1. Introduction
The Canon imagePRESS V900/V800/V700 Customer Expectations Document
contains information about the features and capabilities of the Canon imagePRESS
V900/V800/V700. This document should be used as part of the presale and
preinstallation planning processes to help clarify the requirements and
responsibilities associated with supporting, owning, and operating the imagePRESS
V900V800/V700. It is also recommended that those interested in purchasing the
imagePRESS V900/V800/V700 have, and familiarize themselves with, the
information in this document prior to making their purchase.

2. Product Overview
The Canon imagePRESS V900/V800/V700 machines are digital, color presses with
a small-footprint engine, and bring the following capabilities to users in a light
production, color environments:
•Prints in speeds up to 90 ppm (pages-per-minute), 81 ppm, or 71 ppm (LTR (up
to 220 g/m2) in color and black-and-white, simplex), depending on the model
purchased.
•The imagePRESS V900 Series can be configured with these print controllers:
oimagePRESS P400 Server
oimagePRESS N500 Server
•Comes standard with a Duplex Color Image Reader Unit-P1 with scanning
speeds of up to 160 sheets-per-minute (duplex, black-and-white, at 600 dpi) and
up to 90 sheets-per-minute (duplex, full color, at 600 dpi), and 300-sheet capacity.
•A finishing option, such as a staple or booklet finisher, high capacity stacker,
output tray, professional puncher, document insertion unit, paper folding unit, or
booklet trimmer must be attached to the machine.
•A maximum standard paper size of 13” x 19.2” (in the Main Unit Paper Cassettes)
is supported.
•A maximum long-sheet paper size of 13” x 51.2” (fed one sheet at a time) is
supported from the Stack Bypass-D1 (with the Long Sheet Feeding and Catch
Tray-B1 and Stack Bypass Tray-D1). A maximum long-sheet paper size of 13” x
30” is supported from the optional POD Deck Lite XL-A2.
•Support for 350 g/m2 Heavy Paper.
•Support for synthetic media (polypropylene and polyester)
•Supports an Advanced Automation Module to adjust and monitor color accuracy
and front-to-back registration.

2.2 High-Resolution Imaging System
The imagePRESS V900/V800/V700 provides a high-resolution imaging system.
This system renders images at a 2,400 x 2,400 dpi print resolution (600 x 600 dpi
maximum for long sheets only), which delivers the highest level of speed and image
quality. Object-optimized imaging also helps to achieve superior print quality. Text
and lines are processed with a high priority given to resolution, and images and
graphics are processed with a high priority given to gradation. This high-resolution
imaging system coupled with the Density Fine Adjustment mode, a feature that
refines thin, fine text, and lines while the device is rendering images at 2,400 x 2,400
dpi, minimizes faint output and delivers quality prints.

2.3 Image Stabilization Control
The quality of printed images is affected by changes in the environment, such as
temperature and humidity, in which the machine is installed. It is also affected by the
deterioration of image formation parts through extended use. The imagePRESS
V900/V800/V700 minimizes these issues, stabilizes image production, and
maintains color consistency with features, such as Automatic
Real-Time Multiple Density Patch Calibration, Auto Gradation Adjustment, and Auto
Correct Color Tone.
2.3.1 Automatic Real-Time Multiple Density Patch Calibration
Real-Time Density Patch Calibration helps to maintain color consistency by
making automatic, real-time adjustments during print runs without operator
intervention.
2.3.2 Automatic Gradation Adjustment
Automatic Gradation Adjustment is a function that helps to automatically adjust
toner density. Select from two modes:
•SAPT (Same for All Paper Types) – customers only need to execute the
automatic gradation adjustment for one media type, and then the machine
automatically adjusts for the other two process speeds.
•BPTG (By Paper Type Groups) – execute automatic gradation adjustment for all
three process speeds, if necessary.
Customers can also register custom media for the automatic gradation adjustment,
if they cannot prepare the Canon recommended calibration paper (Hammermill
Color Copy Digital 28 lb). For more information on the Automatic Gradation
Adjustment modes, see “Adjustment for Image Quality and Finishing (Calibration),”
in the e-Manual included with the machine.
2.3.3 Auto Correct Color Tone
ACCT (Auto Correct Color Tone) is a unique Canon technology that creates a
correction value to enhance color consistency for mixed colors. ACCT is now
available when any print controller is attached.

2.4 Customer-Defined Image Quality Adjustments and Recommendations
Customer-defined image quality adjustments enable the customer to enhance the
productivity of the machine. There are several ways to maintain color consistency
for each job. The recommendations below aim at reproducing optimal images under
variable factors (i.e., changes in the environment).
To achieve the best image quality, these factors are recommended:
All Controllers
•Media optimization for toner delivery, image location, finishing position, and paper
handling.
•Tighter control of the temperature and humidity will result in tighter color
consistency in the device.
•The device must be maintained properly, which includes performing preventative
maintenance as scheduled.
•The customer can also maintain proper color calibration on the device by
performing an Automatic Gradation Adjustment once a day. For optimal quality,
the customer should perform an Auto Gradation Adjustment whenever a change
in print quality is noticed and when dither pattern adjustments are made. It is
strongly suggested that the customer uses one media for the Automatic Gradation
Adjustment daily. The media for optimal color control should be consistent with
Hammermill 28 lb color laser.
•Some customers may want to incorporate a Color Management workflow that
consists of not only the above, but also utilizes the Color and Imaging features
included with the attached print controller.
Best Practices: While working, Color Management must be implemented with
consistency. This, along with a stable environment and a well-maintained system,
makes the customer’s ability to reproduce color more efficient.
PRISMAsync Only
Optimal quality is maintained through the calibration of media families in use.
Additionally, each halftone can be calibrated per media family for an environment
that requires the highest degree of color control.

2.5 Unified Firmware Platform Overview
The UFP (Unified Firmware Platform) provides a common firmware base across all
supported devices. This makes it possible to unify development, and reflect the
same functions and the latest specifications across all supported devices.
UFP updates are performed on a regular basis, and include new specifications and
enhancements. Critical bug fix firmware updates are released as needed.

•Consistent firmware updates across the imagePRESS V900/V800/V700 devices
in your fleet.

operation. The UFP enables digital-business communications, such as imaging

2.7 PRISMAsync Controller
The PRISMAsync Print Server can control the imagePRESS V900/V800/V700.
There are two versions of the PRISMAsync Print Server: PRISMAsync Print Server
(full) version and PRISMAsync Print Server LP (Light Production) version. Each can
be ordered with either a control panel stand or an upright control panel.
The full PRISMAsync Print Server version is designed for print operations and
in-plants that require full-color management and workflow functionality. The
PRISMAsync Print Server LP version is designed for operations which have a highly-
structured workflow but wish to restrict certain activities at the user interface. LP has
full color management and can be optioned with advanced color management
features.

2.7.1 PRISMAsync Printer Server Features
The PRISMAsync Print Servers have the following features.

-Support for customers who use the IEEE 802.1x network protocol.
-HCD-PP (Hard Copy Devices-Protection Profile)-ready and FIPS

•Banners, Trailers, and Separator Pages on All Job Levels – Customers can
add pre-made banner pages, trailer pages, and separator pages on specified
media on all job levels via JDF and AWF (Automated Workflows). Customers can
also edit these pages in PRISMAsync Remote Printer Driver, Ticket Editor, and
Remote Manager.
•Extended Automated Workflows – Extends the number of settings that can be
specified in an Automated Workflow.
•Double Feed Detection – Enables the customer to control how the PRISMAsync
handles a double-feed detection for a specific media in the input tray.

•Create a PDF Report for both G7 Verification and Color Validation8– The
G7 verification and color validation test results can be created and printed from
the operator panel at the end of the procedure. These results can be shared with
employees or people of interest within the print production environment (e.g.,
color consultants or the print production manager). Validation and verification
results can be exported to a CGATS-formatted file and be leveraged for trending
and tracking of performance metrics over time.
•PRISMAsync Remote Control – Provides new logging capabilities for optimal
troubleshooting support. Also sends alerts to iOS and Android devices so
operators can be notified of device status when not physically near the machine.
•PRISMAlytics Dashboard9– Enables the customer to view the consumable
counters.
•Double Punch Support – Enables customers to run LTRR and 11” x 17” paper
through the machine, and punch the sheets twice in the middle and trail edge of
the paper via the Multi Function Professional Puncher.
•Blank Page Accounting – Blank pages are not counted as clicks, and
media-usage counters are not changed.
•Media Matching for JDF Jobs – When configured appropriately, the
PRISMAsync Print Server does not require media identification attributes to be
specified for JDF jobs. This results in better integration with JDF systems.
•Support for Secure URLs – Jobs can be submitted from secure servers that
use HTTPS.

2.7.2 New PRISMAsync Print Server V8.3 Software Features
The latest available PRISMAsync Print Server software comes with these features:
•Addition of Media Properties to the Information Bar – The media properties
showed in the Information Bar now include name (optional), format, weight, type,
and color.
•Reporting of a PDF Access Error – An access error is returned if a PDF has
been submitted for printing but the PDF was secured and printing was disabled.
Other notifications include when an unavailable font has been replaced by a
bitmap.
