelectric shock may result.
▪Do not touch the MG-45 with wet hands. It may cause electric shock.
▪Keep away from heat, and direct sunlight.
▪Keep away from devices that give off strong magnetic signals (Eg Speakers).This may cause data damage or data loss in HDD..
▪Don’t disassemble or modify the MG-45. It may cause damage or data loss.

1. Use as External USB HDD
1.1 Insert Hard Disk
9Use 3.5” SATA or SATA2 Hard Disk designed for aDesktop computer.
②Connect Power and SATA connector to Hard
Disk.
①Unscrew 4 screws and open the side cover
case by pulling in the direction of the arrow.
③Close the side cover case by pulling in the
direction of the arrow.
④Finish assemblyby tightening the 4 screws.

1.2 Format Built-in HDD via USB1.2 Format Built-in HDD via USB
If the built-in HDD is not formatted, PC can not detect the hard disk drive. If so, format the hard disk first referring to theIf the built-in HDD is not formatted, PC can not detect the hard disk drive. If so, format the hard disk first referring to the
following guide. * If the hard disk drive is al ready formatted, see “1.3 Copy Data via USB."
1.2.1 Windows 98SE, ME
1) Install the Windows 98 Driver. Find the driver on
the Windows 98 CD→MediaGate MG-45→English→
Windows 98 Driver Directory. After finishing
installation, connect the MG-45 to a PC via USB cable,
and plug in the power cable of the MG-45.
2) Select [Start→Program→Accessories→MS-
DOS Prompt] on Windows.
3) Type “fdisk” command at Command Prompt
window and press [Enter].
4) Type the “Y” at the “Do you wish to enable large
disk support (Y/N)” message and press [Enter].
5) Select “5. Changecurrent fixed disk drive” and
press [Enter].
6) Type the last Disk number in 0% usage.
7) Select “1. Create DOS partition or Logical DOS
Drive” and press [Enter].

11) Type the capacity or % which you want to use and
press [Enter].
12) "Drive integrity verification"will start again. After that
has finished, press [ESC] key when the “Primary DOS
Partition created, drive letters changed or added”
message displays.
13) Press [ESC] key again - “ Shut down Windows
before restarting” message will be displayed. Press
[ESC] key to finally exit FDISK.
8) Select “ 1. Create Primary DOS Partition” and
press [Enter].
9) Wait until "verifying the drive integrity."has finished
10) After finishing drive integrity verification, type “Y”
at the “Do you wish to use the maximum available size for
a Primary DOS Partition (Y/N)” message.

14) Type “exit” command at “C:\WINDOWS>” and
press [Enter] to return to the Windows screen.
15) Unplug the MG-45 and plug in again. A new volume
will be displayed in [My Computer]. Click the right
mouse button on the new volume and select [Format].
1.2.2 Windows 2000
1) Connect the MG-45 to the PC via the USB cable,
and plug in the MG-45's power cable.
2) Select [Start →Settings →Control Panel →
Administrative Tools →Computer Management
→Disk Management] on Windows.
3) If the [Disk Signature and Upgrade Disk Wizard] is
started automatically, click Next to progress the wizard.
If thewizard does not started, right click the left area of
unallocated drive (See figure 4), and start the wizard.
4) After finishing the [Disk Signature and Upgrade
Disk Wizard], Right-click the Unallocated Drive,and
then, click [Create Partition].

9) Choose FAT32 or NTFS in "File system"to use and
click [Next].
10) After finishing the Wizard setup, formatting will
take place automatically.
5) Click [Next] in the Create Partition Wizard
Window.
6) Check [Primary Partition] and click [Next].
7) Type number that you want to use and click [Next].
8) Assign a drive letter and click [Next].
9FAT 32 system is available in Windows
98SE/ME/2000/XP, but NTFS system is available only
on Windows 2000/XP.
9If you choose FAT32 system on Windows 2000/XP,
one drive letter’s maximum size will be limited to 32GB. If
you want to use one drive letter of 32GB more, you have
to format in Windows 98SE/ME.
9If you want to create two or more partitionswithin one
disk drive, the 1st will be marked “Primary Partition”

1.2.3 Windows XP
1) Connect the MG-45 to a PC via the USB cable, and
plug in the MG-45's power cable.
2) Click [Settings→Control Panel→Administrative
Tools→Computer Management→Disk Management] in
Windows. If you cannot find Administrative Tools in the
Control Panel, click “switch to classic view”in the
left –upper corner on your PC's screen.
3) If the [Disk Signature and Upgrade Disk Wizard]
starts, click [Next] to progress for the wizard.
If this wizard does not start, right click the marked left
area of "unallocated drive"(see fig. 4) and start the
wizard.
4) After finishing the [Disk Signature and Upgrade
Disk Wizard], Right-click the ‘Unallocated’ Drive, and
then, click [Create Partition].
5) Click [Next] at the New Partition Wizard.
6) Check [Primary Partition] and click [Next].
7) Type number that you want to use and click [Next].
8) Assign a drive letter and click [Next].

1.3 Copying Data via USB
It is possible to use as anexternal USB hard disk drive,when you insert a hard disk into your MG-45. You can copy data
from your PC to built-in HDD of MG-45 via USB. It is possible to play media files from the hard disk,and display via a TV set.
* When connecting to a PC via USB, you must also connect the MG-45's power cable.
1.3.1 Windows 98SE
9First, you have to install Windows 98 Driver before connecting PC. Find the driver on the Windows 98 driver CD→MediaGate
MG-45→English→Windows 98 Driver Directory. After finishing installation, connect the MG-45 to a PC via the USB cable,
and plug in the MG-45's power cable.
1) After installing the driver, connect MG-45 and plug in
the power cable. Then, check the driver installation in
Windows [Start→Settings→Control Panel→System
→Device Manager→Hard disk controllers→Hi-
Speed USB-IDE Bridge Controller].
2) Check ‘My Computer’ or ‘Explorer’, there should be
a new volume. You can copy any data to this volume.
3) After copying data, remove the MG-45 by using the
remove icon in Windows right-hand corner. If
you don’t follow this procedure, damage to your MG-45
or data loss may result.
9If a new volume does not appear, check if the HDD
is formatted or not, and the HDD's file system.
Windows 98SE only detects the FAT32 file system.

1.3.2 Windows ME
1)After connecting the MG-45,plug in the power cable,
Windows will install the driver automatically.
Then, check the driver installation at Windows [Start >
Settings > Control Panel > (view all Control Panel
options) > System > Device Manager > Universal
Serial Bus controllers > USB Mass Storage Device].
3)After copying data, remove the MG-45 using the
remove icon in Windows right-hand corner. If
you don’t follow this procedure, data may be lost and
damage to the MG-45 may result.
2) Check ‘My Computer’ or ‘Explorer’, there should be
a new volume. You can now copy data to this volume.
If a new volume has not appeared, check that the HDD
is formatted and partitioned and also check the HDD file
system.

1.3.3 Windows 2000, XP
1) After connecting the MG-45, plug in the power cable.
Windows itself will install the driver automatically.
Then, check the driver installation at Windows [Start >
Settings > Control panel > (switch to classic View on
Windows XP) > system > Hardware > Device
manager > Universal Serial Bus controllers > USB
Mass Storage Device ].
3) After copying data, remove the MG-45 by using the
remove icon in Windows right-hand corner. If
you don’t follow this procedure, data loss my result,
and the MG-45 may be damaged.

1.3.4 Linux
9Support is available for Linux 2.4 and higher.
[Automatic Mount]
After booting, log-in.
Connect MG-45 -> Power On MG-45 -> Check the detection with [fdisk] -> make Mount Pointer (ex. mediatest) at
Folder Mount(/mnt) -> Edit [/etc/fstab] -> add the following;
/dev/sda /mnt/mediatest vfat noauto, user 0 0 (in case of FAT32 HDD)
/dev/sda /mnt/mediatest ntfs noauto, user 0 0 (in case of NTFS HDD)
Log-in again.
9above example “sda” is assumed that the MG-45 will be detected as “sda” on your system. If not, you have to write the drive
name which is detected as “USB Mass Storage”, not “sda”
[Manual Mount]
Connect MG-45 -> Power On MG-45 -> Check the detection with [fdisk] -> make Mount Pointer (ex. mediatest) at

[How to disconnect]
Do [unmount] at Device Control.
1.3.5 Mac
9Support is available on Mac 9.0 and higher.
No need to install the installation driver with Mac OS ver 9.x ,the MG-45 will be detected automatically. If the
MG-45 is detected correctly, an icon appears on screen..
To removing MG-45 safely, drag the icon to the trash and unplug the MG-45.

2. Access To PC via Network
2.1 Connect the LAN Cable
How to connect a computer directly to the MG-45.Connecting via IP Router or Hub
Connect a LAN cable to a LAN port between the MG-45
and the PC. In this case, you usually have to use a
"Crossed LAN" or "twisted Pair" type LAN cable.
Connect a LAN cable to LAN port via a IP
Router or Hub.
[TIP] If the computer’s LAN card is connected a
cable modem,you can fit an additional LAN
card to your PC and connect that additional LAN
card to the MG-45.
In this case, you have to use "Direct"
or "Standard" LAN Cable.
2.2 Setting Network Configuration.
After connecting the LAN cable, you have to set the network configuration of both the Computer and the MG-45.
You need to share a folder on the Windows computer and use same ‘IP Address range’ and the same ‘Subnet Mask ‘ between
the Windows computer and MG-45. For example,
Computer MG-45
IP Address 192.168.1.2 192.168.1.3
Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0 255.255.255.0
*It is possible to assign IP address and the Subnet Mask of the MG-45 as dynamic or static.

2.2.1 Windows 98SE, ME2.2.1 Windows 98SE, ME
1) Select a folder which you want to share. Right-click
on the folder and click ‘sharing’ in the pop-up menu.
3) Once complete the shared folder will be displayed as
the following picture.
2) Check ‘Shared as’ and enter a ‘Share Name’.
For example, “My Movie”
4) Go to [Control panel > Network], and double click on
the ‘TCP/IP->LAN card’ that you want to use on your
computer.
5) Check ‘Specify an IP address’, and enter the ‘IP
address’ & ‘Subnet mask’ that you want to use.
For example,
IP address: 192.168.1.3
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
9In order to see LAN Card name, go to [Control
Panel>System>Device Manager>Network adaptors].
9Make sure to enter a ‘share name’ within 12 characters
maximum in English.
9Its Recommend to check‘Read Only’ at ‘Access Type’
9Do not enter anything in ‘Password’
