Introduction
The CANNON Densi-H is a portable measuring instrument suited for
determining the density of liquids. The instrument uses the oscillating body
method. To fill the measuring cell the built-in sample pump or a syringe
may be used. The results are automatically calculated into one of the
following units: density, specific gravity, volume correction, API degrees,
Brix, % Alcohol, % H2SO4, °Baumé, °Plato, Proof or a user-defined unit. The
value is then shown on the backlit display. For exact measurements, it is
imperative to correct the temperature’s influence on the density.
Depending on the selected unit the Densi-H carries out this result
correction automatically.
For this task, the instrument uses either internally-stored tables or one of
the 10 temperature-compensation coefficients entered by the user.
The results, along with the sample identification, temperature,
temperature-coefficient, date and time can be saved. Together with the
instrument identification they can then, via the integrated infrared
interface, be transferred to the computer or printed out on a printer.

The instrument has been developed for operation in a well-ventilated area.
Avoid the following environmental influences:
•Conditions outside of the ambient conditions specified in the
technical data
•Powerful vibrations
•Direct sunlight
•High humidity
•Corrosive gas atmosphere
•Explosive atmosphere of gases, steam, fog, dust and flammable
dust
•Powerful electric or magnetic fields
•Only ambient temperatures between -20 °C and 70 °C

1. Open the battery compartment cover on the back of the Densi-H.
2. Remove battery compartment.
3. Insert batteries into the battery compartment, observing correct
polarity.
4. Insert battery compartment, ensuring that the contacts of the battery
compartment face the instrument.
5. Close battery compartmentcover.
The instrument switches on automatically and is immediately ready for
operation. With the backlighting switched off the battery lasts about 90
hours.
If nothing appears in the display, check the polarity of the batteries and
battery compartment.
Configuration
Use the following procedure to configure the instrument for test
measurement.

a. Press the keys ok and esc simultaneously. The instrument switches
to the FUNCTION menu. Measure Unit appears in reverse display
(white on black).
2. Select setting
a. Press the okkey. The Measure Unit menu is confirmed.
b. Pressthe down arrow key repeatedly until SG (t/t) is marked.
c. Press the ok key. SG(t/t)isconfirmed.
3. Set date and time
a. Pressthe down arrow key repeatedly until Date&Time is marked.
b. Press the okkey. The Date&Time menu is confirmed. Date is
marked.
c. Press the okkey.
d. Use the side arrows to select the number to change, and use the up
and down arrows to change the value.
e. Press the okkey. The Date is set.
f. Usethe down arrow key to switch to Time and confirm by pressing
ok.
g. Set the time as described above, using the side arrows to change
the value. The Time is now set.
4. Exit the menu
a. Press the esc key. The instrument is configured for test
measurement.

1. Push drain button down completely. Shown as item number 3 in Figure
5.
2. Ensure that the sample tube is located in the accompanying density
standard or in distilled water.
3. Press the fill button slowly to fill the measuring cell. Refer to item
number 12 in Figure 5.
4. Ensure there are no air bubbles contained within the measuring cell.
5. Press the meas. key.
6. The instrument automatically executes a measurement and the result
appears in reverse display (white on black).
The result for water must be 1.000 in the selected measurement unit SG
(t/t).
Note:
•If the deviation is ≤ 0.0005, then Adjustment is ok and the
instrument is ready for measurement.
•If the deviation is > 0.0005, adjust instrument. Refer to section
Adjustment (cal). You must be in the expert mode to perform a
water calibration.

Adjustment
You must be in expert mode to perform a water calibration.
1. Press and hold the down arrow key until CALIB (Water) appears on
the display. The instrument adjusts automatically (duration is
approximately 1 minute).
2. After adjustment is completed, the measured deviation from the
theoretical value and Execute? (No)appears.
3. Press the up or down keys.
4. Execute? (Yes)appears in display. Press the ok key. The adjustment is
confirmed.
Cleaning
Clean the measuring cell daily with a suitable cleaning liquid. The built-in
sample pump or an external syringe can be used to fill the measuring cell
with cleaning liquid. Use the following procedure to clean the measuring
cell.
1. Press the drain button down completely to empty the measuring cell.
2. Press the fill button to fill the measuring cell with cleaning liquid.
3. For very dirty measuring cells, let the inside of the cell soak in the
cleaning liquid.
4. Repeat cleaning if necessary.
5. If the housing is soiled, clean with a cleaning tissue or wipe.
Switch Off and On
Switching Off
Press and hold the esc key until the display is turned off.
The instrument is now turned off.
Switching On
Press and hold the esc key until the display appears.
The instrument is on and ready for operation.

Enter the Menu
To enter the menu function, press the ok and esc keys simultaneously. The
instrument display switches to the menu as shown in Figure 6.
