I. Product Overview and Configuration
A. Product Overview
The Océ (a Canon Group) VarioPrint 135/120/110 Series are Black & White
(B&W) print devices that integrates the Océ VarioPrint DP line of printers with
Canon finishing and accessory capabilities. Finishing and accessory
capabilities include: stapling, saddle finishing, hole punching, booklet
trimming, high capacity stacking, document insertion, paper folding, scanning
(B&W and color), and book binding.
As part of the VarioPrint DP Line, the VarioPrint 135/120/110 printers include
the Océ DirectPress technology that prints high-quality images consistently
on a wide range of media. Océ DirectPress converts digital data into a toner
image in a single step. This compact process is unaffected by temperature,
static or humidity. Therefore this process offers a stable performance and
quality without producing ozone or toner waste.
The Océ PRISMAsync Controller included with the Océ VarioPrint
135/120/110 print devices enables the end-user to define media and color
settings once and use them throughout the printing process. The Océ
PRISMAsync Controller is capable of operating in both a Windows and
Macintosh environment and handling multiple complex print jobs. The
Operator Panel allows the end-user to view and access job information,
manage print jobs, monitor the status of print jobs, and monitor the status of
the VarioPrint print device.
The VarioPrint 135/120/110 series includes the following configurations:
The VarioPrint 135, a Segment 6 device that prints and copies B&W
sheets at speeds of up to 135 ipm (images per minute)
The VarioPrint 120, a Segment 6 device that prints and copies B&W
sheets at speeds of up to 120 ipm
The VarioPrint 110, a Segment 6 device that prints and copies B&W
sheets at speeds of up to 110 ipm
The VarioPrint 135/120/110 series fit the light to mid production market and
are intended for:
In-plant CRD facilities that need to maintain control over printing costs,
quality, and turnaround time.
Commercial printers looking to expand their services and revenue
opportunities, while offering customers exceptional print quality.
Print for Pay characterizes the core work of the Quick Print market as
defined by its typical document applications and outputs.
The VarioPrint 135/120/110 series are capable of communicating via the
ARCnet (Attachable Resource Computer Network) communication cable to
connect ARCnet compatible finishers and accessories to the VarioPrint main
engine. The ARCnet communication cable provides a reliable, efficient
communication between the main unit and the accessories without
communication delay through the long distances the many accessories may
be connected.

B. Configuration
Two components must be selected to order a VarioPrint product. The Main
Engine Base Model Set and a license for the model speed. The model speed
is available with or without the Printer Operation Care program enabled on
the device.

The Operator Panel allows the end-user to view and access job
information, manage print jobs, monitor the status of print jobs, and
monitor the status of the VarioPrint. In addition, with the touch of a button
the end-user has the ability to stop the VarioPrint engine or place the
engine into a sleep mode. The service technician has access to view and
manage system information.
The Operator Panel supports a USB interface for memory media
integration and device support. The DocBox-C1 license installed on the
PRISMAsync controller provides operators with a comprehensive means
to store, group, edit and reprint jobs. The DropBox editing options are a
subset of the PRISMAprepare job preparation software.
3. Operator Attention Light
The Optional Operator Attention Light is mounted on top of the VarioPrint
and helps the end-user monitor the status of the VarioPrint from a
distance.
The light’s colors match the printer status displayed on the dashboard of
the Operator Panel.
Red - The machine has stopped. Operator attention is required. (i.e. a
required media type is not available or an error has occurred.)
Orange - The machine will stop soon (i.e. required media is low).
Operator attention is required soon. The orange light illuminates when
the machine reaches a specified warning time. The warning time can be
set by the end-user in the “System” view of the operator panel.
Green - The machine is busy printing. Operator attention is not required.
No color - The machine is idle. There are no jobs scheduled for printing.
4. USB Printing and Scan to USB
If a USB storage device is connected to the Operator Panel the ‘USB
Ready’ and ‘Scan to USB’ buttons are active. USB printing is available as
a standard function. Scan-to-USB (as all scan-to-file functionality) is
enabled when the Scan to File/E-mail-C1 license is installed.
5. Scan to File/E-mail-C1 License
A license, available as standard, to enable the end-user to scan B&W
documents to a file or scan B&W documents to e-mail.
6. Color Scan to File/E-mail-C1 License
An optional license to enable the end-user to scan color documents to a
file or scan color documents to e-mail. The Scan to File/E-mail-C1
License is required to install the Color Scan to File/E-mail-C1 license.

3. Duo Paper Tray-A1
The optional Duo Paper Tray-A1 for the ePIM-C1 replaces components
within Tray 3 and Tray 4 to increases the capacity of the paper trays to up
to 3,300 sheets per tray (@ 80 g/m2LTR).
An ePIM-C1 with a Duo Paper Tray-A1 installed in Tray 3 and Tray 4 has
a maximum capacity of up to 7,800 sheets (@ 80 g/m2). The VarioPrint
135/120/110 with an ePIM-C1 attached (utilizing a Duo Paper Tray in
Tray 3 and Tray 4) has a maximum capacity of up to 11,800 sheets (@
80 g/m2).
Notes:
1. One (1) Duo Paper Tray-A1 supports one (1) paper tray
2. When the Duo Paper Tray-A1 is installed, only Letter size sheets can
be used in the tray.
3. Once a paper tray has been converted using the Duo Paper Tray-A1,

4. Finisher-AF1 and Saddle Finisher-AF2
The Finisher-AF1 and Saddle Finisher-AF2 stack up to 5,000 sheets
(3,000 LTR for upper tray and 2,000 LTR for lower tray) and supports
paper weights of 52-300gsm. The Saddle Finisher-AF2/Finisher-AF1
staples up to 100 sheets with cut staples.
The Saddle Finisher-AF2 includes Saddle Stitch Booklet Finishing for
booklets of up to 25-sheets (up to 100 pages).
These Finishers have the ability to V-fold up to 5-sheets without the use
of staples. With the Puncher Unit-BQ1 installed in the Saddle Finisher-
AF2/Finisher-AF1, 2-hole and 3-hole punch capability is added to the
finisher. The Saddle Finisher-AF2 and Finisher-AF1 cannot be installed
at the same time.
5. Puncher Unit-BQ1
The Puncher Unit-BQ1 provides 2-hole and 3-hole punch capability for
paper stocks from 14 lb Bond to 73 lb Cover. This option supports 2-
hole punch for LGL and LTR-R paper and 3-hole punch for 11" x 17" and
LTR. The Puncher Unit-BQ1 is installed internally within the Finisher-AF1
or Saddle Finisher-AF2. The finisher’s paper path has sensors to detect
the sides of paper for accurate hole punching.

Notes:
1. The VarioPrint 135/120/110 requires PRISMAsync Firmware 2.4 to

2. The High Capacity Stacker-F1 and the High Capacity Stacker-E1
cannot be installed at the same time.
3. To sell the High Capacity Stacker-F1 and receive technical support,
the Servicing Dealer must have at least two (2) Service Technicians
complete the online update course for the High Capacity Stacker-F1.

IMPORTANT
Canon USA highly recommends that service technicians provide
administrators/operators with safety instructions using the "Important
Notification of High Capacity Stacker-F1" sheet (See Appendix). The
notification sheet is included with the High Capacity Stacker-F1 and is
available in the Service Manual.
8. Paper Folding Unit-F1
The Paper Folding Unit-F1 enables the user to Z-fold, C-fold, Zigzag-fold,
and Double Parallel-fold paper for businesses that require letters,
invoices, or brochures to be folded. The Paper Folding Unit-F1 is installed
in before the Saddle Finisher-AF1/Finisher-AF2.
9. Document Insertion Unit-F1
This Document Inserter Unit-F1 provides users the ability to insert pre-
printed cover sheets or insert sheets for binding. There is an upper tray
and a lower tray with each having a capacity of up to 200 sheets. The
Document Insertion Unit-F1 supports Plain Paper, or Tab paper, paper
weights of 14 lb bond to 110 lb cover and a paper size of 7.2” x 7.2” to
13”x19.2”. This unit can be installed with both the Finisher-AF1 and
Saddle Finisher-AF2.
Note: productivity will slow down while using this accessory.

10. Booklet Trimmer-D1
This accessory attaches to the Booklet Tray of the Saddle Finisher-AF2
and provides front trimming of saddle-stitch bookbinding jobs. The
Finisher-AF2 can trim up to 100 pages (approximately 25 sheets
quartered) to deliver a flush, even edge. Once the booklets are trimmed,
they are delivered to an output tray through a conveyor belt, with a
loading capacity of up to 30 books (equivalent to 750 two-sided pages).
11. Two Knife Booklet Trimmer-A1
When the optional Booklet Trimmer-D1 is attached to the optional Two-
Knife Booklet Trimmer-A1 users can trim the front edge and top/bottom
edges of saddle-stitched prints for a neat output.
C. System Options
1. Océ PRISMAprepare
The optional Océ PRISMAprepare is a job preparation client application
for document make-ready. PRISMAprepare can be used to collect and
combine PDF documents from a variety of digital and analog sources into
one document. PRISMAprepare can be used to clean up pages from
digital or hard copy sources, enhance documents, assign media
attributes, create inserts, or optimize image color brightness and
saturation.
PRISMAprepare allows the end-user to preview the preparation process
on screen, eliminating the need for hard copy proofing. The integrated
color management capabilities enable the end-user to modify color
brightness and saturation, replace, change or modify colors and access
PANTONE Matching System and HKS12F
13 spot color libraries.
PRISMAprepare is device-independent. The end-user can print PDF files
to any device.
Adobe Acrobat Version 9 or Version 10 must be installed on each
Personal Computer (PC) that will utilize a license of Océ
PRISMAprepare.

2. Océ PRISMAaccess
The optional Océ PRISMAaccess is a job submission and print
management application for a print shop or print room. The Océ
PRISMAaccess job submission and print management application
enables end-user customers to submit jobs to a print room directly from
their desktops via a web interface, downloadable driver or e-mail.
Communication features include automated e-mail notification and a
personalized overview of jobs in production to update the end-user
customer on the status of orders.
Adobe Acrobat Version 9 or Version 10 must be installed on each PC that
will utilize a license of Océ PRISMAaccess.
3. Remote User Interface-C1
The Remote User Interface license enables the end-user to access the
status window of the Océ PRISMAsync controller remotely from any
computer in the same network. The remote viewer is accessed by typing
‘http://[printer name or IP address]/remoteinfo’ in the address bar of an
internet browser. The remote information provided includes:
The current engine status, displaying the same status bar visible on the
Operator Panel.

left for all scheduled print jobs to be finished.
D. Security Options
1. E-shredding-C1
The E-shredding software license allows the end-user to securely erase
jobs from the VarioPrint 135/120/110 Series and the Océ PRISMAsync
controller. This prevents unauthorized people from accessing deleted
jobs. This functionality is interesting for government institutions, law firms
and other customers with an increased demand for data security.
Available erase options within e-shredding are:
Gutmann - All jobs on the VarioPrint 135/120/110 Series and the Océ
PRISMAsync controller are erased in 35 overwrite passes.
US DOD 5220.22m, 8-306.d - All jobs on the VarioPrint 135/120/110
Series and the Océ PRISMAsync controller are erased in three (3)
overwrite passes.
Custom - The end-user can define the number of overwrite passes
manually.
Note: e-shredding will impact product performance. Depending on
the e-shredding settings (number of overwrites) and the
complexity of the processed job data, an impact of 10% to 40%
can be expected on product performance.
