Conventions
This manual uses the following conventions:
Terminology
Throughout the manual, the terms Local and Remote are used in regard to the
operators and equipment deployed in a CM Series of KVM over IP Switch
installation. Depending on the point of view, users and servers can be
considered Local under some circumstances, and Remote under others:
Switch’s Point of View
emote users — Someone who logs in over the net from a location that
is remote from the switch.
Local Console — The keyboard, mouse, and monitor connected
directly to the switch.
User’s Point of View
Local client users — Someone who’s sitting at his computer
performing operations on the servers connected to the switch that is
remote from him.
emote servers — Servers that are remote from the local client user.
Monospaced Indicates text that you should key in.
[ ] Indicates keys you should press. For example, [Enter] means
to press the Enter key. If keys need to be chorded, they appear
together in the same bracket with a plus sign between them:
[Ctrl+Alt].
1. Numbered lists represent procedures with sequential steps.
♦Bullet lists provide information, but do not involve sequential
steps.
>Indicates selecting the option (such as on a menu or dialog
box), that comes next. For example, Start > Run means to
open the Start menu, and then select Run.
Indicates critical information.

Introduction
Overview
The CM Series of KVM Over IP Switches ( CM416VA / CM432VA /
CM464VA / CM416A / CM816A) provides local console and remote
over IP access for users to monitor and access their entire data center over a
network. The CM series offers superior FHD video resolution up to 1920 x
1200, virtual media transmissions at double speed, FIPS 140-2 with level 1
security standards by using an embedded FIPS 140-2 certified OpenSSL
cryptographic module. Equipped with dual on-board NICs, the CM series is
built to ensure reliability and availability of remote access to all servers. The
CM series can be remotely accessed via WinClient / JavaClient* at a console
from a separated location for management and operation.
These CM Series of KVM Over IP Switches are differentiated according to
the number of buses they support and the number of KVM ports they provide
– as shown below:
Each bus permits a separate user session so that up to 4 (Shared Local and
emote) or 8 (Shared Local and emote) concurrent independent connections
to the attached servers can take place. The diagram on the next page shows how
the CM464VA switches can be connected and accessed via 1 local and 7
remote sessions.

The CM series is compatible with ATEN’s KVM over IP Console Station –
the KA82 series. The KA82 series is a standalone console that replaces PC or
NB, enabling users to remotely access, monitor and control all servers
connected to multiple ATEN’s CM series with impenetrable security against
virus threats. It is especially suitable for environments where a PC is not
allowed. In addition, the CM series works with ATEN’s PDU remote power
management systems from the KVM over IP switches’ user interface.
Integrated with ATEN's exclusive CM API, the CM series delivers optimal
OC functionality and customizable system integration and automation.
Additionally, by using the CMMS ( CM Management Software), an
intuitive, centralized management platform featuring Panel Array, users can
manage, monitor, and control up to hundreds of CM devices simultaneously.
To ensure seamless connectivity, the CM series is equipped with dual LAN
and dual power capability for keeping operation at the production line smooth
and efficient.
All in all, the CM series provides a complete system management across
different facilities reduces the number of operators required on site to minimize
space requirement while maximizing personnel efficiency. With its over-IP
access eliminating the need to physically move legacy KVM solution to each
malfunctioning unit, providing users with the ability to capture the device
display screen data for data collection and direct OC analysis, and using APIs
for software integration applications, it is an outstanding solution for high-tech
production lines requiring durable and reliable over-IP server management.
Note: We recommend using WinClient app or JavaClient app for more robust
management and control. Performance and usage may vary depending
on the user’s hardware configuration. A minimum of 8GB AM, dual
core CPU and a graphics card that supports OpenGL is required. Please
also make sure that the browser is the latest version.
