I NTRODUCTION
Dear Customer!
eThe devices, assembly groups or connections described in this manual are made for the indicated
use only. If you are not sure about the intended purpose of the product, please contact your dealer.
☞In order to operate the system telephone on the PBX systems COMpact 4410 USB, COMpact 2206
USB, COMpact 4406 DSL, COMmander Basic and COMmander Basic 19", these Auerswald PBX
systems must have the Software version 1.6A or newer. You will need the PC programs COMset
(version 2.5.6 or newer) and COMtools (version 2.2.51 or newer) for configuration. If this is not
the case, please perform an update.
Functional Description and Scope of Functions
The cordless system telephone COMfort DECT is designed for the connection to the Auerswald
PBX systems COMpact 4410 USB, COMpact 2206 USB, COMpact 4406 DSL, COMmander Basic
and COMmander Basic 19". You do not only phone with digital ISDN speech quality but you are still
reachable away from your office. The handset has a comfortable and easy-to-use handling, is sur-
prisingly light-weight but still robust. It is fitting well for professional use.
COMfort DECT consists of several components that may be combined according to your require-
ments. There is first of all of the base station (COMfort DECT Base 128) and the handset
(COMfort DECT 800). You can log in up to eight COMfort DECT 800 handsets to one base station.
With the COMfort DECT repeaters (XA), (available as an option) you can bridge distances of up to
1000 m e.g. to supply distanced buildings with DECT system telephony.
Please ask your authorized dealer.

Scope of Functions and Features
☞The scope of functions described here is only completely usable with a professional installation and
a correct configuration of the PBX and the connected PC. We highly recommend to consult your
authorized dealer first.
Please ask your network operator about the availability of some ISDN service attributes. Some of
these functions may be available for an extra fee.
The operation of the telephones on other PBX systems than recommended or on the public tele-
phone network is not intended.

Terms/Abbreviation used in the Manual
Cursor: Insert or writing symbol
LED: Light Emitting Diode. An electrical component looking like a little lamp/light and being used
for indications. (also multi-colored).
RPN: Radio Fixed Part Number, number of the sender (base station/repeater)
DECT: Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications, digital radio telephone network
RSSI: Radio Signal Strength Indicator, indicator of the receiver signal strength
Safety Precautions
Pay attention to the following advice:
앫Read the manual and keep it for reference. Additional questions can be answered by your dealer.
There are no user serviceable parts inside. Do not open the case!
앫Never touch the contacts in the plugs with pointed, metallic or wet material.
앫Avoid placing the device into direct sunshine or other source of temperature.

앫Protect the device against moisture, dirt, aggressive fluids or steam.
앫Avoid placing the device into strong electromagnetic fields (electric motors, mobile phones, TV
sets, VCRs, radios and household equipment). The speech quality may suffer in such a case.
앫Connect the cabling only to jacks suitable for the purpose. Never exchange the plugs of the
cables.

Basics about the Installation
Before starting the configuration of a DECT system, the circumstances have to be defined for the
installation of the individual components.
Installation Location of COMfort DECT Base 128
Only a connection to an internal S0port of the PBX is necessary for the installation. A power supply
with 230 V is not necessary. Please pay attention when installing the base: An optimal position for
the spread of radio waves has to be selected. Basement rooms are generally unfavorable for the
installation of a DECT base station. The base station should be installed higher than 2 m above
ground otherwise walking persons would influence the radio signals. But it should not be installed
too high, especially e.g. if there is a ceiling with steel beams. If an outside area should also be
reached, seasonal condition changes have to be taken seriously into account (e.g. leaves on trees
or bushes).
Installation Location of COMfort DECT Repeater
For the installation of the repeater a 230 V mains outlet with protective earth and the reception area
of the base station or another repeater have to be considered. A repeater must always be within the
reception area of the base station of another repeater. No more than three repeaters may be cas-
caded (pic. 1 on page 11). For bridging longer distances the use of a COMfort DECT Repeater XA
with a connection of the COMfort DECT Antenna is recommended (pic. 2). Thanks to its help dis-
tances of up to 1000 m can be bridged (outside of closed rooms and at line of sight).

☞To check the range it is possible to measure the field strength and the quality of the radio signal with
the handset after a successful log in procedure (see Seite 27).
You will find additional advice about the correct installation and use of base stations and repeaters
in the technical tip „COMfort DECT“ (under service/support in the Internet at http://www.auers-
wald.de or on the Auerswald Mega Disk version 4.42 or newer).
Connect the Base Station to the PBX
The cable for the connection to the base station is contained in the scope of delivery. Plug the small
Western modular plug into the jack labeled with „ISDN“ on the back of the base station (pic. 3 on
page 12). Put the other Western modular plug into a jack of the internal S0bus. As soon as the PBX
recognizes the base station, the LED starts to glow green (pic. 4 on page 12) on the base station.
This procedure may take some seconds.

☞The Auerswald PBX must be connected to the 230 V mains for installation of the system telephone.
In order to operate the system telephone on the PBX systems COMpact 4410 USB, COMpact 2206
USB, COMpact 4406 DSL, COMmander Basic and COMmander Basic 19", these Auerswald PBX
systems must have the Software version 1.6A or newer. If this is not the case, please perform a
PBX update (see manual of the PBX).

Login of the Handset to the Base Station
To connect a handset to the base station as described later, the following preconditions have to be
fulfilled first:
The base station has to be connected to the PBX and the battery pack of the handset has to be
connected to the handset and charged (see manual of the handset). The handset has to be within
the range of the base station.
☞If you like to prepare a configuration with the assignment of internal telephone numbers first, you
can directly enter the serial numbers of the individual handsets into the configuration program COM-
set of the PBX. The following log in procedure must be performed anyway for each handset later.
Start the Log in at the Base Station
Press the gray pushbutton on the bottom at the front side of the base station now until the LED of
the base station flashes alternately in red and green colors. Now you have 60 seconds time to per-
form the following procedure on the handset. If this is not time enough, the pushbutton has to be
pressed again.
Perform the Log in at the Handset

☞If the subscription was not successful (if the message „subscription failed“ appears on the display),
it might have the following causes:
- The base station was not in the subscription mode because the pushbutton has not been pressed
long enough (the LED must flashes alternately in red and green colors) or the time window of 60
seconds has been exceeded.
- The handset has already been subscribed. In this case you can select the serial number of the
base station in the menu „subscription“ under „select base“.
- During the subscription the handset was too close to the base station. Repeat the subscription
procedure at least half a meter away from the base station.
- The list of the subscripted handsets in the base station is full. Unused handsets should be
removed (see chapter Logout of the Handset from the Base Station on page 19).
If you like to check the serial number of the base station, you will find it on the sticker on the back
of the base station (see pic. 3 on page 12).
NOEnter the last 4 digits of the serial number of the

Assign internal Telephone Numbers to the Handsets
The internal telephone numbers are assigned to the individual handsets with the configuration pro-
gram COMset of the PBX. For this purpose the base station has to be connected to the internal S0
bus of the PBX.
햲Open the configuration program and read out the existing configuration of the PBX (File ... Open
... PBX).
햳On the page „Internal telephone numbers ... Subscriber“ (pic. 5 on page 17) you have to enter
as many new telephone numbers as there are handsets. Select for these telephone numbers
under „Kind of device“ the device „COMfort DECT“. Select the internal S0port (and the mod-
ule) connected to the corresponding base station.
☞Pay attention to the fact that a maximum of one base station and 8 handsets - that are 8 internal
telephone numbers- are possible on one internal S0port (within one call distribution for one external
telephone number a maximum of 3 handsets can be called).
햴Now open the page „Internal telephone numbers ... Scr -> COMfort DECT“ (pic. 5 on
page 17). Depending on how many S0ports you have configured telephone numbers for hand-
sets, one or more base stations with assigned telephone numbers are displayed.
To assign a telephone number to a handset, select or enter the serial number of the handset in
the column „Serial number of the mobile handset“ in the corresponding line now. Each serial
number has to be assigned to one telephone number only. If you have already subscribed the
handsets to the base station (see chapter Login of the Handset to the Base Station on page 13),
you can browse through the list of serial numbers of these handset by double clicking and one
click on the downwards arrow and select a serial number by mouse click then.

햵If you have finished entering all settings, you have to transfer the configuration into the PBX (File
... Save ... PBX).
☞The field with the manually entered serial number remains marked in blue until the handset has
been correctly subscribed to the base station (see chapter Login of the Handset to the Base Station
on page 13) and the configuration is read out again.
Logout of the Handset from the Base Station
To be able to unsubscribe a handset from the base station, the following steps have to be done one
after the other:
Logout of the Handsets from the Base Station and PBX
햲Open the configuration program COMset and read out the existing configuration of the PBX (File
... Open ... PBX).
햳Now open the page „Internal telephone numbers ... Scr -> COMfort DECT“ (pic. 5 on
page 17). Enter the hook into the column „logout“ behind the corresponding serial number.
햴Write back the configuration to the PBX (File ... Save ... PBX).
☞To logout a handset, its series number must already been assigned to an internal telephone num-
ber. If that is not the case, create a telephone number for this purpose and assign it (see chapter
Assign internal Telephone Numbers to the Handsets on page 16). If the handset has been logged-
out (After reading the configuration this serial number will not be offered in the column „Serial num-
ber of the mobile handset“ any longer), the useless internal telephone number may be deleted
again.
