2.6 Product-specific safety instructions
WARNING
Easily inflammable hydraulic fluid!
In connection with a potentially explosive atmosphere or other heat sources,
leaking hydraulic fluid mist due to defective or incompletely installed manifold
blocks and their connections may lead to explosions.
▶ Only use the manifold block in the explosion protection area intended for it.
▶ The ignition temperature of the hydraulic fluid used must be 50 K higher than
the maximum surface temperature (200 °C).
▶ Use only hydraulic fluids that are approved for the manifold block.
Risk of explosion as a result of electrostatic discharging processes!
When hydraulic fluids with low electrical conductivity are used, electrostatic
charging of the hydraulic fluid may occur, especially during filtering.
▶ To prevent hazardous electrostatic discharging, an electrical conductivity of the
hydraulic fluid of at least 300 pS/m has to be envisaged.
▶ Take appropriate measures for dimensioning and designing hydraulic
components such as pipes, filters and tanks so that hazardous electrostatic
discharges of the hydraulic fluid can be ruled out.
▶ Ground all electrically conductive system parts!
Exceedance of the maximum temperatures!
Using the manifold block outside the approved temperature ranges may lead to
malfunction. This means that explosion protection is no longer ensured.
▶ Only use the manifold block within the specified ambient and hydraulic fluid
temperature range.
▶ The max. permissible temperature of 80 °C of the hydraulic fluid must not be
exceeded.
▶ Comply with the admissible ambient temperature range of –20 °C to +50 °C.
▶ The manifold block must not be directly exposed to radiated heat.
Explosion hazard caused by spark formation due to foaming hydraulic fluid!
Foaming hydraulic fluid could contain a potentially explosive atmosphere that can
be ignited by a mechanical spark.
▶ Prevent foaming of the hydraulic fluid.
▶ Monitor the level of hydraulic fluid in the tank.
▶ Prevent the ingress of air into the hydraulic system.
▶ Route return lines below the minimum oil level back to the tank.
Non-compliance with functional safety!
Manifolds control movements in machines or systems. In the case of mechanical
and electrical faults, e.g. failure of the power supply, persons may get caught,
hurled or crushed by the installation due to incorrect activation and unexpected
starting.
▶ When setting up your circuit, observe functional safety, e.g. according to EN ISO
13849.
▶ If necessary, fit light barriers or safety guards.
▶ Replace defective components immediately.

Safety instructions 13/40
RE 62272-B/03.19, Manifold block type AGEV1-48404-AA/HM/L01H01-XC, Bosch Rexroth AG
WARNING
System parts under pressure and ejecting hydraulic fluid!
When working on hydraulic systems with stored pressure energy (accumulator or
cylinders working under gravity), hydraulic blocks may even be pressurized after the
pressure supply has been switched off. During mounting and demounting, built-on
or attached components may be hurled around and cause personal injuries and/
or damage to property. There is moreover the risk of serious injury caused by a
powerful, ejecting hydraulic fluid jet.
▶ Before working on the hydraulic product ensure that the hydraulic system is
depressurized and the electrical control de-energized.
▶ Completely unload the pressure of machines and systems before working on
hydraulic products.
▶ Secure the system against restarting.
High pressure!
Risk of injury caused by oil jet and parts ejected under pressure due to rupture of
the a system component.
▶ Shut the system down when an oil jet is ejecting and replace damaged
components.
▶ Limit the pressure in the system by means of an overpressure element.
▶ Direct the tank line freely to the tank without narrowing in the cross-section and
without any shut-off feature.
▶ Use hydraulic lines and connections in accordance with the maximum operating
pressure.
▶ Never disconnect, open or cut pressurized lines or remove pressurized
components!
▶ Switch the system off before mounting or carrying out any other work on
manifolds.
Leakage in case of incorrect operating temperatures!
Using manifolds outside the temperatures they are designed for may lead to
permanent leakage of the hydraulic valves. Thus, hydraulic fluid in the form of an
ejecting hydraulic fluid jet may injure persons, lead to damage to property and
endanger the environment.
▶ Use manifolds only at the ambient and fluid temperatures specified for them.
▶ In case of leakage, immediately exchange damaged seal rings or the hydraulic
valve.
Explosion hazard due to lack of equipotential bonding!
Electrostatic processes, an incorrect earthing concept or a lack of equipotential
bonding may lead to an explosion. Apart from this, malfunctions or uncontrolled
movements at the machine may be caused!
▶ Provide for correct earthing and provide for proper equipotential bonding. The
connection point for equipotential bonding is marked on the assembly drawing
of the manifold.
▶ The console on which the manifold is mounted must be included in equipotential
bonding according to EN 60079-14 and IEC 60364-4-41.

CAUTION
Leaking hydraulic fluid!
Hydraulic fluid may leak during mounting and demounting of hydraulic components.
Consequently, persons may slip or fall.
▶ Only remove protective caps from hydraulic blocks directly prior to their
installation.
▶ After mounting, provide the hydraulic fluid-carrying bores with suitable plug
elements.
▶ Immediately remove spilled hydraulic fluid and dispose of it properly.
Harmful hydraulic fluid!
Health hazard caused by contact with hydraulic oil (e.g. eye injury, skin damage,
intoxication upon inhalation and swallowing).
▶ Inspect hydraulic components and lines regularly for wear and damage.
▶ When carrying out work that involves contact with hydraulic oil, wear protective
gloves, safety glasses and suitable working clothes.
▶ If nevertheless hydraulic fluid comes into contact with the eyes or penetrates
the skin, consult a doctor immediately.
▶ When handling hydraulic fluids, strictly observe the safety notes of the hydraulic
fluid manufacturer.
Hot surfaces!
Manifold blocks may reach high temperatures during operation. This may lead to
burns in case of skin contact.
▶ Avoid contact with the manifold block during operation.
▶ Let manifold blocks cool down before touching them or wear protective gloves.
▶ If necessary, attach protective covers.
Contaminated hydraulic fluid!
Contamination in the hydraulic fluid may cause functional failures e.g. jamming or
clogging of nozzles or components on the manifold block. In the worst case, this
may result in unexpected system movements and thus constitute a risk of injury.
▶ Ensure adequate hydraulic fluid cleanliness according to the cleanliness classes
of the manifold block over the entire operating range.
▶ Flush the hydraulic system, if required.

1.1.4 Explosion protection marking
According to EU Directive 1999/92/EC, the user/machine end-user has to classify
potentially explosive areas into zones. The following table shows the corresponding
zones for equipment groups and categories.
The manifold block may only be used in the areas and zones which correspond to the
relevant equipment group and category.

20/40 About this product
Bosch Rexroth AG, Manifold block type AGEV1-48404-AA/HM/L01H01-XC, RE 62272-B/03.19
The classification is based on the maximum gap width determined in experiments or
on the minimum ignition current ratio for the explosive atmosphere in which
equipment may be installed (see IEC 60079-20-1).
Explosion group IIA contains the less hazardous substances, explosion group IIC the
most hazardous substances. Products intended for a particular explosion group may
always also be used in less dangerous zones.
Tabelle 6: Examples of the classification of gasses, mists and steams into explosion groups
Explosion group Examples of gasses, mists and vapors Hazardousness
IIA Acetone, ammonia, gasoline, benzene, carbon oxide,
ethanol, methane, hydrogen sulfide, propane

IIB Ethylene, city gas, acetaldehyde High
IIC Hydrogen, carbon disulfide, acetylene Very high
Please note that in areas which are potentially explosive due to explosive gasses,
mists or vapors (zone 0, 1, 2 for which equipment group II, categories 1G, 2G and
3G are provided), the maximum surface temperature of the manifold block must in
addition be below the ignition temperature of the surrounding explosive gas, mist or
vapor.
Based on their maximum surface temperature, these hydraulic products are
classified according to EN 80079-36 and EN 60079-0 into temperature classes T1
to T6. With hydraulic products of equipment group II and in categories 1G, 2G and
3G, the temperature class is an integral part of the explosion protection mark.It
provides information on the suitability of the hydraulic product for use in a particular
potentially explosive atmosphere due to explosive gasses, mists or vapors.
Tabelle 7: Temperature classes for equipment group II
Temperature class Permissible maximum surface temperature
T1 450°C
T2 300°C
