Safety
Read and carefully observe these installation
instructions before installing/operating/
troubleshooting the assembly. The assembly
must be installed, maintained and repaired
exclusively by persons familiar with the
instructions.
Install the assembly only after safety
instructions and this guide have been read
and are completely understood.
Adequate personal protection must be
used to prevent splashing of material on the
skin or in the eyes.
Always disconnect power source (electri-
city, air or hydraulic) from the pump when it
is not being used.
This equipment generates very high
grease pressure. Extreme caution should be
used when operating this equipment as
material leaks from loose or ruptured com-
ponents can inject fluid through the skin and
into the body. If any fluid appears to
penetrate the skin, seek attention from a
doctor immediately.
Do not treat injury as a simple cut. Tell
attending doctor exactly what type of fluid
was injected.
Any other use not in accordance with
instructions will result in loss of claim for
warranty or liability.
• Do not misuse, over-pressurize, modify
parts, use incompatible chemicals, fluids,
or use worn and/or damaged parts.
• Do not exceed the stated maximum wor-
king pressure of the pump or of the lowest
rated component in your system.
• Always read and follow the fluid manu-
facturer’s recommendations regarding
fluid compatibility, and the use of protec-
tive clothing and equipment.
• Failure to comply may result in personal

Description
Mounting
High-capacity reel models 7340 and 7341
are designed for severe environments, such
as a lubrication truck. They can also mount
to a ceiling 1) or wall.

NOTE
The hose guide arms can attach to the
base assembly in five (5) different
positions.
These reels mount as a single unit or in
banks of as many as required
(→fig. 3, page 9 for details).
Operation
Each model reel is spring-powered and sel-
fretracting. When the hose is extended, the
reel can be latched on either of two ratchet
sections per revolution of the sheave. A pull
releases the latch from the ratchet and
allows the hose to retract onto the reel.
Reel models 7340 and 7341
Reel model 7340 contains a high-pressure
swivel assembly. The reel is designed to dis-
pense grease through a 3/8in (19 mm) ID
two-wire braid delivery hose.
A medium-pressure swivel assembly is
included with model 7341. This reel is
designed for 1/2in (12.7 mm) ID hose to
dispense fluid lubricants (such as motor and
gear oil and automatic transmission fluid)
and air.
Delivery hose
Each model reel manages a maximum
length of delivery hose as indicated in
table 1.

Overhaul
Disassembly
NOTE
Prior to performing any maintenance
procedure, the following safety precau-
tions must be observed. Personal injury
may occur.
WARNING
Release all pressure within the system
prior to performing any overhaul
procedure.
• Disconnect the air supply line to the
pump’s motor.
• Into an appropriate container, operate
the control valve to discharge
remaining pressure within the
system.
Read each step of the instructions
carefully. Make sure a proper under-
standing is achieved before proceeding.
NOTE
Make sure all pressure is released within
the system.
NOTE
Refer to fig. IPB1, page 13 for compo-
nent identification on all overhaul
procedures.
Arms and power spring assembly
9 Remove nuts (13) that secure long
arm (34) to bolts (31).
9.1 Remove the arm from the bolts.
10 Remove nuts (1) and screws (5) that
secure short arm (14) to power spring
assembly (12) as required.
10.1 Remove the arm from the power
spring assembly.
11 Remove screws (5) that secure the
power spring assembly to base
assembly (33).
11.1 Remove the power spring
assembly from the base assembly.
NOTE
Prior to disassembly, release tension on
the power spring.
1 Remove the hose stop and the control
valve from the delivery hose.
2 Pull on the delivery hose to unlatch the
reel.
3 Allow the delivery hose to retract onto
the reel.
4 Turn the reel in the same direction until
the power spring bypasses spring
arbor (26).
4.1 A pronounced “click” will sound.
Medium- and high-pressure
swivel assemblies
5 Unscrew swivel assembly (36 or 39)
from shaft (8).
NOTE
The body and stud assemblies for these
swivels cannot be repaired. However,
the sealing and back-up components
are available in a repair kit.
Hose guide assembly
6 Remove nuts (13) that secure post and
shaft assemblies (18) and (19) to hose
guide plate (17).
6.1 Remove each post and shaft assem-
bly from the hose guide plate.
7 Remove roller assemblies (20) and (21)
from each post and shaft assembly as
required.
8 Remove o-rings (22) from each roller
assembly as required.
NOTE
Use an small flat-head screwdriver.
WARNING
Do not attempt to disassemble the
power spring assembly. Personal injury
can occur.
Delivery hose
12 Pull the delivery hose from sheave
assembly (2).
13 Remove wing nuts (9) and washers (10)
that secure u-bolt (11) to the sheave
assembly.
13.1 Remove the u-bolt from the
sheave assembly.
14 Disconnect the delivery hose from 90 °
union (6).
14.1 Remove the delivery hose from
the sheave assembly.
Arbor and bearings
15 Remove retaining ring (16) that secures
arbor (26) to shaft and flange
assembly (3).
15.1 Remove the arbor from the shaft
and flange assembly.
16 Remove square key (4) from the shaft
and flange assembly.
17 Remove retaining ring (16) that secures
shaft (8) to bearing (28).
17.1 Do not remove the shaft at this
time.
18 Remove nuts (1) that secure bearing
housings (27) to the base assembly.
18.1 Remove each set of bearing
housings and bearings from the
base assembly.

Sheave assembly

Base assembly
Pawl and shaft assembly
24 Remove nut (1) that secures spring
post (23) to the base assembly.
24.1 Remove the spring post from the
base assembly.
25 Remove extension spring (24) from pawl
and shaft assembly (25).
25.1 Remove the extension spring from
the spring post.
26 Remove screw (32) that secures the pawl
and shaft assembly to the base
assembly.
26.1 Remove the pawl and shaft
assembly from the base assembly.
27 Remove bolts (31 and 30), and
washers (29) from the base assembly as
required.
Clean and inspect
NOTE
Use the appropriate repair kit for
replacement parts. Make sure all the
components are included in the kit
before discarding used parts.
Clean all metal parts in a modified petrole-
um-based solvent. The solvent should be
environmentally safe.
Make sure to remove the old sealant from
the threads of all components.
NOTE
Prior to assembly, certain components
require lubrication. Refer to Table 2 for
details.
NOTE
Refer to figs. 2, page 7 and
IPB1, page 13 for component
identification on all of the assembly
procedures.
Base assembly
Assembly
Pawl and shaft assembly
1 Apply threadlocker to the threads of
pawl and shaft assembly (25).
NOTE
Make sure to attach the pawl and shaft
assembly to the upright without the
captive nuts.
2 Secure the pawl and shaft assembly to
base assembly (33) with screw (32).
2.1 Tighten the screw to 42 - 48 ft.lbf
(57 - 65 nm).
3 Install extension spring (24) into the eye
on the pawl and onto spring post (23).
4 Secure the spring post to the base
assembly with nut (1).
4.1 Refer to fig. IPB1, page 13 for the
proper hole location.
4.2 Tighten the nut securely.

NOTE
Make sure the longer bolts (31) mount
on the pawl assembly side of the base
assembly.
Ribbed-neck bolts
5 Install bolts (31 and 30) and washers (29)
onto the base assembly as required.
Sheave assembly
6 Secure shaft and flange assembly (3) to
sheave assembly (2) with screws (5) and
nuts (1).
7 Secure ratchet (35) to the sheave
assembly with screws (5) and nuts (1).
Model dependent step
8 Screw bushing (7) [with thread sealant]
into shaft (8).
8.1 Tighten the bushing securely.
9 Screw 90 ° union (6) [with thread seal-
ant] into the shaft {or bushing}.
9.1 Make sure the 90 ° union orients
properly (→fig. IPB1, page 13).
9.2 Tighten the 90 ° union securely.
10 Install the shaft and 90 ° union assembly
into the ratchet.
11 Position the sheave assembly (with
attached components) onto the base
assembly.
11.1 Make sure the ratchet side faces
the pawl.
Bearings and arbor
12 Install bearing (28) into bearing
housing (27).
13 Install the first bearing and housing
assembly (extended side first) onto
shaft (8) and onto the bolts.
14 Attach the bearing and housing
assembly to the base assembly with
nuts (1).
14.1 Do not tighten the nuts at this
time.
15 Install the second bearing and housing
assembly (extended side first) onto the
shaft and flange assembly and onto the
bolts.
16 Secure the bearing assembly to the base
assembly with nuts (1).
16.1 Tighten the nuts alternately and
evenly.
17 Tighten the nuts on the opposite bearing
alternately and evenly.
18 Install retaining ring (16) onto the shaft.
Make sure the hex on the shaft
engages the hex socket in the
ratchet and the 90 ° union orients
properly with the sheave assembly
(→fig. IPB1, page 13).
19 Install and hold square key (4) into the
slot of the shaft and flange assembly.
20 Slide spring arbor (26) [flat side first]
onto the shaft and onto the key.
21 Install retaining ring (16) onto the shaft
and flange assembly.
Power spring assembly and
arms
22 Remove button plug (15) from the power
spring assembly.
22.1 Use a blunt tool from behind the
plug to “pop” it from the case.
23 Install the power spring assembly onto
the arbor.
23.1 Make sure the end of the power
spring properly engages the arbor.
NOTE
Make sure the extended portion of the
bearing faces inward
(→fig. IPB1, page 13).
NOTE
Orient the hook on the power spring’s
inner coil to properly engage the recess
in the arbor. Lift and center the coil
within the case during installation.
NOTE
Use care not to damage the gasket.
24 Align the bolt holes in the power spring
assembly with the base assembly.
25 Secure the power spring assembly to the
base assembly with screws (5).
26 Install the button plug into the case of
the power spring assembly.
NOTE
The hose guide arms can attach to the
base assembly in five (5) different
positions.
Select the required relationship of the guide
to the mounting plate of the base assembly.
27 Secure long arm (34) to the base assem-
bly with nuts (13).
27.1 Do not tighten the nuts at this
time.
28 Secure short arm (14) to the power
spring assembly with screws (5) and
nuts (1) as required.
28.1 Do not tighten the screws at this
time.
Hose guide
29 Install each roller assembly (20) onto
each post and shaft assembly (18).
30 Install each roller assembly (21) onto
each post and shaft assembly (19).
31 Install each roller and post subassembly
into one another to create a rectangle.
32 Install the roller and post subassembly
into hose guide plate (17).
33 Install the hose guide assembly into each
arm.
34 Secure the hose guide assembly to the
arms with nuts (13).
35
Tighten the long arm nuts, the short arm
screws, and the hose guide assembly
nuts securely.

Bench Test
While facing the ratchet, turn the reel in a
clockwise direction and allow the ratchet to
latch the pawl.
If the reel does not tension or latch prop-
erly, refer to the
Troubleshooting chart, page 12.

WARNING
Do not exceed the lowest pressure rat-
ing of any component in the system.
Never point a control valve at any
portion of your body or another person.
Lubricant discharged at high velocity
can penetrate the skin and cause severe
injury. Should any fluid appear to punc-
ture the skin, get medical care
immediately.
Ensure all components are in opera-
ble condition. Replace any suspect parts
prior to operation. Personal injury can
occur.
Hold the delivery hose securely until
the reel is securely latched or fully
retracted. Uncontrolled retraction can
result in personal injury.
Reel Mount
1 Mount the reel assembly with the proper
hardware.
NOTE
Should the reel mount to the ceiling or a
wall, it may be advantageous to lessen
its weight with the removal of the power
spring assembly.
Follow the appropriate procedural steps
within the section entitled
Overhaul, page 4.
CAUTION
Never connect rigid piping to the Swivel
assembly. Damage to components can
occur.
2 Screw a connecting hose (with thread
sealant) into the swivel assembly.
3 Attach the connecting hose to the supply
line.
NOTE
Anchor the connecting hose to a suita-
ble surface to prevent the hose from
flexing at the swivel assembly.
The anchor should be in-line with the
inlet of the swivel to minimize side
loading (→fig. 3, page 9).
Setting power spring tension
4 Make sure there is no tension on the
power spring assembly.
NOTE
Wear non-slip gloves when handling the
sheave assembly.
5 While facing the ratchet, turn the sheave
assembly clockwise to set the tension
suggested for the type and length of
delivery hose used (→table 3 for
details).
6 Allow the reel to latch.
Delivery hose attachment
WARNING
Precautions must be taken to ensure
the sheave assembly remains engaged
with the ratchet. To prevent movement
either:
• instruct an assistant to grip the
Sheave securely with non-slip gloved
hands or
• install a clamp on the sheave
(→fig. 4, page 10).
Personal injury can occur.
Once the sheave assembly is secure:
7 Install the delivery hose through the
guide assembly.
8 Connect the delivery hose to the 90 °
union.
8.1 Make sure the connection is secure.
NOTE
Orient the hose to allow its natural
curve to match the sheave.
This reduces torque load on the
power spring assembly and eliminates
the tendency of the hose to stack on one
side of the sheave.

9 Install u-bolt (11) onto the delivery hose
and to the sheave assembly.
10 Install washers (10) and wing nuts (9)
onto the ubolt.
10.1 Tighten the wing nuts securely.
Accessories attachment and
pressurization
11 Install the control valve onto the delivery
hose.
12 Pressurize the system.
12.1 Check for leaks.
13 Install and secure the hose stop to the
delivery hose at the desired position.
14 Make sure the reel is latched then:
–Instruct the assistant to let go of the
sheave assembly or
–carefully remove the clamp from the
Sheave Assembly
15 Pull the delivery hose to disengage the
Ratchet.
16 Allow the delivery hose to slowly retract
onto the sheave assembly.
Checking spring tension
17 Check to ensure the tension on the
power spring is sufficient to properly
hold the hose stop against the hose
guide.
Should the power spring tension require
adjustment:

Adjusting spring tension 19 Remove the control valve and the hose
stop from the delivery hose.
20 Pull the free end of the delivery hose
through the guide.
21 Rotate the Sheave Assembly in the
required direction.
22 Install the control valve and the hose
stop.
23 Pressurize the system.
24 Check to ensure the tension on the
power spring is sufficient to properly
hold the hose stop against the hose
guide.
25 Repeat steps 18 - 24 until the proper
tension is achieved.
CAUTION
Do not overwind the power spring.
Too much tension reduces the life of the
spring.
When the hose is fully extended from
the reel, the power spring should be a
minimum of 1/2turn from a fully wound
condition.
18 Release all pressure within the system.
WARNING
Disconnect the air supply line to the
pump’s motor.
Into an appropriate container, operate
the control valve to discharge remaining
pressure within the system.
Reel operation
WARNING
Do not exceed lowest pressure
rating of any component in system.
Never point a control valve at any
portion of body or another person.
Lubricant discharged at high velocity
can penetrate skin and cause severe
injury. Should any fluid appear to
puncture skin, get medical care
immediately.
Ensure all components are in
operable condition. Replace any suspect
parts prior to operation. Personal injury
can occur.
Hold delivery hose securely until reel
is securely latched or fully retracted.
Uncontrolled retraction can result in
personal injury.
Latch lockout
Over-rotation of the reel
NOTE
Do not extend the hose from the reel too
rapidly. Too much velocity (when the
hose is fully extended) can cause the
reel to over-rotate and latch.
Should latch lockout occur, pulling on the
hose will not release the latch mechanism.
With the reel latch in this condition it will
be necessary to have an assistant maintain
tension on the hose while the latching
mechanism is manually released.
WARNING
The reel is under maximum spring
tension. Personal injury can occur.

1 Instruct the assistant to grip the hose
securely with both hands to prevent
uncontrolled retraction.
2 Grip the sheave assembly securely with
gloved hands.
2.1 Gloves should be non-slip.
3 Turn the sheave assembly just enough to
allow the pawl to be free of tension from
the ratchet.
4 While maintaining the position of the
sheave assembly with one hand, move
the pawl away from the ratchet.
4.1 Use a screwdriver or other suitable
tool.
5 Instruct the assistant to allow the hose to
retract slowly onto the sheave assembly.

1. Tighten connection.
2. Apply sealant to union (6) and tighten into bushing (7)
[or shaft (8)].
3. Apply sealant to bushing (7) and tighten into shaft (8).
