Thedevicepasswordistheprimaryprotectionforthedataandservices.Axisdevicesdonotimposeapasswordpolicyastheymaybe
usedinvarioustypesofinstallations.Toprotectyourdatawerecommendthatyou:
•Changethedefaultpasswordthatcomeswiththedevices.
•Useapasswordwithatleast8characterspreferablycreatedbyapasswordgenerator.
•Don’texposethepassword.
•Changepasswordatarecurringintervalatleastonceayear.

Therearedifferentexposuremodeoptionsinthecamerathatadjustsapertureshutterspeedandgaintoimproveimagequalityfor
specicsurveillancescenes.GotoSettings>Image>Exposureandselectbetweenthefollowingexposuremodes:
•FormostusecasesselectAutomaticexposure.
•ForenvironmentswithcertainarticiallightingforexampleuorescentlightingselectFlicker-free.
•Forenvironmentswithcertainarticiallightandbrightlightforexampleoutdoorswithuorescentlightingatnightand
sunduringdaytimeselectFlicker-reduced.
•TolockthecurrentexposuresettingsselectHoldcurrent.

Aviewareaisacroppedpartofthefullview.Youcanstreamandstoreviewareasinsteadofthefullviewtominimizebandwidth
andstorageneeds.IfyouenablePTZforaviewareayoucanpantiltandzoomwithinit.Byusingviewareasyoucanremoveparts
ofthefullviewforexamplethesky.
Whenyousetupaviewareawerecommendyoutosetthevideostreamresolutiontothesamesizeasorsmallerthantheviewarea
size.Ifyousetthevideostreamresolutionlargerthantheviewareasizeitimpliesdigitallyscaledupvideoaftersensorcapture
whichrequiresmorebandwidthwithoutaddingimageinformation.

masksappearasblocksofsolidcolor.
You’llseetheprivacymaskonallsnapshotsrecordedvideoandlivestreams.
YoucanusetheVAPIX®applicationprogramminginterface(API)toturnofftheprivacymasks.

convenientwaytoensurethatthescene’sfocusviewingangleandresolutionareoptimizedwithouthavingtovisitthecamera’s
installationlocation.

Howtoenhancelicenseplaterecognition
Tobetterrecognizethelicenseplateofacarpassingbythecamerayoucanapplyandadjustanumberofthings.
Oneoptionistousethepixelcounterinyourcameratosettheoptimalpixelresolution:
1.GotoSettings>Sstem>Orientationandclick.
2.Adjustthesizeandplacementoftherectangleinthecamera’sliveviewaroundtheareaofinterestforexample
wherethelicenseplatesofpassingcarsareexpectedtoappear.Youcanthenseethenumberofpixelsrepresentedby
thesidesoftherectangle.

Youcanuseanobjectofaknownsizeintheviewasareferencetodecidehowmuchresolutionisneededforrecognition.
Inadditionyoucantrytoadjustthefollowingtooptimizelicenseplaterecognition:
