regulations.
Forthisreason,INMOSTCASESTHESEACCIDENTSCANBEAVOIDED:byforeseeingpossiblecausesandcon-
sequentlyactingwiththenecessarycautionandcare.
Accidentsmayoccurwithalltypesofmachine,regardlessofhowwellthemachineinquestionwasdesignedand
built.
Acarefulandprudentmechanicisthebestinsuranceagainstanyaccident.
Preciseobservanceofthemostbasicsafetyruleisnormallysufcienttoavoidmanyseriousaccidents.
DANGER:Nevercarryoutanycleaning,lubricationormaintenanceoperationswhentheengineisrunning.
GENERALITIES
•Carefullyfollowspeciedrepairandmaintenanceprocedures.
•Donotwearrings,wristwatches,jewellery,unbuttonedorloosearticlesofclothingsuchas:ties,tornclothing,
scarves,openjacketsorshirtswithopenzipsthatmayremainentangledinmovingparts.
Itisadvisedtowearapprovedsafetyclothing,e.g:non--slipfootwear,gloves,safetygoggles,helmets,etc.
•Donotcarryoutrepairoperationswithsomeonesittinginthedriver’sseat,unlessthepersonisatrainedtechnician
whoisassistingwiththeoperationinquestion.
•Operatethevehicleandusetheimplementsexclusivelyfromthedriver’sseat.
•Donotcarryoutoperationsonthevehiclewiththeenginerunning,unlessspecicallyindicated.
•Stoptheengineandensurethatallpressureisrelievedfromhydrauliccircuitsbeforeremovingcaps,covers,valves,
etc.
•Allrepairandmaintenanceoperationsmustbecarriedoutwiththegreatestcareandattention.
•Servicestairsandplatformsusedinaworkshoporintheeldshouldbebuiltincompliancewiththesafetyrulesin
force.
•Disconnectthebatteriesandlabelallcontrolstoindicatethatthevehicleisbeingserviced.Blockthemachineand
allequipmentwhichshouldberaised.
•Donotcheckorllfueltanks,accumulatorbatteries,norusestartingliquidwhensmokingornearnakedames,
astheseuidsareinammable.
•Brakesareinoperativeifmanuallyreleasedforrepairormaintenancepurposes.
Insuchcases,themachineshouldbekeptconstantlyundercontrolusingblocksorsimilardevices.
•Thefuelnozzleshouldalwaysbeincontactwiththellingaperture.Maintainthispositionuntilllingoperations
arecompletedinordertoavoidpossiblesparkscausedbytheaccumulationofstaticelectricity.
•Onlyusespeciedtowingpointsfortowingthetractor.Connectthepartscarefullyandmakesurethatallpins
and/orlocksaresecuredinpositionbeforeapplyingtraction.
Neverremainnearthetowingbars,cablesorchainsthatareoperatingunderload
•T omoveadisabledmachine,useatraileroralow-boy,ifavailable.
•Whenloadingorunloadingthevehiclefromthetrailer,orothermeansoftransport,selectaatareacapable
ofsustainingthetrailerortruckwheels,rmlysecurethetractortothetruckortrailerandlockthewheelsinthe
position.
•Forelectricalheaters,battery-chargersandsimilarequipmentuseexclusiveauxiliarypowersupplieswithaefcient
groundtoavoidelectricalshockhazard.
•Alwaysuseliftingequipmentandsimilarofappropriatecapacitytoliftormoveheavycomponents.
•T akeextracareifbystandersarepresent.
•Neverpourgasolineordieseloilintoopen,wideandlowcontainers.
•Neverusegasoline,dieseloilorotherinammableliquidsascleaningagents.Usenon-ammablenon-toxicpro-
prietarysolvents.
•Wearsafetygoggleswithsideguardswhencleaningpartswithcompressedair.
