Installation & Operation
The chg004 is a 4-bay charger for SpectraPulse®transmitters using supplied rechargeable AA Nickel
Metal Hydride (NiMH) batteries. The 4 charging bays hold either mtu101 Microphone Transmitters or
mtu201 XLR Desk Stand Transmitters. The chg004 can also charge up to two mtu301 units.
Charger Features
• Batteries are charged within the SpectraPulse Transmitters.
• Built-in safety feature monitors cell voltage and automatically stops charging if problems
are detected.
• Automatically stops charging if alkaline (non-rechargeable) batteries are installed.
• Automatically stops charging if damaged batteries are installed.
• Maintenance charging prevents battery self-discharge until the transmitter is removed from charger.
WARNING: Do not use the chg004 Charger to charge batteries of other types besides NiMH or
damage may result. If a transmitter with alkaline batteries is inserted for charging, the red error LED
will light as a warning.
What’s in the box:
• Chg004 Charger
• 8 NiMH AA batteries
• Wall adapter power supply
• Installation & Operation Manual

4
How to charge the mtu101 and/or mtu201:
1. Set each transmitter’s power switch to the off position.
2. Install the included NiMH AA batteries in each transmitter, observing correct polarity as marked
inside the transmitter.
3. Plug the DC cable from the included wall-adapter power supply into the rear of the chg004; plug
the other end of the power cord into a standard wall outlet.
4. Place the mtu101 and/or mtu201 units in charging bays as illustrated.
5. Each charging bay has two LEDs that indicate charging/error status:
• Green/Yellow Charging Status LED is on the left
• Red Error LED is on the right
6. When an mtu101 or mtu201 is placed in a charging bay, the Charging Status LED will blink green
once and then turn yellow to indicate charging (or maintenance charge) is in progress.
7. When the Charging Status LED lights green, the batteries are fully charged and ready for use. You
may use them immediately, or leave the units in the recharging station until next needed. The unit
is equipped with maintenance charge ability; it monitors the battery voltage and recharges (tops off)
as necessary until the transmitter is removed from the charger.
LED DISPLAY: DESCRIPTION / FUNCTION:
Left LED Right LED
Off Off Charger bay empty or power not connected.
Green/Yellow Off Green blink, 1 time, then Yellow. mtu101 or mtu201 installed.
Yellow Off mtu101 or mtu201 are charging.
Yellow Red Temperature limits exceeded in charger.*
Off Red Battery problem. **
Green Off Batteries are fully charged and ready for use.
*If the Error LED (red) and Charging Status LED (yellow) are both illuminated, temperature limits have been exceed in
the charger. In this case, remove all mtu’s from their charging bays, disconnect and then re-connect the power to
the charger. The LED’s should return to normal operation. If the problem persists, contact the Audio-Technica U.S.
Service Department.
**Any red LED indication means the charge bay has stopped charging (effectively shut-down), so there is no danger
or chance of damage to equipment. In the case of a red LED indication, remove the affected mtu’s from their
charging bays. Check that the supplied NiMH batteries are installed; change batteries if necessary and re-install into
the charging bays. If the problem persists, contact the Audio-Technica U.S. Service Department.

How to charge the mtu301:
1. Set the transmitter’s power switch to the off position.
2. Install the NiMH AA batteries (included with chg001) in the transmitter, observing correct polarity as
marked inside the transmitter. For installation instructions, see the mtu301 operation manual.
3. Plug the DC cable from the included wall-adapter power supply into the rear of the chg004; plug
the other end of the power cord into a standard wall outlet.
4. Connect the mtu301 Body-pack Transmitter to the chg004 Charger via the charging
cable as illustrated. Note: Charging cable included with chg001; two mtu301 units can
be charged simultaneously.
5. The yellow LED on the side of the mtu301 illuminates to indicate charging is in progress.
Note: If the yellow LED does not light, check that the batteries are correctly installed
in the mtu301.
6. The red LED illuminates to indicate a charging system error. Causes include: non-NiHM batteries;
failed batteries; incorrectly installed batteries; brief interruption in power.
7. When the charge is completed, the yellow indicator is turned off.
Note: Maximum charging time is about four hours.
8. The unit is equipped with maintenance charge ability; it monitors the battery voltage and
recharges (tops off) as necessary until the transmitter is unplugged from the charger.
