1 General Installation
This manual describes the sensors and cabinet modules installation. The installation consists of two
parts: Mechanical installation and Electrical installation.

In this manual, the installer can find answers to most questions arising during the installation of
sensors and wiring the cables. After the planning, we can move forward towards the installation
process.

2 Install the bases
Before installing the SBPSUSLxx sensors, you must install the base holders. The bases must be
fixed in a hard and straight surface.
Notice: rubble, sand and grass cannot be used as surface.
The bases must always be installed on the ceiling.
If water and snow are covering the surface, the sensor cannot detect the car. If a car is covered with
snow, the sensor cannot detect the car.
Be sure to mount the base correctly so that the sensor points towards the car park bays.
When the base holder is used with the SBPSUSL45 lane sensor, it must be mounted on the ceiling
or in a rail with an angle of maximum ± 5° degrees vertical deviation and ± 2° degrees horizontal
deviation from the ceiling surface. See the picture below:
When the base holder is used with the SBPSUSL vertical sensor, it must be mounted on the ceiling
or in a rail with an angle of maximum ± 5° degrees vertical deviation from the ceiling surface. See
the picture below:
Both type of sensors sends out a 40 kHz ultrasonic signal, and that the receiver inside the sensor
must to be able to detect the returning signal without problems. If the angle exceeds the maximum
deviation value or the surface is of poor quality, the signal can be interrupted and the sensor red
LEDs start flashing.

There are two available bases: SBPBASEA and SBPBASEB.
SBPBASEA is designed for cable tray and conduit/ pipe mounting where the wires enter the base
holder from the top.
Note: Cable tray installation is a very quick installation. In addition, it is cheap (in Europe because of
the labour) and it has a nice (aesthetic) appearance.
SBPBASEB is designed for ceiling mounting where the cables or wires enter the base holder from
the side where the knockouts on three sides are located. The knockouts can be removed by using a
drill.
Note: In Asia experience has shown that customers prefer the lowered sensor installation.
Both bases can be used together with all the car park 3 sensors or LED indicators.
The base has a:
•2*3-wire connection for D+, D- and POW
•female RJ12 connector, which must be connected to the sensor or LED indicator
•PCB containing the unique SIN number for identification when connected to the Dupline®
bus

2.1.1 Install the SBPBASEA
Mount the base holder with self-tapping screws using the screw holes
Cable tray Conduit / pipe
The SIN indication and connectors must face the parking bay.
Wiring the base: leave extra wires (30 cm) for an easier connection and maintenance.
Place the wires around the inner part of the base.
Use a 1.5 mm2or AWG16 single-core wire, or stranded wires with ferrules.

2.1.2 Install the SBPBASEB
Fix the base by using three screws The base holder has knockouts on three sides that can be
removed by using a drill
The SIN indication and connectors must face the parking bay.
Wiring the Base: leave extra wires (30 cm) for an easier connection and maintenance.
Place the wires around the inner part of the base.
Use a 1.5 mm2or AWG16 single-core wire, or stranded wires with ferrules.

3 Install the sensors
Notice: during the planning, you must decide where and how to mount the sensors. You must
consider the following conditions:
• On the ceiling
• On a cable tray
• As a lowered sensor
When you install sensors, you should investigate what kind of technique is the best in that specific
installation.
Please evaluate the most properly sensor that fits the project requirements.
In most installations, the lane-mounted sensor will be preferred because of the reduced cost of labour
and material used. In some circumstances the vertical sensor is preferred, but that will be a decision
made by the owner and the architect of the building.
3.1 Install the SBPSUSL45 lane sensor
The SBPSUSL45 is a 45-degree angled sensor that should be placed in the driving lane,
outside each parking bay pointing towards the parking bay. Consider the following indications:
Height: 2.2 to 2.4m
Depth of detection: 1.5 m
Maximum vertical deviation: ±5°
Maximum horizontal deviation: ±2°

3.1.1 Mounting indications
Mount the SBPBASEA or SBPBASEB correctly, so when you mount the sensor it will point towards
to the parking bay.
For best performance, mount the sensor at a height of 2.4 m at the entrance of the parking bay.
For aesthetic reasons, mount the sensors in a straight line and at the same height.
Height
The sensor is higher than the suggested height.
Use the SBPBASEA + pipe instead of the SBPBASEB
Mounting position
The sensor is too far from the parking bay
Put the sensor as closer as possible to the parking bay

3.2 Install the SBPSUSL vertical sensor
The SBPSUSL vertical sensor should be placed in the middle of the parking bay, above the car, at
a height between 2.0 (6.56) to 4.0 m (13.12 ft) and with a maximum vertical deviation of ±5°

3.2.1 Mounting indications
If you use the vertical sensor SBPSUSL, the maximum height must be 4 m. If the height is greater,
lower the sensor by means of ceiling mounting brackets.
Height and depth
The sensor is higher than the suggested height
Use the SBPBASEA + pipe instead of the SBPBASEB
Mounting position
The sensor is wrongly mounted in the lane
The sensor is properly mounted in the middle of the parking
bay above the car

3.3 Install the SBPSUSCNT counter
3.3.1 Minimum distance between sensors
The sensor should be mounted on the driving lane at a height between 2.0 and 2.5 m.
Refer to Table1to place the two sensors at a proper distance:
Should the driving lane be larger than the standard one (2.5 - 3.25 m), please refer to Table2to place the
two sensors at a proper distance:
3.3.2 Mounting suggestions
Example 1
One of the sensors is placed too far from the middle of the
lane
The sensors are placed in the middle of the driving lane

The car passes in the middle of the lane without activating
the sensors
The delineator permits the correct counting in both the lanes

3.3.3 Improving the mounting position
In case of queues, to prevent a wrong counting, place the SBPSUSCNT sensors in the centre of the ramp
among the floors instead of at the beginning/end.
Ramps among floors
The SBPSUSCNT sensors are placed at the end of the ramp.
The SBPSUSCNT sensors placed in the middle of the ramp.
Note: if the queues are frequent in the areas where the SBPSUSCNT sensors are placed, use the
SBPSUSLxx sensors for a single-bay monitoring solution.
The ultrasonic technology does not work if the cars or the floor are covered by the snow.

3.4 Install the SBPILED indicator
The SBPILED indicator is used together with the SBPSUSL sensor if the sensor LEDs are not
visible from the lane side. It should be placed outside the parking bay, in the driving lane, where it
is highly visible to the drivers. Please refer to the picture below:

3.5 Mounting the sensor to the base
Note: the procedure below is the same for mounting the sensor on the SBPBASEA or SBPBASEB
bases. The base must be installed on the ceiling (according to the method shown above) and wired
(see the Electrical installation chapter).
1) Connect the sensor to the base with RJ12
connector
2) Place the sensor mark vertically so that it
points towards the base of the triangle (see
the picture)
3) Twist the sensor clockwise until the vertical
mark is positioned at the end of the triangle. The
sensor is now fixed to the base.
4) Turn the screwdriver anti-clockwise for
sealing the sensor to the base (see the
picture)

3.6 Cabinet modules installation
The cabinets for all the DIN rail-mounted Parking Guidance System modules should be placed in
the middle of the system so to have a uniform load. This permits you to use only few cabinets and
to reduce the length of the cable to the sensors.
For further information, go to How to calculate the cable length.
If you reduce the length of the cable to the sensors, you can mount more sensors on the same
Dupline® bus.
Note: you can mount maximum 50 sensors in a line and connect maximum 90 sensors to a CMCG.
The cabinet(s) can be also installed away from the system or simply at the end of the system. If
you choose to ignore the rules mentioned in section System calculation, we recommend to
calculate the load and voltage drop.

3.7 Cabinet modules (DIN-rail mounted)
The cabinet modules are DIN-rail mounted. We’ll use the following modules:

3.8 Cabinet structure
Notice: the selected cabinet must always comply with the regulations of the installation building or
country. For further information, refer to the CP3 Planning and design manual.
Use a cabinet with enough space for heat dissipation so to prevent overheating caused by power
supplies and power consumption. Large cabinets also permit you to include future installations.
Place the modules in line and use cable channels to maintain the aesthetics of the cabinet and to
keep it in order. If more than one wire is connected in a terminal, be sure to use the same cross
section and/or use ferrules to ensure a good connection in the terminal.
Example 1
This example shows one UWP 3.0 and two SBP2MCG324 with two power supply units. The left
modules are a display interface module and an SBP2CPY24 powered by one power supply unit.
Simple wiring in a cabinet
Three 2Amp power supplies for the SBP2CPY24 and the UWP 3.0
(for light control and HVAC equipment).
A UWP 3.0 and five SBP2MCG324s powered by five 5amp power
supplies (on the second and third rows respectively).
Fuses and an Ethernet switch
A cabinet power switch.
