These instructions generally describe the installation, operation and maintenance of the SANITAIRE®
Germicidal Ultraviolet Room Air Sanitizer Model RSM2680. Questions that are not specically
answerable by these instructions should be directed to the factory. Atlantic Ultraviolet Corporation®
takes all possible precautions when packaging equipment to prevent damage. Carefully inspect and
report all damages. Do not install damaged equipment. Follow all instructions on any labels or tags.
Carefully inspect all packing materials before discarding to prevent the loss of accessories,
mounting hardware, spare parts or instructions.

SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
CAUTION
It is the user’s responsibility to determine and validate the suitability of this equipment for use in the user’s system or process. No warranty or representation
is made by the manufacturer with respect to suitability or performance of this equipment or to the results that may be expected from its use. The user should
periodically inspect, clean as necessary and conrm the presence and good legibility of the product safety labels. Contact the factory for replacement labels in the
event that any of the labels are missing or illegible.
To guard against injury, basic safety precautions should be observed, including the following:
1. Read and follow ALL safety instructions.
Avoid exposure to direct or reected germicidal ultraviolet rays. Germicidal ultraviolet
rays are harmful to the eyes and skin.
2. Intended for indoor use only.
3. Do not alter design or construction.
4. Do not use this xture for other than its intended purpose, as described in this manual.
5. Do not override safety interlock.
6. Do not store/operate under any source of moisture or condensation, such as humidiers, cooling coils, etc.
7. Do not remove any labels or devices.
8. Do not operate without proper electrical ground.
9. Do not operate the unit if there is visible or suspected damage to the unit or, if applicable, there is damage
to power cord and/or plug.
10. Keep inlet and outlet of the blowers clean and clear of debris.
11. Do not operate without access doors closed and locked.
12. Do not operate without all 4 lters installed behind the intake grills.
13. Stay clear of blowers or other moving parts that can cause injuries.
14. Utility power supplied to the unit MUST match power requirements listed on the unit label.
15. Always disconnect power to the unit before performing any service or maintenance.
16. Read and follow all notices and warnings on the unit.

ConstruCtion
The SANITAIRE®Germicidal Ultraviolet Room Air Sanitizer consists of:
• STER-L-RAY ®Germicidal Ultraviolet Lamps: Eight lamps deliver germicidal ultraviolet energy at the specic wavelength
of 254 nanometers (nm), which effectively inactivates airborne microbes including virus, bacteria, and mold spores.
• Surelite™ Electronic Ballast(s): Capable of operating at 120v 50/60 Hz. Other power supplies may be available. Contact
factory for specics.
• Power Cord: A standard, NEMA 5-15, three-prong plug, and operates on 120v AC 60Hz single-phase standard
household current.
• Cord Wrap: Provides convenient storage of 20′ power cord.
• Intake Grills & Filters: Four intake grills containing synthetic pleated air lters with a MERV 7 rating.
• Exit Exhaust: Top louvered exhaust, which limits ultraviolet radiation from passing into the room, helps to protect the room’s
occupants from ultraviolet exposure.
• Stainless Steel Construction: All stainless-steel frame and access panels & doors constructed of type 304. Stainless steel
construction provides strength, durability, and lasting value.
• Keyed Power Switch: Power operation controlled by key access to ensure xture is controlled by authorized personnel only.
• Unit Interior Access: Access doors are key locked and protected by interlock safety switch. The switch interrupts power to the
sanitizer when the access door(s) are opened to the disinfection chamber. The key lock ensures access is limited to authorized
personnel only.
• Locking casters: Allow the SANITAIRE®RSM2680 to be easily transported from one area to another.
• Blower: Belt driven blower produces greater than 2000 CFM, reducing turnover times in large areas.
• Unit Monitoring: Unit operation is monitored from the Front Access Door. Panel includes individual lamp monitoring, lamp and
lter life monitoring, and unit display of operating hours.

PrinCiPle of oPeration
The SANITAIRE®design has been carefully conceived to provide germicidal ultraviolet exposure for air disinfection. The
dosage, as it applies to ultraviolet disinfection, is a function of time, and the intensity, of ultraviolet radiation, to which the air
is exposed. The exposure time, in seconds, is the total time it takes the air to move through the ultraviolet eld, produced by the
germicidal lamps. Exposure time is related to the airow rate, the higher the airow, the lower the exposure time or the lower the
airow, the higher the exposure time. The operation of the SANITAIRE®Germicidal Ultraviolet Room Air Sanitizer is as follows:
1. Air from the room is drawn into the xture through the four intake grills in the lower half of the unit’s body and pulled thru
the pleated lters behind each of these grills.
2. The air is forced upwards into the exposure chamber, where it is irradiated by the eight germicidal ultraviolet lamps.
3. The treated air exits the top of the unit, through the louvered- exhaust panel and reintroduced to the room. (See Figure 2).

Indoor Use Only – The equipment must be sheltered from exposure to the elements and extremes in
temperature. Temperature range: 40°F to 95°F. The user should periodically inspect, clean as necessary and conrm the
presence and good legibility of the Product safety labels. Contact the factory for replacement labels in the event that any of
the labeling is missing or illegible.
The UV Treatment Results achieved are subject to variations in application conditions, it is recommended
that culture tests be performed to conrm desired outcomes.
limitation of use
• Overexposure to germicidal ultraviolet rays will
result in the irritation of the eyes and reddening
of the skin. For that reason, it is of the utmost
importance that your ultraviolet application be
carefully planned and implemented so as to
avoid exposure of people and other living things
to direct or reected ultraviolet rays.
• The American Conference of Governmental
Industrial Hygienists (ACGIH) has established
that the ultraviolet radiant exposure incident for
unprotected eyes or skin should not exceed 0.2
microwatts per square centimeter (µW/cm2)
at 254 nanometers (nm) for an eight (8) hour
period. (“2004 TLVs® and BEIs®”)

UV Lamp Operation Indicators: Glow green when lamps are operating correctly or red when they are off or out. (See Figure 3)
Lamp & Filter Replacement Indicators: The lamp and lter replacement timers are a set of lights that will change when
replacement of the lamps and or lters is needed. This is a timed function rather than a sensor that determines when the
STER-L-RAY ®Lamps or lters need to be changed. There is a set of three lights for both the lamps and lters (shown below).
Lamp life is 10,000 operating hours. Filter life is 5,000 operating hours.
UNPACKING
IN ORDER TO PERFORM THIS TASK, BE SURE TO WEAR THE FOLLOWING SAFETY
EQUIPMENT: SAFETY GLASSES OR A FACE SHIELD, AS WELL AS GLOVES.
• Remove the SANITAIRE®Germicidal Ultraviolet Room Air Sanitizer from its shipping crate.
• Atlantic Ultraviolet Corporation® takes all possible precautions when packaging this xture to prevent damage. Carefully
inspect the sanitizer, power cord, and plug for damage. Report all damage immediately. Do not assemble or operate if there is
any damage, visible or suspected.
• STER-L-RAY ®Germicidal lamps are packed separately, to ensure maximum protection for the lamps. Keep the lamps aside
until ready for installation.
• Carefully inspect all packing materials to prevent the loss of accessories, hardware, spare parts or instructions.
• Do not discard packing materials until xture is assembled and inspection is complete.
The SANITAIRE®Model RSM2680 includes:
• 1 - 2,000 CFM displacement (8) lamp unit
with 20-foot line cord (approximate)
• 8 - STER-L-RAY ®Germicidal Ultraviolet Lamps
• 4 - Synthetic Pleated Filters
• 2 - Front & Rear Door Keys
• 2 - Power Switch Keys

Key switCh and Power Control
The power switch is located at the front of the unit on the lower right side. It allows the operator to run the unit in two modes:
BLOWER ONLY (Left) or LAMP & BLOWER (Right). The center position is the OFF.

The reset buttons are located at the front of the unit on the lower left side. The lamp
and lter timer should be reset after each time the lamps and or lters are replaced.
This is accomplished by holding down the reset button for about ve seconds until
the timer lights ash and the green light comes on.

INSTALLATION

IN ORDER TO PERFORM THIS TASK, BE SURE TO WEAR THE FOLLOWING SAFETY
EQUIPMENT: SAFETY GLASSES OR A FACE SHIELD, AS WELL AS GLOVES.
Always disconnect power to the xture before performing any service or maintenance.
Ultraviolet lamps are easily damaged and may cause injury if broken. Exercise care when handling.
1. Disconnect power to the SANITAIRE®.
2. Using the key provided unlock the front and rear doors and rotate all latches on each of these doors so that they face vertical
and open the front and rear doors. (“Lamp Installation” continued on Page 9)

3. Carefully examine the pin conguration on the STER-L-RAY ®lamps base to ensure that the STER-L-RAY ®lamp is
installed correctly into the lampholder. (See Figure 6 below, which shows the lampholder, and Figure 7 below, which shows
the lamp base.)
4. Begin installing the STER-L-RAY ®lamps starting with center row, continue to the next row closest to the door until all
STER-L-RAY ®lamps have been installed.
5. Holding the STER-L-RAY ®lamp so that its pin conguration matches the lampholder, carefully push the lamp into the
connector (See Figure 8).
6. Once the STER-L-RAY ®lamp is securely seated into the connector, carefully push it into the end support (See Figure 9).
7. Repeat until all STER-L-RAY ®lamps have been installed into the unit. Close access doors and restore power to the unit.
8. Verify unit operation by viewing the Monitoring Panel on the front of the SANITAIRE®RSM2680 (See Figure 3 on Page 7).
If unit is not operating properly, go to “Troubleshooting” section on Page 14.

IN ORDER TO PERFORM THIS TASK, BE SURE TO WEAR THE FOLLOWING SAFETY
EQUIPMENT: SAFETY GLASSES OR A FACE SHIELD, AS WELL AS GLOVES.
Always disconnect power to the xture before performing any service or maintenance.
1. Disconnect power to the SANITAIRE®.
2. Turn the two white plastic latches on each of the top corners of the lower lter grill and allow the grill to pivot out to expose
the lter behind the grill (See Figure 10). Once the lter is exposed, slide it from its location (Figure 11).
3. Once the lter is removed, use a vacuum to remove any trapped dust or dirt in and
along the lter frame. Be careful not to damage the protective mesh located in the
back of the lter frame. Contact factory if this mesh is ever damaged or appears to
need replacement.
4. Position the replacement lter so that the arrows on the lter showing the ow
direction face inwards to the unit and slide the lter into the frame (See Figure 12).
5. Once the lter is in place, pivot the lter grill back into place and rotate the two white
plastic latches securing the lter in place.
unit PlaCement
SANITAIRE® Model RSM2680 xture is recommended for use in large conference rooms, auditoriums or any large area which
may or may not contain occupants. For maximum efciency, the SANITAIRE®should be located as centrally as possible.
Access to the room does not need to be controlled while the xture is operating. The louvered exhaust panel, on the top of the
SANITAIRE®Germicidal Ultraviolet Room Air Sanitizer, limits ultraviolet radiation from passing into the room, protecting the
room’s occupants from ultraviolet exposure.
To ensure safe and proper use, make sure the location follow these recommendations:
• SANITAIRE®should be operated indoors only.
• Selected location should allow enough space to allow free air to enter the lower lter grills and be clear of any obstruction
that would hinder or reduce smooth air ow in the grills.
• Area selected should be clean and free from dust and particles which may be drawing into the intake grills.
• Has a properly grounded electrical outlet within approximately 15 feet of the unit.
• The SANITAIRE®should not be operated in areas with ceiling heights lower than 8 feet.
• SANITAIRE® is not recommended to be operated in areas that have high gloss nished ceilings, which may cause excessive
reection back into the room from the top exhaust louvers. (Contact the factory for further information.)
