The L- GAGE LE25 0/ 550 Analog/ Discr et e Laser Sen sor is a visible, b or e- sigh t ed laser disp lacem en t sensor desig ned for
precise, color- insensit ive m easurem ent s. The LE series of sensor s includes m odels cover ing var ious ranges, spot sizes, and
m easurem ent perfor m ance. A 2- line LCD show s the real- tim e dist ance m easurem ent , in either m illim et ers or inches, and
t he analog out put m easurem ent , in m illiam ps or volts, when t he sensor is in Run m ode.

Class 2 lasers are lasers t hat em it visible radiation in t he wavelengt h range from 400
nm t o 700 nm , where eye prot ect ion is norm ally afforded by aver sion responses,
including t he blink reflex. This react ion m ay be expect ed t o provide adequat e
protection under reasonably for eseeable condit ions of operation, including t he use of
opt ical inst rum ent s for int rabeam viewing.

Low - power laser s ar e, by def in it ion , incapable of causing ey e inj u ry w it h in t h e

visible wav elengt hs ( 400 t o 700 nm ) . Therefore, an ocular hazard m ay exist only if
individuals overcom e t heir natural aversion t o bright light and st are direct ly int o the

N OTE: Handle the sensor w it h care during inst allat ion and operat ion. Sensor windows soiled by
finger print s, dust , wat er, oil, et c. m ay creat e st ray light t hat m ay degrade t he peak perfor m ance of t he
sensor. Blow t he w indow clear using filtered, compressed air, t hen clean as necessary using 70%
isopropyl alcohol and cot ton swabs or wat er and a soft clot h.

1. I f a bracket is needed, mount t he sensor ont o t he br acket .
2. Mount the sensor ( or t he sensor and t he bracket ) t o the m achine or equipm ent at t he desired locat ion. Do not
t ight en at t his t im e.
3. Check t he sensor alignm ent .
4. Tighten t he screws to secure the sensor ( or t he sensor and t he br acket ) in the aligned position.

3 Sensor Program m ing
Program the sensor using t he butt ons on t he sensor or t he rem ote input (lim it ed program m ing options) .
From Run m ode, use t he but tons t o access the Quick Menu and t he Sensor Menu. See Quick Menu on page 9 and
Sen sor Menu ( MENU) on page 10 for m ore inform ation on t he options available from each m enu. For TEACH opt ions,
follow t he TEACH inst ruct ions.
I n addition t o program m ing t he sensor, use t he rem ot e input t o disable the butt ons for securit y, preventing unauthorized
or accident al program m ing changes. See Rem ot e I nput on page 10 for m ore infor m at ion.

The sensor includes a Quick Menu w it h easy access to view and change the analog and discret e out put swit ch point s.
Access t he Quick Menu by pressing Dow n or Up from Run m ode. When in t he Quick Menu, t he current dist ance
m easurem ent displays on t he fir st line and t he m enu nam e and t he analog v alue alter nat e on t he second line of t he
display. Press En t e r to access t he switch point s. Press Dow n or Up to change t he switch point t o t he desired
value. Press En t e r to save t he new value and ret urn t o t he Quick Menu.

3 .3 Rem ot e I npu t
Use t he r em ote input t o program t he sensor rem otely . The rem ote input prov ides lim it ed program m ing opt ions and is
Active Low by default . For Act ive Low , connect the gray input wire t o ground ( 0 V dc) , wit h a rem ote swit ch connected
bet ween t he wire and ground. To use t he Act ive High funct ion, configure the sensor for Act ive High using t he but tons on
the sensor, t hen connect t he gray input w ire t o V+ ( 12 t o 30 V dc) . Pulse t he rem ot e input according t o t he diagram and
the instr uct ions provided in t his m anual.
The length of t he individual program m ing pulses is equal t o t he value T: 0 .0 4 se conds ≤T ≤0 .8 seconds.
Exit r em ot e program m ing m odes by holding t he r em ot e input low for > 2 seconds, or w ait ing for t he aut om at ic 60- second
tim eout , or by pressing and holding Esca pe for 2 seconds. The sensor r et urns t o Run m ode wit hout sav ing any new
set t ings.

Use t he lock and unlock feat ure to prevent unauthorized or accident al program m ing changes. A lock sym bol displays in
the upper left corner of t he display t o indicat e when t he sensor is locked. When locked, t he m enus are available t o view
set t ings, but t he values cannot be changed. The rem ote input is also disabled, except for t he unlock funct ion.

The Midpoint TEACH uses both t he window size and t he 12 m A
( 5 V) set point t o det er m ine t he act ual m easurem ent window.
For exam ple, a window of 200 m m with a 12 m A ( 5 V) setpoint
of 600 m m places t he m easurem ent window from 500 m m to
700 m m .
To use t he Midpoint TEACH:
1. Set t he window size using Window Size on page 15.
2. Set t he m easurem ent window using TEACH 12 m A ( 5 V)
on page 16.

release of t he trigger input. For Voltage m odels, t his is 10.5 V.
Hold The Analog Out put holds the last value indefinit ely during a loss of signal. When advanced
m easurem ents are enabled, the last value is held across the t riggered m easurem ent periods.
The Range advanced m easurem ent behavior is affect ed by t he Loss of Signal option. For additional inform at ion on
