IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
WARNING
Read all instructions.
WARNING
Requirements needed to operate this device:
- High-voltage technican (HVT)
- High-voltage expert (HVE)
- Electrically qualified person for high-voltage systems in vehicles
- Electrician for special tasks on high-voltage systems in vehicles.
If you don’t have any of these qualifications please do not use this device and exit the
application immediately!
WARNING
Danger of flashing arcs
Never disconnect wirings while charging or discharging.
Opening the cover stops charging / discharging immediately!
WARNING
Use only the referenced accessories from AVL DiTEST!
WARNING
Use the included mains cord set (power cord)!
If the mains cord set has to be changed note the following requirements strictly!
On 240 V mains grid the mains cord set must be designed for a continuous current of 10 A,
on 120V mains grid the mains cord set must be designed for a continuous current of 20 A.
The mains cord set must have a C19 plug for the connection to the VAS6910 suitable for
the above current ratings.
Connect VAS 6910 only to protective contact sockets!
Set up the VAS 6910 in a way that there is always free access to the power separator!
(Power cord from the mains socket).

WARNING
Do not operate equipment with a damaged cord or if the equipment has been damaged
- until it has been examined by a qualified serviceman.
WARNING
Do not let cord hang over edge of table, bench or counter, or come in contact with hot
manifolds or moving fan blades.
WARNING
An extension cord is not allowed. For testing use only specified cables.
WARNING
To protect against risk of fire, do not operate equipment in the vicinity of open containers of
fuel (gasoline).
WARNING
Adequate ventilation should be provided when working on operating combustion engines.

Risk of explosions
The VAS 6910 has internal parts which emit sparks and therefore must not be exposed to
flammable fumes. The VAS 6910 should be operated at least 460 mm
(18 inches) above the floor surface since fumes from fuels and other materials accumulate
at floor level.
WARNING
When connecting non-VW vehicles
The VAS 6910 is been developed for vehicles from the Volkswagen group.
It must not be used on vehicles from other manufacturers!

WARNING
Set up the VAS 6910 so that adequate ventilation is guaranteed, fans and air vents are not
obstructed and the air must circulate freely!
WARNING
When connecting the cell module, make sure the IR temperature sensor is not
covered and ensure direct visibility between the sensor and the module.
ATTENTION
All measurement cables may only be used within the measurement ranges stipulated in the
technical specifications and the descriptions in the operating manual. Do not carry out
measurements on damaged cables.
ATTENTION
Cleaning
Pull out the DC supply plug before cleaning the VAS 6910. Clean the VAS 6910 only with
a dry cloth. Do not use cleaners or solvents.

IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
1. Read all instructions.
2. Care must be taken as burns can occur from touching hot parts.
3. Do not operate equipment with a damaged cord or if the equipment has
been dropped or damaged - until it has been examined by a qualified
serviceman.
4. Do not let cord hang over edge of table, bench or counter or come in
contact with hot manifolds or moving fan blades.
5. If an extension cord is necessary, a cord with a current rating equal to or
more than that of the equipment should be used. Cords rated for less
current than the equipment may overheat. Care should be taken to
arrange the cord so that it will not be tripped over or pulled.
6. Always unplug equipment from electrical outlet when not in use. Never
use the cord to pull the plug from the outlet. Grasp plug and pull to
disconnect.
7. Let equipment cool completely before putting away. Loop cord loosely
around equipment when storing.
8. To reduce the risk of fire, do not operate equipment in the vicinity of open
containers of flammable liquids (gasoline).
9. Adequate ventilation should be provided when working on operating
internal combustion engines.
10. Keep hair, loose clothing, fingers, and all parts of body away from
moving parts.
11. To reduce the risk of electric shock, do not use on wet surfaces or
expose to rain.
12. Use only as described in the manual. Use only manufacturer´s
recommended attachments.
13. ALWAYS WEAR SAFETY GLASSES. Everyday eyeglasses only have
impact resistant lenses, they are NOT safety glasses.

Warranty and registration
The warranty is 24 months from the first delivery (except for wearing parts) and is only
valid if registration is carried out.
To register, please return the completed registration certificate by fax directly to the AVL
DiTEST- Service Centre in Germany.
A form for the registration certificate is given in /1/, Unpacking Instructions, Start-up, Brief
instructions, Enclosure.
Please also retain your delivery receipt as proof of purchase.
The address, telephone and fax number of the relevant service centre is given in /4/,
Service Information, chapter 3.1 “Regional service centres”.

Temperature compensation
When delivering the VAS 6356 in the winter, the inside of the device must be prevented
from becoming moist. For this reason, we request that you allow the device to stand for
approx. 3 hours at the location from which it is to be operated before connecting it or
switching it on!

Unpack the VAS 6910 and its accessories and check the contents in accordance to
chapter 2.

4 Start-up
4.1 Installation of the DSS software
CAUTION
Please install the DSS-Software before connecting the VAS6910 to your Diagnostic Tester
System!
To install the DSS-Software you will need admin rights!
1. Start up your VW Diagnostic system.
2. a). Installation file was downloaded from AVL DiTEST site:
Double-click the downloaded installation file
Install.VAS6910+6911+6558A_.....exe.
b) Installation file is located on CD/DVD:
Insert CD/DVD into CD/DVD -Drive.
If your computer has autorun enabled, the Installer starts automatically.
Otherwise do a right click on the file „Install...exe“
and choose „Run as administrator“.
3. After unzipping some files you’re the installer shows the program packages which
need to be installed.
Only newer versions will be installed.
Please confirm the selection by pressing Next (Weiter).

4. Exit the installation by clicking on Next.
5. After installation finished please restart your VW Diagnostic system.

CAUTION
Temperature compensation

1. Open the latches (1), (2), (4) and (5) and remove the cover (3).

2. Take the basic device (2) from the transport / adapter case (1) and put it as shown
right beside the case (3).

3. Connect the basic device to the VW Diagnostic system via an USB-cable.
If your diagnostic system has an unused Fischer-connector use USB-cable VAS
611003 (USB 2.0 Rugged auf USB 2.0 B)
Otherwise use the USB-cable VAS 611001 (USB 2.0 A auf USB 2.0 B)
Please make sure that the connector fits correctly and the USB-Rugged connector I
screwed.

4. Connect the power cord to the mains connector (1) and the main plug into the wall
outlet.
WARNUNG
Use only the supplied power cord!
Connect VAS 6910 only to protective contact sockets!

5. Connect the bar code reader to the VW Diagnostic system via USB.
6. The VAS 6910 is ready for operation.

After each update, please have a look for new information.
Viewing and printing an operating manual on the VW tester
Click Start│Program files│DiTEST│VAS6910│VAS6910-Documents.
Click on your language and then on the desired manual.
(the manuals are stored on your hard drive at installation time)
The desired manual is shown using the Adobe Reader.
VAS 6910 Service-Information
Information on regional service center can be found in the manual „Service Information”.
Use the „Fault report FAX“ to report errors. You can find it at the end of the manual
“Service Information”.

5 Brief Instructions
5.1 Installation of the DSS software
Please install the DSS-Software before connecting the VAS6910 to your Diagnostic
Tester System! To install the DSS-Software you will need admin rights!
1. Run the „ Install…..exe“from the delivered CD/DVD.
2. Follow the instructions on the screen.
The DSS-Software will be installed on your VW Diagnostic system.
5.2 Start-up
1. Remove the cover from the transport- / adapter box.
2. Take the basic device from the transport / adapter case and put it as shown right
beside the case
3. Connect the VAS6910 Basic Unit to a free USB Port on your VW Diagnostic system
4. Connect the bar code reader to a free USB port on your VW Diagnostic system.
5. Connect the VAS 6910 to the power grid.
6. Press green key on top of the basic unit.
The power module is switched on.
