IMPORTANT - READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS carefully and
completely before operating your radio and retain this manual for
future reference.
NEVER connect the radio to a power source other than the
supplied battery.This may damage your product.
NEVER operate your radio with the antenna less than 5cm from
exposed parts of the body.
NEVER use the radio in or near a mining facility or other area
which uses remotely triggered explosives or an area labelled
"Blasting Area".
NEVER use or charge your radio in a potentially explosive
atmosphere.
DO NOT place your radio in front of a vehicle airbag.
DO NOT operate your radio on board an aircraft.
DO NOT use your radio with a damaged antenna.
DO NOT attempt to modify your radio in any way.
ALWAYS charge your radio at normal room temperature.
ALWAYS switch off your radio where notices restrict the use of
two-way radio or mobile telephones.
ALWAYS replace the accessory jack cover (if applicable) when the
jack is not in use.
ONLY use TTI approved rechargeable batteries with the supplied
charger.
AVOID exposing your radio to water. It can widthstand spray water
and some rain, but has no higher waterproof class.
AVOID storing or charging your radio in direct sunlight.
AVOID storing or using your radio where temperatures are below -
20ºC or above +60ºC.

3. Powering the Radio
Your Contact 2is powered by three AA batteries (Ni-MH). If left
unused, the batteries will discharge within a few months. If you
have not used your radio for some time, you may need to
recharge your batteries before use.
Battery installation is more convenient when the belt clip is
removed.To do this, release the spring clip and slide the belt clip
downward and away from the radio body.
Installing the Batteries

batteries as
indicated on the
battery housing,
slide cover back
into position until
it 'clicks' into
place.

Battery Low Alert
When the battery icon blinks on the display, the battery level is low and
the batteries should be recharged or replaced. If the batteries are not
charged, an audio tone will then sound to warn the user that the batteries
are almost discharged.
Battery Usage
The time taken to discharge the batteries will depend on how you use the
PMR- radio.The NiMH batteries supplied are powerful for a full day's use
under normal conditions.
Conserving Battery Power
The radio has a built-in power saving circuit which will help you to get the
maximum amount of time between charges. If you need to operate your
PMR radio in situations where yourequire maximum batterylife e.g. at a
remote site where there is no convenient recharging facility nearby) the
following hints can greatly reduce the amount of the power drawn from
the batteries.
Standby Mode
The PMR radio will automatically enter the "Standby" mode when it is
inactive (i.e. not transmitting or receiving signals) While in Standby mode
it will still check for incoming signals but it will draw considerably less
power form the batteries. As soon as a signal is heard or the keys are
pressed the PMR Radio will wake up again. This Standby mode is automatic
and by itself can extend the battery life by many hours.
Using CTCSS
If you are expecting to receive signals on a busy channel, you can program
that channel for CTCSS operation and get the other person to call you
using the same CTCSS tone. Your radio will then remain in Standby and
ignore all other signals until your selected CTCSS tone is received.
Scanning
The PMR radio draws more power from the batteries when scanning than
when monitoring a single channel.This is because it must wake up more

often to monitor each channel for activity. You can lengthen the battery
life by avoiding any unnecessary scanning. In addition, scanning increases
the chance of finding a signal thereby keeping the receiver 'awake' and
the Squelch open more often.
4. Battery Charging
Connect the power adaptor to the mains power supply and connect
the adaptor power plug to the charging cradle.
Disconnect any radio accessories and ensure the radio is switched off.
Insert the radio into the charging cradle until it 'Clicks' .
The charger LED will light red during quick charge. If the charger LED
should not light, re-insert the radio into the charging cradle.
The battery charging time is typically 4 to 5 hours.When the battery is
fully charged the charger LED will turn green.
In 12 V cars you can use the optional DC charge cable Nr. 29251 for
standard charging (10 to12 h) via the MIC / CHG socket.

5. Radio Controls
1. Power On/Off/Volume control
Turn the knob clockwise to switch on and increase the
volume and counter-clockwise to decrease the volume and
switch off the radio.The radio will send a confirmation tone
when it switches on.
2. Push-To-Talk (PTT) button
Press and hold this button to speak (transmit) and release
the button to hear (receive) messages.You can only
communicate with other PMR446 radios when the channel
and privacy code settings are the same as yours.
3. DOWN button
Pressing this button will decrease the channel number. In
some modes this button is used to adjust the function
setting.
4. UP button
Pressing this button will increase the channel number. In
some modes this button is used to adjust the function
setting.
5. Menu (also known as Function or Mode) and Keypad Lock button
Press this button briefly to activate the function mode. Press
the button again (repeatedly) to step through the function
menu. Press and hold this button to activate or de-activate
the Keypad Lock function.
6. Monitor button
Press and hold this button to activate or de-activate the
MONITOR function.
7. Scan/Scan Memory button
Press this button briefly to activate or de-activate the scan
mode. Press and hold this button to memorize the
displayed channel into the scan memory list or erase the
displayed channel from the scan memory list.

The PMR 446 service which this radio uses shares channels on a 'take
turns' basis.This means that other users and groups may be using any
channel and privacy code combination.
To communicate with other PMR446 radios, all units must be switched
to the same channel (8 choices) and privacy code (38 CTCSS and /or 104
DCS choices). If the combination you have chosen is already in use
please make an alternative selection.
