Assembly
Inserting and removing the battery pack
For ins rting and r moving th Bik batt ry pack in/from th
Bik , pl as r ad and obs rv th batt ry pack op rating in-
structions.
Inserting and removing the on-board computer
(see figure A)
To insert th on-board comput r 3, slid it from th front into
th hold r 4.
To remove th on-board comput r 3, pr ss th lock latch 14
and slid th on-board comput r toward th front out of th
hold r 4.

eBike.
It is possibl to s cur th on-board comput r against r mov-
al in th hold r. To do so, r mov th hold r 4 from th han-
dl bar. Put th on-board comput r in th hold r. Scr w th
locking scr w 15 (thr ad M3, 8 mm long) from b low into th
thr ad provid d in th hold r. Mount th hold r back onto th
handl bar.
Operation
Initial Operation
Requirements
Th Bik syst m can only b activat d wh n th following
r quir m nts ar m t:
– A suffici ntly charg d batt ry pack is ins rt d (s batt ry
pack op rating instructions).
– Th on-board comput r is prop rly ins rt d in th hold r
(s “Ins rting and r moving th on-board comput r”,
pag English–1).
– Th sp d s nsor is conn ct d prop rly (s driv unit
op rating instructions).
Switching the eBike System On/Off
Options for switching on th Bik syst m:
– If th on-board comput r is alr ady switch d on wh n you
ins rt it into th hold r, th n th Bik syst m will b
switch d on automatically.
– Wh n th on-board comput r and th Bik batt ry pack
ar ins rt d, bri fly pr ss th On/Off button 5 of th on-
board comput r.
– Wh n th on-board comput r is ins rt d, pr ss th On/Off
button of th Bik batt ry pack (s batt ry pack op rat-
ing instructions).
Th driv is activat d as soon as you st p on th p dals ( x-
c pt for in th push assistanc function or in assistanc l v l
“OFF”). Th motor output d p nds on th s ttings of th as-
sistanc l v l on th on-board comput r. As soon as th sys-
t m is activat d, “Active Line/Performance Line” will ap-
p ar bri fly on th display.
As soon as you stop p daling wh n in normal op ration, or as
soon as you hav r ach d a sp d of 25/45 km/h, th assis-
tanc from th Bik driv is switch d off. Th driv is auto-
matically r -activat d as soon you start p daling again and th
sp d is b low 25/45 km/h.
Options for switching off th Bik syst m:
– Pr ss th On/Off button 5 of th on-board comput r.
– Switch th Bik batt ry pack off by its On/Off button (s
batt ry pack op rating instructions).
– R mov th on-board comput r out of its hold r.
If th Bik is not mov d and no button is pr ss d on th on-
board comput r for 10 minut s, th Bik syst m will shut
down automatically in ord r to sav n rgy.
eShift (optional)
Shift is th int gration of automatic g ar shifting syst ms in-
to th Bik syst m. To support th rid r in th b st way pos-
sibl , th function indications and th basic s ttings m nu
hav b n adapt d for th “eShift” function.
eShift with NuVinci H|Sync
Th optimum g ar for th r sp ctiv sp d is automatically
s t according to a pr -d fin d d sir d cad nc . In manual
mod you can choos b tw n multipl g ars.
In th “ NuVinci Cadence” mod you can us th “–” or
“+” button on th op rating unit to incr as or d cr as th
d sir d cad nc . If you hold down th “–” or “+” button, th
cad nc will incr as or d cr as in st ps of fiv . Th d sir d
cad nc is shown on th display.
In th “ NuVinci Gear” mod you can us th “–” or “+”
button on th op rating unit to switch back and forth b tw n
s v ral d fin d transmission ratios. Th ngag d transmis-
sion ratio (g ar) is shown on th display.
eShift with SRAM DD3 Pulse
Th g ar hub of th SRAM DD3 Puls works on a sp d-d -
p nd nt basis. R gardl ss of which g ar is ngag d on th d -
raill ur g ars, on of th thr g ars of th g ar hub will auto-
matically b ngag d “ Gear: Auto”.
Th ngag d g ar will b shown bri fly on th display wh n-
v r th g ar of th g ar hub is shift d.
If th Bik is brought to a standstill from a sp d of mor
than 10 km/h, th syst m can automatically switch back to a
s t “Start gear”. Th “Start gear” can b s t in th basic s t-
tings m nu (s “Displaying/Adapting Basic S ttings”, pag
English–5).
In th “ Gear” mod you can us th “–” or “+” button on
th op rating unit to switch back and forth b tw n s v ral
d fin d transmission ratios. Th ngag d transmission ratio
(g ar) is shown on th display.
In th “ Gear” manual mod , th syst m can also automati-
cally switch back to a s t “Start gear”.

Displays and configurations of the on-board
computer
Energy supply of the on-board computer
If th on-board comput r is in th hold r 4, a suffici ntly
charg d batt ry pack is ins rt d in th Bik and th Bik
syst m is turn d on, th n th on-board comput r is pow r d
by th batt ry pack of th Bik .
If th on-board comput r is r mov d from th hold r 4, th
n rgy is suppli d via an int rnal batt ry pack. If th int rnal
batt ry pack is w ak wh n th on-board comput r is switch d
on, “Attach to bike” will app ar in t xt indication d for 3 s.
Th on-board comput r will th n turn off again.
To charg th int rnal batt ry pack, put th on-board comput-
r back in th hold r 4 (wh n a batt ry pack is ins rt d in th
Bik ). Switch th Bik batt ry pack on by its On/Off button
(s batt ry pack op rating instructions).
You can also charg th on-board comput r via th USB port.
Op n th prot ctiv cap 8. Conn ct th USB port 7 of th on-
board comput r via a suitabl USB cabl to a standard USB
charg r or th USB port of a comput r (5 V charging voltag ,
max. 500 mA charging curr nt). “USB connected” will ap-
p ar in t xt indication d of th on-board comput r.
Switching on/shutting down the on-board computer
To switch on th on-board comput r, bri fly pr ss th On/Off
button 5. Th on-board comput r can also b switch d on
wh n it is not ins rt d in th hold r (if th int rnal batt ry
pack is suffici ntly charg d).
To switch off th on-board comput r, pr ss th On/Off
button 5.
If th on-board comput r is not ins rt d in th hold r, it
automatically switch s off aft r 1 minut to sav n rgy if no
button is pr ss d.
fIf you do not use your eBike for several weeks, remove
the on-board computer from its holder. Stor th on-
board comput r in a dry nvironm nt at room t mp ratur .
R gularly r charg th on-board comput r’s batt ry pack.
Battery Charge-control Indicator
Th batt ry charg -control indicator i displays th charg l v l
of th Bik batt ry pack, not that of th on-board comput r’s
int rnal batt ry pack. Th charg l v l of th Bik batt ry pack
can also b ch ck d on th LEDs of th batt ry pack its lf.
If th on-board comput r is r mov d from th hold r 4, th
last display d batt ry charg l v l is sav d.
If an Bik is op rat d with two batt ry packs, th batt ry
charg -control indicator i displays th l v l of both batt ry
packs.
If an Bik has two batt ry packs ins rt-
d into it and both batt ry packs ar
charg d on th bik , th charging pro-
gr ss of both batt ry packs will b indi-
cat d on th display (th l ft-hand bat-
t ry pack is b ing charg d in th
illustration). You can t ll by th flashing
indicator on th batt ry pack which of
th two batt ry packs is b ing charg d.
Setting the Assistance Level
On th op rating unit 9 you can s t how much th Bik driv
assists you whil p dalling. Th assistanc l v l can b
chang d at any tim , v n whil cycling.
Note: For individual v rsions, it is possibl that th assistanc
l v l is pr -s t and cannot b chang d. It is also possibl that
l ss assistanc l v ls ar availabl for s l ction than list d h r .
Th following assistanc l v ls (max.) ar availabl :
–“OFF”: Th motor assistanc is switch d off, and th Bik
can b mov d as a normal bicycl only by p dalling. Th
push assistanc cannot b activat d in this assistanc l v l.
–“ECO”: Eff ctiv assistanc at maximum ffici ncy for
maximum cruising rang
–“TOUR”: Uniform assistanc , for touring with long cruising
rang
–“SPORT”: Pow rful assistanc for sportiv riding off road
as w ll as for urban traffic
–“TURBO”: Maximum assistanc , supporting high st ca-
d nc for sportiv riding
To increase th assistanc l v l, pr ss th “+” 1 button on
th op rating unit until th d sir d assistanc l v l app ars in
th display b. To decrease th assistanc l v l, pr ss th
button “–” 11.
Th r qu st d motor output is display d in indicator a. Th
maximum motor output d p nds on th s l ct d assistanc
l v l.
Wh n th on-board comput r is r mov d from th hold r 4,
th last indicat d assistanc l v l is stor d; th motor-output
indicator a r mains mpty.
On indicator i, ach bar of th batt ry pack symbol is quiva-
l nt to a capacity of approx. 20 %:
Th Bik batt ry pack is fully charg d.
Th Bik batt ry pack should b r charg d.
Th LEDs of th charg -control indicator on th bat-
t ry pack xtinguish. Th capacity for assisting th
driv has b n us d up, and assistanc is g ntly
switch d off. Th r maining capacity is mad availa-
bl for th lighting and th on-board comput r. Th
indicator flash s.
Th capacity of th Bik batt ry pack is nough for
about 2 hours of lighting. This do s not account for
oth r consum rs ( .g. automatic g arbox, charging
xt rnal d vic s at th USB port).

Interaction of the eBike System with the Bicycle Gears
Th bicycl g ars should b us d as with a normal bicycl ,
v n with Bik motor assistanc (pl as obs rv th op rat-
ing instructions of your Bik ).
Ind p nd nt of th typ of g aring, it is r comm nd d to
bri fly int rrupt th p daling whil changing g ars. This
mak s changing g ars asi r and r duc s th w ar of th
driv train.
By s l cting th right g ar, you can incr as th sp d and
rang with th sam p daling ffort.
For this r ason, follow th shift r comm ndations provid d
by indications g and h on your display. If indication g is dis-
play d, you should shift to a high r g ar with low r cad nc .
If indication h is display d, you should s l ct a low r g ar with
high r cad nc .
Switching bike lights on/off
In th mod l in which th lighting is pow r d by th Bik sys-
t m, th front and r ar lights can b switch d on and off at th
sam tim via th on-board comput r with button .
Wh n th lighting is switch d on “Lights on” app ars and wh n
th lighting is switch d off “Lights off” app ars for approx. 1 s
in t xt indication d. Th lighting symbol c is display d wh n th
light is on.
Switching th bik light on and off has no ff ct on th back
lighting of th display.
Switching the Push-assistance mode On/Off
Th push-assistanc f atur mak s it asi r to push th
Bik . Th sp d in this function d p nds on th s t g ar and
cannot xc d 6 km/h (max.). Th low r th s t g ar, th low-
r th sp d in th push-assistanc function (at full output).
fThe push-assistance function may only be used when
pushing the eBike. Dang r of injury wh n th wh ls of
th Bik do not hav ground contact whil using th push-
assistanc function.
To activate th push-assistanc function, bri fly pr ss but-
ton “WALK” on your on-board comput r. Aft r activation,
pr ss button “+” within 3 s and k p it pr ss d. Th Bik
driv is switch d on.
Note: Th push assistanc cannot b activat d in th “OFF”
assistanc l v l.
Th push assistanc is switched off as soon as on of th fol-
lowing occurs:
– you r l as button “+” 1 ,
– th wh ls of th Bik ar block d ( .g. by actuating th
brak s or impacting against an obstacl ),
– th sp d xc ds 6 km/h.
Note: On som syst ms th push-assistanc function can b
start d dir ctly by pr ssing th “WALK” button.
Displays and configurations of the on-board
computer
Speed and Distance Indication
Th speed indication f always displays th curr nt sp d.
Th following functions ar availabl in th function indica-
tion (combination of t xt indication d and valu indication e):
–“Clock”: Curr nt tim
–“Max. speed”: Maximum sp d achi v d sinc th last
r s t
–“Avg. speed”: Av rag sp d achi v d sinc th last r s t
–“Trip time”: Trip tim sinc th last r s t
–“Range”: Estimat d rang of th availabl batt ry-pack
charg (for constant conditions such as assistanc l v l,
rout profil , tc.)
–“Odometer”: Display of th total distanc trav ll d with
th Bik (cannot b r s t)
–“ NuVinci Cadence/Gear”: This m nu it m is display d
only in conjunction with a Nu Vinci H|Sync automatic trans-
mission.
If you pr ss th “i” button for long r than 1 s, you will
acc ss th NuVinci m nu it m from any m nu it m in th
information m nu.
To switch from th “ NuVinci Cadence” mod to th
“ NuVinci Gear” mod , pr ss th “i” button for 1 s.
To switch from th “ NuVinci Gear” mod to th
“ NuVinci Cadence” mod , all you hav to do is bri fly
pr ss th “i” button.
Th d fault s tting is “ NuVinci Cadence”.
–“Gear”: This m nu it m app ars only in conjunction with a
Shimano Di g ar hub. Th curr ntly ngag d g ar of th
transmission is shown on th display. Th n wly ngag d
g ar will b shown bri fly on th display wh n v r th g ar
is shift d.
–“ Gear: Auto”: This m nu it m app ars only in conjunc-
tion with an SRAM automatic transmission.
By pr ssing th “i” button for mor than 1 s, you can
switch back and forth b tw n th “ Gear: Auto” auto-
matic mod and th “ Gear” manual mod .

th “–” 11 button to go to th “ Gear: Auto” mod . By
pr ssing th “–” 11 button again, you can switch back to
th manual mod . It is also possibl to acc ss th manual
mod by pr ssing th “+” 1 button.
–“Trip distance”: Distanc cov r d sinc th last r s t
To switch between display functions, pr ss button “i” 1 on
th on-board comput r or button “i” 10 on th op rating unit
r p at dly until th r quir d function is display d.
To reset “Trip distance”, “Trip time” and “Avg. speed”,
switch to any of th thr functions and th n pr ss and hold
th “RESET” button 6 until th indication is s t to z ro. This
also r s ts th valu s of th oth r two functions.
To reset th “Max. speed”, switch to this function and th n
pr ss and hold th “RESET” button 6 until th indication is s t
to z ro.
To reset “Range”, switch to this function and th n pr ss th
“RESET” 6 button until th display is r s t to th valu of th
factory s tting.
If th on-board comput r is r mov d from th hold r 4, all val-
u s of th f atur s ar sav d and can still b display d.
Displaying/Adapting Basic Settings
Th basic s ttings can b display d and chang d r gardl ss
of wh th r th on-board comput r is ins rt d in th hold r 4
or not. Som s ttings ar visibl and chang abl only wh n
th op rating comput r is ins rt d. Som m nu it ms may b
missing d p nding on th quipm nt of your Bik .
To acc ss th basic s ttings m nu, pr ss and hold th
“RESET” button 6 and th “i” button 1 until “Configuration”
is display d in t xt indication d.
To switch between the basic settings, pr ss button “i” 1 on
th on-board comput r r p at dly until th r quir d basic
s tting is display d. If th on-board comput r is ins rt d in
th hold r 4, you can also pr ss button “i” 10 on th op rat-
ing unit.
To change the basic settings, pr ss th On/Off button 5 n xt
to indication “–” to r duc or scroll down, or th lighting but-
ton n xt to indication “+” to incr as or scroll up.
If th on-board comput r is ins rt d in th hold r 4, it is also
possibl to chang using buttons “–” 11 and “+” 1 on th
op rating unit.
To xit th function and sav a chang d s tting, pr ss th
“RESET” button 6 for 3 s.
Th following basic s ttings ar availabl :
–“– Clock +”: Th curr nt tim can b s t h r . Pr ssing
and holding th s tting buttons fast-forwards th s tting
sp d.
–“– Wheel circum. +”: You can chang this valu pr -s t by
th manufactur r by ± 5 %. This m nu it m is display d on-
ly wh n th on-board comput r is in th hold r.
–“– English +”: You can chang th languag of th t xt indi-
cations. You can choos b tw n G rman, English, Fr nch,
Spanish, Italian, Portugu s , Sw dish, Dutch and Danish.
–“– Unit km/mi +”: Th sp d and distanc can b dis-
play d ith r in kilom tr s or mil s.
–“– Time format +”: Th tim can b display d ith r in th
12 hour or 24 hour format.
–“– Shift recom. on/off +”: You can switch th indication
of a shift r comm ndation on and off.
–“Power-on hours”: Indicat s th total trav l duration with
th Bik (not chang abl ).
–“Gear calibration” (only NuVinci H|Sync): H r you can
calibrat th continuously variabl transmission. Confirm
th calibration by pr ssing th “Bik lights” button. Th n
follow th instructions.
In th v nt of an rror, it can also b n c ssary to p rform
calibration wh n riding. In this cas , you also confirm th
calibration by pr ssing th “Bik lights” button and th n
follow th instructions on th display.
This m nu it m is display d only wh n th on-board com-

–“– Start gear +”: Th starting g ar can b s t h r . Th au-
tomatic shift-back function is switch d off in th “––” posi-
tion. This m nu it m is display d only in conn ction with
SRAM DD3 Puls and Shimano Di2. This m nu it m is dis-
play d only wh n th on-board comput r is in th hold r.
–“Gear adjustment”: This m nu it m can b us d to p r-
form fin adjustm nt of th Shimano Di2. Th pr -d fin d
adjustm nt rang can b found in th op rating instruc-
tions provid d by th transmission manufactur r. P rform
fin adjustm nt as soon as you h ar unusual sounds com-
ing from th transmission. This will pr v nt pr matur
w ar of th transmission and also avoid any impairm nts in
g ar shifting b haviour which could caus you to fall in ad-
v rs situations. This m nu it m is display d only in con-
junction with Shimano Di2. This m nu it m is display d
only wh n th on-board comput r is in th hold r.
–“Displ. vx.x.x.x”: This is th softwar v rsion of th display.
–“DU vx.x.x.x”: This is th softwar v rsion of th driv
unit. This m nu it m is display d only wh n th on-board
comput r is in th hold r.
–“DU # xxxxxxxxx”: This is th s rial numb r of th driv
unit. This m nu it m is display d only wh n th on-board
comput r is in th hold r.
–“ Service MM/YYYY”: This m nu it m is display d
wh n th bik manufactur r has s t a fix d s rvic ap-
pointm nt.
–“ Serv. xx km/mi”: This m nu it m is display d wh n
th bik manufactur r has s t a fix d s rvic appointm nt
aft r a c rtain mil ag has b n r ach d.
–“Bat. vx.x.x.x”: This is th softwar v rsion of th batt ry
pack. This m nu it m is display d only wh n th on-board
comput r is in th hold r.
–“1. Bat. vx.x.x.x”: Wh n using 2 batt ry packs this is th

Safety Notes
Read all safety warnings and all instruc-
tions. Failure to follow the warnings and in-
structions may result in electric shock, fire
and/or serious injury.
Save all safety warnings and instructions for future
reference.
The term “battery” is used in these instructions to mean all
original Bosch eBike rechargeable battery packs.
fDo not open the drive unit yourself. The drive unit must
be repaired only by qualified experts and only with
original spare parts. This will ensure that the safety of the
drive unit is maintained. Unauthorised opening of the drive
unit will void warranty claims.
fAll components mounted to the drive unit and all other
components of the eBike drive (e.g., the chainwheel,
chainwheel seat, pedals) may be replaced only with
identical components or components specifically
approved for your eBike by the bicycle manufacturer.
This protects the drive unit against overload and damage.
fRemove the battery pack from the eBike before begin-
ning work (e.g. inspection, repair, assembly, mainte-
nance, work on the chain, etc.) on the eBike, transport-
ing it by car or plane, or storing it. Unintentional
activation of the eBike system poses a risk of injury.
fThe eBike system can switch itself on when the eBike is
pushed backwards.
fThe push-assistance function may only be used when
pushing the eBike. Danger of injury when the wheels of
the eBike do not have ground contact while using the push-
assistance function.
fWhen the push-assistance function is activated, the
pedals turn at the same time. When the push-assistance
function is activated, make sure that there isenough space
between your legs and the turning pedals. There is a risk of
injury.
fUse only original Bosch battery packs approved for
your eBike by the manufacturer. Using other battery
packs can lead to injuries and pose a fire hazard. When
using other battery packs, Bosch shall not assume any
liability and warranty.
fAfter a ride, do not allow your unprotected hands or
legs to come into contact with the aluminium housing
of the drive unit. Under extreme conditions, such as con-
tinuously high torques at low travel speeds, or when riding
up hills or carrying loads, very high temperatures may be
reached on the aluminium housing.
The temperatures that may be reached at the drive unit
housing are influenced by the following factors:
– Ambient temperature
– Ride profile (route/gradient)
–Rideduration
–Assistancemodes
– User behaviour (personal effort)
– Total weight (rider, eBike, luggage)
– Motor cover on the drive unit
– Heat dissipation properties of the bicycle frame
– Type of drive unit and type of gear-shifting
fDo not make any modifications to your eBike systemor
fit any other products which would be suitable for in-
creasing the performance of your eBike system. This
normally reduces the lifetime of the system and risks
damage to the drive unit and the bike. There is also a risk of
losing the guarantee and warranty claims on the bike you
have purchased. By handling the system improperly you
are also endangering your safety and that of other road
users, thus running the risk of high personal liability costs
and possibly even criminal prosecution in the event of
accidents attributable to manipulation.
fPlease observe all national regulations on registering
and using eBikes.
fRead and observe the safety warnings and instructions
in all operating instructions of the eBike system and in
the operating instructions of your eBike.

Assembly
Inserting and removing the battery pack
For inserting and removing the eBike battery pack in/from the
eBike, please read and observe the battery pack operating
instructions.
Checking the Speed Sensor (see figure A)
The speed sensor 2and its spoke magnet 3must be mounted
in such a manner that the spoke magnet, after a turn of the
wheel, moves past the speed sensor with a clearance of at
least 5 mm, yet no more than 17 mm.
Note: If the distance between speed sensor 2and spoke
magnet 3is too small or too large, or if the speed sensor 2is
not properly connected, the speed indication will fail, and the
eBike drive unit will operate in emergency mode.
In this case, loosen the screw of the spoke magnet 3and
fasten the spoke magnet to the spoke in such a manner that it
runs past the mark of the speed sensor at the correct clear-
ance. If the speed is still not being indicated in the speed indi-
cation after this, please contact an authorised bicycle dealer.
Operation
Initial Operation
Requirements
The eBike system can only be activated when the following
requirements are met:
– A sufficiently charged battery pack is inserted (see battery
pack operating instructions).
– The on-board computer is properly inserted in the holder
(see on-board computer operating instructions).
– The speed sensor is connected properly (see “Checking
the Speed Sensor”, page English–2).
Switching the eBike System On/Off
Options for switching on the eBike system:
– If the on-board computer is already switched on when you
insert it into the holder, then the eBike system will be
switched on automatically.
– With the on-board computer and the eBike battery pack
inserted, briefly press the On/Off button of the on-board
computer (see on-board computer operating instruc-
tions).
– With the on-board computer inserted, push the On/Off
button on the eBike battery (bicycle manufacturer solu-
tions are possible whereby there is no access to the
battery On/Off button; see the battery operating instruc-
tions).
The drive is activated as soon as you step on the pedals
(except when in the push aid feature, see “Switching the
Push-assistance mode On/Off”, page English–3). The motor
output depends on the settings of the assistance level on the
on-board computer.
As soon as you stop pedaling when in normal operation, or as
soon as you have reached a speed of 25 km/h, the assistance
from the eBike drive is switched off. The drive is automatically
re-activated as soon you start pedaling again and the speed is
below 25 km/h.
Options for switching off the eBike system:
– Press the On/Off button of the on-board computer.
– Switch off the eBike battery using its On/Off button
(bicycle manufacturer-specific solutions are possible
whereby there is no access to the battery On/Off button;
see the bicycle manufacturer operating instructions).
– Remove the on-board computer out of its holder.
If the eBike is not moved and no button is pressed on the
on-board computer for 10 minutes, the eBike system will shut
down automatically in order to save energy.
eShift (optional)
eShift is the integration of electronic gear shifting systems in-
to the eBike system. The eShift components are electrically
connected to the drive unit by the manufacturer. The separate
operating instructions describe how to operate the electronic
gear-shifting systems.

Setting the Assistance Level
On the on-board computer you can set how much the eBike
drive assists you while pedalling. The assistance level can be
changed at any time, even while cycling.
Note:For individual versions, it is possible that the assistance
level is pre-set and cannot be changed. It is also possible that
less assistance levels are available for selection than listed
here.
The following assistance levels (max.) are available:
–“OFF”: The motor assistance is switched off, and the eBike
can be moved as a normal bicycle only by pedalling. The
push assistance cannot be activated in this assistance
level.
–“ECO”: Effective assistance at maximum efficiency for
maximum cruising range
–“TOUR”: Uniform assistance, for touring with long cruising
range
–“SPORT”: Powerful assistance for sportive riding off road
as well as for urban traffic
–“TURBO”: Maximum assistance, supporting highest
cadence for sportive riding
The motor output requested appears on the display of the on-
board computer. The maximum motor outputdepends on the
selected assistance level.
Switching the Push-assistance mode On/Off
The push-assistance feature makes it easier to push the
eBike. The speed in this function depends on the set gear and
cannot exceed 6 km/h (max.). The lower the set gear, the low-
er the speed in the push-assistance function (at full output).
fThe push-assistance function may only be used when
pushing the eBike. Danger of injury when the wheels of
the eBike do not have ground contact while using the push-
assistance function.
To activate the push-assistance function, briefly press
button “WALK” on your on-board computer. After activation,
press button “+” within 3 s and keep it pressed. The eBike
drive is switched on.
Note: The push assistance cannot be activated in the “OFF”
assistance level.
The push assistance is switched off as soon as one of the
following occurs:
– You release the “+” button;
– The wheels of the eBike are prevented from turning (e.g.
by braking or being hit by your leg);
– The speed exceeds 6 km/h.
Note: On some systems the push-assistance function can be
started directly by pressing the “WALK” button.
Depending on the statutory specifications in some countries,
the push-assistance function may vary by region.
Switching bike lights on/off
In the version which has the bike lights powered by the eBike
system, the front and rear lights can be switched on and off at
the same time via the on-board computer.
Notes on Riding with the eBike System
When does the eBike Drive Unit Operate?
The eBike drive unit assists you when riding, as long as you
step into the pedals. Without pedaling, there is no assistance.
The motor output always depends on the amount of your
pedaling power.
When applying less pedalingpower, the assistance or support
will be lower than when applying a lot of pedaling power. This
applies independent of the assistance Level.
The eBike drive automatically switches off at speeds in excess
of 25 km/h. When the speed falls below 25 km/h, the drive is
automatically available again.
An exception applies to the push-assistance function, in
which the eBike can be pushed at low speed without pedal-
ling. The pedals may also rotate when the push assistance is
used.
The eBike can also be ridden as a normal bicycle without as-
sistance at any time, by either switching off the eBike system
or setting the assistance level to “OFF”. The same applies
when the battery pack is empty.
Interaction of the eBike System with the Bicycle Gears
The bicycle gears should be used as with a normal bicycle,
even with eBike motor assistance (please observe the operat-
ing instructions of your eBike).
Independent of the type of gearing, it is recommended to
briefly interrupt the pedaling while changing gears. This
makes changing gears easier and reduces the wear of the
drive train.
By selecting the right gear, you can increase the speed and
range with the same pedaling effort.

Gathering First Experience
It is recommended to gather first experience with the eBike
away from roads with heavy traffic.
Test the various assistance levels. Start with the lowest assis-
tance level. As soon as you feel confident, you can ride your
eBike in traffic like any other bike.
Test the operating range of your eBike under different condi-
tions before planning longer and more challenging rides.
Influences on the Operating Range
The range is affected by a number of factors, such as:
– Assistance level
–Speed
–Gearchangingbehaviour
– Tyre type and tyre pressure
– Age and condition of the battery
– Route profile (gradients) and conditions (road surface)
– Headwind and ambient temperature
– Weight of eBike, driver and luggage.
For this reason, it is not possible to precisely predict the
range before and during a trip. General rules:
–Withthesame assistance level on the eBike drive: The less
energy you need to exert in order to reach a certain speed
(e.g. by changing gears optimally), the less energy the
eBike drive will consume and the higher the range per
battery charge will be.
–Thehigher the assistance level under otherwise same
conditions, the lower the range.
Careful Handling of the eBike
Please observe the operating and storage temperatures of the
eBike components. Protect the drive unit, on-board computer
and battery against extreme temperatures (e.g. from intense
sunlight without adequate ventilation). The components
(especially the battery pack) can become damaged through
extreme temperatures.
Maintenance and Service

When changing the bulbs, ensure that the bulbs are com-
patible with the Bosch eBike system (ask your bicycle dealer)
and that the specified voltage matches. Bulbs must be
replaced only with bulbs of the same voltage.
Do not immerse any components, including the drive unit, in
water or clean them with pressurised water.
Have your eBike system checked by an expert at least once a
year (including mechanical parts, up-to-dateness of system
software).
For service or repairs on the eBike, please refer to an author-
ised bicycle dealer.

Safety Notes
Read all safety warnings
and all instructions. Failure
to follow the warnings and in-
structions may result in elec-
tric shock, fire and/or serious
injury.
Save all safety warnings and instructions for future
reference.
The term “battery pack” used in these operating instructions
refers both to standard battery packs (battery packs with
holder on the bike frame) and to rack-type battery packs (bat-
tery packs with holder in the rear rack/carrier), except when
explicitly referring to the design type.
fRemove the battery pack from the eBike before begin-
ning work (e.g. inspection, repair, assembly, mainte-
nance, work on the chain, etc.) on the eBike, transport-
ing it by car or plane, or storing it. Unintentional
activation of the eBike system poses a risk of injury.
fDo not open the battery pack. Danger of short-circuiting.
Opening the battery pack voids any and all warranty claims.
Protect the battery against heat (e.g. pro-
longed sun exposure) and fire and from being
submerged in water. Do not store or operate
the battery near hot or flammable objects.
There is a risk of explosion.
fKeep the battery pack not being used away from paper
clips, coins, keys, nails, screws or other small metal
objects, that can make a connection from one terminal
to another. Shorting the battery-pack terminals together
may cause burns or a fire. For short-circuiting damage
caused in this manner, any and all warranty claims through
Bosch shall be invalid.
fDo not place the charger or battery pack near to flam-
mable materials. Charge battery packs only when dry
and in a fireproof area. There is a risk of fire due to the
heat generated during charging.
fThe eBike battery must not be left unattended while
charging.
fUnder abusive conditions, liquid may be ejected from
the battery pack. Avoid contact. If contact accidentally
occurs, flush with water. If liquid contacts eyes, addi-
tionally seek medical help. Liquid ejected from the bat-
tery pack may cause skin irritations or burns.
fBattery packs must not be subjected to mechanical
impacts. There is a risk that the battery pack will be dam-
aged causing vapours to escape. The vapours can irritate
the respiratory system. Provide for fresh air and seek med-
ical attention in case of complaints.
fThe battery may give off fumes if it becomes damaged
or is used incorrectly. Provide a fresh air supply and
seek medical advice in the event of pain or discomfort.
These fumes may irritate the respiratory tract.
fCharge the battery pack only with original Bosch bat-
tery chargers. When using non-original Bosch chargers,
the danger of fire cannot be excluded.
fUse the battery pack only together with eBikes that
have an original Bosch eBike drive system. This is the
only way to protect the battery pack against dangerous
overload.
fUse only original Bosch battery packs approved for
your eBike by the manufacturer. Using other battery
packs can lead to injuries and pose a fire hazard. When
using other battery packs, Bosch shall not assume any lia-
bility and warranty.
fDo not use the rack-type battery pack as a handle. Lift-
ing the eBike up by the battery pack can cause damage to
the battery pack.
fRead and observe the safety warnings and instructions
in all operating instructions of the eBike system and in
the operating instructions of your eBike.
fKeep the battery pack out of reach of children.
