Z9i Dual Mic Bluetooth Headset
Firmware Upgrade
1. Preparing for the upgrade
• First shutdown any bluetooth software running on the computer.
• Remove any Bluetooth USB dongle or disable internal Bluetooth if your PC has it.
• The below instructions may differ slightly depending on the Bluetooth software you have on your PC. If you
are running Toshiba or Widcomm software you will need to update the driver temporarily to the ‘CSR
BlueCore’ software to do the upgrade, and then change it back when the upgrade is complete.
• Print out these instructions to make following the upgrade process easier.
• If at any stage you get a window saying, this is not ‘Microsoft Certified’, click ‘Continue Anyway’.
• If at any stage the Upgrade program says that a file is needed to continue the installation, it can be located
in the ‘BlueAnt_Z9i_V1_1_firmware_update’ folder whevever you have placed it. Select ‘Browse’ and point
the directory window to the ‘BlueAnt_Z9i_V1_1_firmware_update’ folder.
• If at any stage your PC’s firewall notifies you of a change to your system settings, ‘allow’ the change or the
Z9i Upgrade will not continue.
• Unzip the downloaded file ‘BlueAnt_Z9i_V1_1_firmware_update.zip’. We recommend you unzip it to your
desktop or a place on your PC that is easily accessable.
2. Installing the Upgrade Software to the PC
2.2) The following screen will be displayed.
Click ‘Next’. Select ‘I accept the license agreement’ and click ‘Next’….
Click ‘Next’ to install into the Destination Folder… Select ‘Typical’ and then again click ‘Next’

To install the DFUWizard upgrade program, open the ‘BlueAnt_Z9i_V1_1_firmware_update’
folder from where you unzipped it to. Next, double click DFUSetup.exe.
Click ‘Yes’ and on the next screen, click Install.
2.5) Click ‘Finish’ if you see the screen below and click ‘Finish’ again to close the Wizard.
3. Upgrading the Z9i Headset firmware
3.1) Click on the Windows Start button
Right click ‘My Computer’ and select ‘Properties’ ‘Hardware’ ‘Device Manager’. Scroll down to Universal
Serial Bus Controllers and click the ‘+’ to view the devices.
Keep this Device Manager window open throughout the following processes so you can monitor device activity.
3.2) Next, plug the supplied USB cable into your PC. Press and Hold ‘VOL UP’ button on the Z9i, and while
holding the button, plug the mini-USB end of the usb cable into the Z9i’s usb port.
Look in the ‘Device Manager’. After a few seconds ‘BlueAnt Z9i in DFU mode’ will appear under ‘Universal Serial
Bus Controllers’ as shown below. When you see it, let go of the two buttons. If it does not appear go to point
3.3.a). If it appears as below go to point 4).

Click ‘Next’ to begin the installation.
Wait while the system is being updated.

If you see the screen below it means your
computer already has the driver file installed.
You can either cancel the installation or select
‘Remove’ then install again.
3.3.b) The ‘Hardware Update Wizard’ will pop up .
Select ‘No, not this time’ and click Next. In the next window select ‘Install from a list…’ and click ‘Next’.
In the next window select ‘Don’t search…’ and click ‘Next’.
3.3.c) Select ‘BlueAnt Z9i in DFU mode’ and click ‘Next’. Wait for the system files to be installed and click
‘Finish’.
Unplug the USB cable and go back to point 3.2) If your PC asks you to locate a file go to 3.3.d).
3.3.a)
You are here because ‘BlueAnt Z9i in DFU
mode’ did not appear under ‘USB Controllers’
when plugging your Z9i into the PC. If you are
using Windows XP SP2, Toshiba or Widcomm
software then you may see ‘Bluetooth Radios’ or
‘Bluetooth USB’ in the Device Manager. Click the
‘+’ to veiw the devices. Right click ‘Generic
Bluetooth Radios’ (or Toshiba or Widcomm) and
select ‘Update Driver’.
3.3.d)
If your PC asks you to locate a file called
‘CSRBC01.sys’, Select Browse and direct it to the
‘BlueAnt_Z9i_V1_1_firmware_update’ folder.
Select ‘CSRBC01.sys’, Click ‘Open’ and ‘OK’.
Unplug the USB cable and go back to point 3.2)

From desktop, click Start Program
CSR DFU Wizard BlueCore
Device Firmware Upgrade Wizard.
5) A Welcome Screen appears.
Click ‘Next’. Select ‘Universal Serial
Bus (USB)’ and Click ‘Next’
7) Your Bluetooth device will change to ‘BlueAnt Z9i in DFU mode’ (see Device Manager).
If successful, the upgrade will proceed. Go to point 10)
If not the ‘Hardware Update Wizard’ will pop up. Select ‘No, not this time’ and click ‘Next’. In the next window
select ‘Install from a list’ and click ‘Next’. In the next window select ‘Don’t search’ and click ‘Next’.

Upgrade Action. Select the first option and click ‘Next’.
Click Browse to go to the
‘BlueAnt_Z9i_V1_1_firmware_update’ folder.
Select ‘BlueAnt_Z9i_V1_1.dfu’ firmware (or newer), and
click ‘Select’.
Click ‘Next’, and again to start upgrading!
9.)
If your PC asks you to
locate a file called
‘CSRBC01.sys’ or
‘CSRBC01.ini’, select
Browse and direct it to the
‘BlueAnt_Z9i_V1_1_firmwa
re_update’ folder.
Select ‘Open’ and ‘OK’.
8.)
Select ‘CSR BlueCore in DFU mode’
and click ‘Next’
10)
The following screen will be displayed.
Wait for the upgrading to be completed.
11)
When done, click Finish to close the program.
Unplug your Z9i and you are ready to go!
