Which systems can you connect your telephone to?
This telephone is only intended to be connected to Avaya PBX systems. It must not be con-
nected directly to a PSTN.
Declaration of conformity
We,Avaya GmbH & Co. KG, declare that the T3 IP Compact telephone complies with the basic
requirements and other relevant regulations of Directive 1999/5/EU (Radio and Telecommuni-
cation Terminal Equipment, R&TTE).
This telephone is designed for connection to Ethernet / LAN interfaces of IP-compatible tele-
communications systems from Avaya, and complies with the basic requirements of EU Direc-
tive 1999/5/EU (R&TTE).
Avaya cannot guarantee successful operation of the telephone in LAN or intranet environ-
ments in which no Avaya TK system is present.
If any problems should occur during operation, please contact your specialist dealer or your
system administrator first.

To which system is your telephone connected?
You can tell which Avaya telephone system your telephone is connected to as follows:
When logging on for the first time:
If your telephone is connected to the Integral 5 communication server, a log-on window will
first appear and here you can enter your extension number and PIN. No log-on window
appears if your telephone is connected to the Integral 55 communication server.
If you have already logged on:
During the call or with the receiver off-hook press the "Menu" key:
The "Talk list" menu item appears, but only if your telephone is connected to the Integral 55
communication server.

Hints for the location of the phone
Place the telephone on a non-slip surface, especially if the furniture is new or has recently
been cleaned or polished. Varnishes or cleaning agents may contain substances which soften
the pads on the underside of the telephone and the pads could then mark your furniture. Avaya
cannot assume liability for damage of this kind.
Repairs
The telephone set may only be opened or repaired by qualified technicians. Do not open the
telephone yourself. Doing so could cause damage to the telephone, making it inoperable.
Notes on the description of the operating procedures
All procedures described in this operating manual are based on the standard assignment of
the function keys.
When reprogramming function keys, please bear in mind that this may change the operating
procedures.
Additional functions
Functions marked by a * are not standard features of your telephone.
Further functions may be disabled or, depending on the system software, unavailable. Please
refer to your system administrator if you wish to use one of these functions.

Always dispose of old equipment correctly - keep our environment tidy
Old electrical and electronic equipment marked with this symbol can con-
tain substances hazardous to human beings and the environment. Never
dispose of these items together with unsorted municipal waste
(household waste). In order to protect the environment, public collection
points have been set up to ensure the correct disposal of old electrical
and electronic equipment marked with this symbol.
To reduce the risk of these substances being released into the environ-
ment and to reduce the burden on natural resources, it is also possible to
participate in Avayaí used equipment return system. This system ensu-
res the correct recycling of old equipment as well as the re-utilisation of

Avaya grants End User a license within the scope of the license types described below. The

... Digit keys with letters: For dialling call numbers and entering letters and
symbols.
Star and hash: For special functions
Escape: Ends the current connection during a call. Also cancels an input (the next higher
menu level then appears in the display).
Clear: Deletes the character above the marker. The last character is deleted if the cursor is
positioned behind the last character. If the Clear key is held down, the characters entered last
are deleted one after the other (as with a PC). This key can also be used to delete entries from
a list (e.g. from the call list or phone book). This can be done as follows: first mark the entry
and then press the "Clear" key. The arrow in front of the entry then starts to flash. If you press
"OK" or press "Clear" again while the entry is flashing, the entry will be deleted.
Arrow up / down: Moves the cursor up or down in the display.
+ / -: Increases or decreases the volume or contrast.
Arrow left / right: moves the cursor to the left or right in the display.
Enter: opens a selected menu item or confirms an input.

The display helps you
The displays guide you step by step as you use the phone. The display contains various items
of information such as the status of your current connection.
The phone number of every external ISDN caller appears in the display providing they have
not disabled call number display. This enables you to see who is calling. If the name and
phone number of the caller is saved in your phone book, the name will be displayed when he
calls.

Basic rules of operation
The following pages provide a short description of the basic rules of operation for your tele-
phone:
Selecting functions from the menu
Press the "Menu" function key.
or can be used to scroll to the desired menu item.
Generally speaking, two lines are used for the display. When you reach the end of the menu,
pressing takes you back to the first menu item. When you are at the top of the menu, pres-
sing takes you to the last entry.
A header is always shown for the idle display, the telephone book, the first menu level and the
connection display.
Confirm your selection. The selected function is displayed. In many cases a submenu
also appears. You can scroll through the submenu in the same way as with the main menu.
•Menu items or list entries that do not completely fit on the display because they are too
long are abbreviated using "...". You can use the arrow keys and to scroll through the
full text.
•If you press the "Menu" function key during a call or when the receiver has been lifted,
you can view information about the IP settings and also make settings yourself.
Cancelling or exiting an action
If you have entered the wrong data or made the wrong setting:
Press (several times if necessary) to cancel the procedure. You then return to the menu
one level higher or to the idle display.
What is shown on the idle display?
The idle display shows:
•The phone number and name (ifset up [
↑ 71])
•The day of the week
•The date and time
If there is not enough display space available, first the day of the week and then the date will
be hidden.

Entering text
The first letter of every word in a phone book entry is automatically capitalised.
Enter the desired text using the alphanumeric keys.
You can find out how many times you have to press the relevant key to obtain the desired cha-
racter in the following table:

General key controls
•Deleting a character with the Clear key:
If the cursor is to the right of the entered text, then the Clear key is the backspace
function. (The characters you have already entered are deleted from right to left).
If the cursor is in the middle of the text you have entered, pressing the Clear key deletes
the selected character, and the right character moves to the left.
•If the cursor is in the middle of the text, characters are entered before the cursor position.
•"Spaces" are entered using the "0" key (see table).
•Switching from upper- to lower-case using the # key:
The first letter and the letter after a space are automatically written as capitals.
The hash key # is used to switch permanently to capital letters or, by it pressing again, to
lower case (toggling).
•If a text does not completely fit in the display, this is represented by "...". You can use the
arrow keys and to scroll through the text.
Status messages
If there are any specific messages about the status of your telephone, the telephone will inform
you of this with an indicator arrow next to the time. A status message occurs when
•there is important information for you (e.g. new entry in the call list) or
•you have activated special functions (e.g. ring tone switched off).
In the case of particularly important messages (no network, "Call diversion" set up, telephone
locked, and so on) the arrow and your own call number will flash.
All messages are arranged one below the other in the status menu. You can activate the asso-
ciated menu item directly from a status message, e.g. to change the setting.
Scroll to the desired status message.
Confirm entry.
•You can switch back from the status messages to the idle display with the Escape key.

You can make the following settings immediately or during your first telephone calls:
•Adapt thevolume [
↑ 76] of the ring tone, the handset and the handsfree settings to suit
your surroundings
•Adapt thecontrast [
↑ 77] of the display to your lighting conditions
•Select which language [
↑ 78] is to be used for all display information. The languages
available are English, German, French, Spanish, Dutch and Italian.
•Save frequently used call numbers to a personal phone book [
↑ 46]. You can modify per-
sonal phone book entries yourself.

Telephone, connecting
After connecting to the LAN (Local Area Network) and to the power supply (only if the tele-
phone is not powered via the LAN) the telephone software is activated and after that a search
for a gatekeeper (responsible for access authorization) starts automatically. Usually a gatekee-
per is found, and you can then immediately make a call. However, it will not yet be possible to
answer calls. To do this you first have to enter your call number and PIN in the "User admini-
stration" menu (see Entering your own call number and PIN [
↑ 21]).
•From the time it is commissioned, the IP phone checks repeatedly whether there is
another device in the network with the same IP address and is therefore interfering with
network access. This is indicated in the status line and the information line with IP
address conflict . If this is the case, the terminal is not functional; other devices
also experience malfunctions. As long as there is a conflict, this message appears
repeatedly.
Your system administrator must clear the error in the network.
•Instead of using the default gatekeeper you can select a gatekeeper when you log on [
↑ 21].
If no gatekeeper is found during the automatic search run
The automatic search for a gatekeeper does not come up with anything. The display of your
telephone has been displaying the message "....Searching Network..........." for some time.
However, you still have the option of selecting a gatekeeper from the gatekeeper list, provided
the list actually has some entries:
Scroll to the Gatekeeper list menu item.
Confirm entry.
Select a gatekeeper, e.g. GKxyz 123.456.000.123 .
Confirm entry. The search for the gatekeeper you specified now starts. After a maximum
of 10 seconds, a message appears on the display indicating whether the logon was suc-
cessful.
