1.1 Introduction
Thank you for purchasing the BC 231 SD: we hope this Cashtester anknote counter simplifies your daily
work with anknotes and makes it easier to recognize counterfeit money. Following we provide all major
information regarding the BC 231 SD. Please note that this sophisticated anknote counter has to e
cleaned regularly to guarantee an optimum count and long life span. You will find directions for correct
care and maintenance in chapter 3.1 Maintenance in this instruction manual. Should you experience
pro lems with the unit in spite of correct care, do not hesitate to contact your supplier.
1.2 Safety instructions
Only use the power ca le delivered with the product. The device is only to e opened y qualified
service technicians. Changes made to the hardware will void the warranty.

Settings and functions
2.1 Operation
In order to avoid counting/detecting errors, pay attention to the following:
Align the anknotes correctly;
Straighten out the folded notes;
Remove wrinkled notes;
Remove any foreign o ject like paper clips etc. from the note pack;
Unwrap folded corners and curved anknotes.
Place the machine on a sta le, flat surface and ensure there is no strong electromagnetic field and/or
sunshine around it. Plug the power ca le into the electrical socket (100-240V AC) and make sure all the
connections are secure. lf you have purchased an external display, connect it to the RS232 interface
on the ack of the machine.

Turn on the power switch: the machine will display the software version and perform a self-test. lf the
test is successful, the machine will enter ready state. lf an error message appears on the LCD display,
check the chapter 3.5 Error messages and solutions in this manual.
Before counting the anknotes, please adjust the left and right hopper guide to a suita le position
ased on the width of the anknotes. Now place the anknotes in the middle of the hopper and the
machine will start counting.
2.2 Currency
After turning on the machine, the active currency is displayed on the LCD display. The BC 231 SD comes
with multiple currencies pre-installed. When you want to count other currencies, press the ‘CUR/PRT’
key until you have found the desired currency.
2.3 Counting mode
Different counting modes can e chosen and for most currencies all modes are availa le. First select
the correct currency and to choose the correct mode, press ‘MODE’ to toggle etween them.
MIX mode - In the MIX mode, ‘MIX’ is displayed on the display and the machine counts all
(un)sorted notes of the same currency. After finishing the counting, the total value and total
num er of genuine notes are displayed on the LCD display. To view a detailed counting result
press and hold ‘ADD/REP’ for 2 seconds. In this mode counterfeit detection is ON.
SORT mode - In the SORT mode, ‘SORT’ is displayed on the display and the machine only counts
notes of the same denomination. For this function the first note, which is counted y the BC 231
SD, determines which notes are counted and which are rejected. In this mode counterfeit
detection is ON.
V mode - In the UV mode, ‘UV’ is displayed on the display and the machine only counts notes
of the same denomination. For this function the first note, which is counted y the BC 231 SD,
determines which notes are counted and which are rejected. In this mode counterfeit detection
is ON (UV only!).
Count mode – When you only want to count the num er of anknotes, the ‘COUNT’ mode
should e activated. After finishing the counting, the total quantity is displayed on the display.
The counterfeit detection is OFF.
Accumulative counting (ADD) – To accumulate different countings, press the ‘ADD/REP’ key:
now ADD is displayed on the display. When the accumulative quantity reaches 10.000 or the
accumulative value reaches 1.000.000, the num er will e reset to 0.
Batch counting (B:---) – To set a atch, press ‘BAT/CLR’ and now ‘B:100’ is displayed. To change
this num er, press ‘BAT/CLR’ several times and the BC 231 SD will toggle etween the standard
settings (100, 50, 20, 10, 5 and ---) where ‘---‘ means the function is disa led. To set another
quantity, press ‘+1/+10’ to adjust the pre-configured settings.
After setting the atch num er, place the anknotes on the hopper and the machine will start
counting. When the set atch num er is reached, the machine will stop automatically. After
removing the notes from the stacker, the anknote counter will continue.
2.4 Report / printing
After the counting has finished, oth the total value and total quantity of the counted, genuine
anknotes are displayed on the display. To view a detailed counting result press and hold ‘ADD/REP’
for 2 seconds. To print a more detailed counting result (quantity and value per denomination) press and
hold ‘CUR/PRT’ for 2 seconds.

Maintenance and troubleshooting
3.1 Maintenance
In order to avoid miscounting/detecting errors, it is advised to clean the BC 231 SD regularly and at least
once a week. Dust on the detecting modules, IR sensor(s) and magnetic sensor(s) can affect the
counting result and therefore shall e cleaned thoroughly. You may clean the machine y using the
provided rush or optional cleaning cloth to remove any dust inside the machine.
Also pay attention to the following:
if the temperature is lower than 20 degrees Celsius, please turn on the machine and wait for at
least 3 minutes efore counting so that the BC 231 SD can acclimatize;
the BC 231 SD shall e operated at places with good ventilation and kept away from strong
sunshine and strong magnetic fields;
the power plug of the machine shall e inserted to a grounded electrical socket;
assure that the different moving parts are not stained with grease, otherwise the anknotes will
slide and affect the counting.
ATTENTION: do not use any chemicals to clean this machine.
3.2 Software update
The BC 231 SD can e updated very easily y using a special micro SD card and we strongly
recommend this way of updating. This card can e o tained via your supplier and to provide the
correct software the serial num er of the machine is needed.
Insert the micro SD card to the micro SD card reader at the ackside of the machine. Now power on
the machine. When ‘Press to Enter Setup Mode 1’ appears in the display, press and hold the ‘MODE’
and the ‘CUR/PRT’ uttons simultaneously: now ‘DOWNLOADING PLEASE WAIT’ will show up (you can
release the uttons now) and the software is written to the BC 231 SD. After the updating, the display
will show ‘Update Done’ and the BC 231 SD must e switched off y hand.
ATTENTION: if the power is interrupted during updating or when the micro SD card drops out, please
insert the micro SD card again and the BC 231 SD will finish updating automatically.
Updating y USB/computer is also possi le. In oth cases contact your supplier for more information.
3.3 Removal of jammed banknotes
When a note is jammed inside the BC 231 SD, disconnect the power and open the top cover to remove
the anknote(s). Now close the cover and turn on the power again.
3.4 Adjusting the feeding gap
The feeding gap has already een set to the est position factory wise. Though, when one of the
following counting pro lems occur, it might e necessary to re-adjust the adjusting screw (see 1.4 Unit
design for the location):
lf frequently notes jam or are not counted smoothly, please turn the adjusting screw anti-clockwise
(-) to make the clearance larger;
lf frequently dou le notes or chained notes occur, please turn the adjusting screw clockwise (+)
to make the clearance smaller.
ATTENTION: only make minor adjustments to the adjusting screw!

3.5 Error messages and solutions
The BC 231 SD automatically performs a self-test after powering on. lf one of the following error messages
is displayed, usually a sensor is locked y dust or anknotes are still in the stacker. Remove the
anknotes or use a rush / soft cloth to clean the sensor and then restart the machine.
In any scenario where an error (message) can’t e solved, contact your supplier! Changes made to
the machine y the end user (hardware and software) will void the warranty.

Sometimes error messages appear during usage. Please follow the instructions elow to solve them:

Slant notes
The anknotes are not fed straight into the machine. Ensure the
anknotes are placed neatly and inserted centered on the
hopper. Use the hopper guides to center the anknote when
counting a large stack of anknotes and guide the notes also
with your hands during counting.
Chained notes /
Dou le notes
Some anknotes are connected or overlapped: take all the
notes and count them again. If the error message frequently
occurs, adjust the vertical adjusting screw slightly in clockwise
direction (+)
Incomplete notes
Half piece or incomplete anknote. Remove it and press ‘RESET’
to continue the counting. We recommend recounting all the
notes.

1.1 Einleitung
Vielen Dank, dass Sie sich für den BC 231 SD entschieden ha en. Wir hoffen, dass dieser Cashtester-
Banknotenzähler Ihre tägliche Ar eit mit Banknoten vereinfacht und die Erkennung von Falschgeld
erleichtert. Nachstehend finden Sie alle wichtigen Informationen ezüglich des BC 231 SD. Bitte
eachten Sie, dass dieser hochentwickelte Banknotenzähler regelmäßig gereinigt werden muss, um
optimale Zählung und eine lange Le ensdauer zu gewährleisten. Anleitungen zur Pflege und Wartung
finden Sie in Kapitel 3.1 Wartung in dieser Bedienungsanleitung. Wenden Sie sich ei Pro lemen mit dem
Gerät trotz sorgfältiger Pflege an Ihren Lieferanten.
1.2 Sicherheitshinweise
Verwenden Sie nur das mitgelieferte Netzka el für das Gerät. Das Gerät darf nur von einem
qualifizierten Kundendiensttechniker geöffnet werden. Veränderungen am Gerät führen zum Verlust
aller Garantieansprüche.

Einstellungen und Funktionen
2.1 Bedienungshinweise
Bitte eachten Sie die nachstehenden Hinweise, um Zähl- und Erkennungsfehler zu vermeiden:
Richten Sie die Banknoten korrekt aus;
Glätten Sie gefaltete Banknoten;
Entfernen Sie zerknitterte Banknoten;
Entfernen Sie Fremdkörper wie Büroklammern usw. aus dem Banknotenstapel;
Glätten Sie „Eselsohren“ und gekrümmte Banknoten.
Stellen Sie das Gerät auf einer sta ilen und e enen Ar eitsfläche auf und achten Sie darauf, dass es
keinen starken elektromagnetischen Feldern und/oder direkter Sonneneinstrahlung ausgesetzt ist.
Schließen Sie das Netzka el fest an einer Steckdose (100 - 240 V AC) an. Ha en Sie ein externes Display
erwor en, so schließen Sie es an der RS232-Schnittstelle auf der Rückseite des Geräts an.

Schalten Sie das Gerät mit dem Ein-/Ausschalter ein. Damit wird die Softwareversion angezeigt und ein
Sel sttest durchgeführt. Bei erfolgreichem Testverlauf ist das Gerät etrie s ereit. Wird eine
Fehlermeldung im LCD-Display angezeigt, so finden Sie Einzelheiten im Kapitel 3.5 Fehlermeldungen und
Lösungsvorschläge in dieser Bedienungsanleitung.
Vor dem Zählen von Banknoten stellen Sie itte die linke und rechte Füllschachtführung entsprechend
der Breite der Banknoten ein. Legen Sie dann die Banknoten zentriert in den Füllschacht: das Gerät
eginnt mit der Zählung.
2.2 Währung
Nach dem Einschalten des Geräts wird das Sym ol der aktiven Währung im LCD-Display angezeigt. Der
BC 231 SD wird mit mehreren Währungen voreingestellt geliefert. Zum Zählen anderer Währungen
drücken Sie „CUR/PRT“, is die gewünschte Währung angezeigt wird.
2.3 Zählmodus
Für die meisten Währungen können unterschiedliche Zählmodi gewählt werden. Wählen Sie zunächst
die Währung und dann den Modus, dann drücken Sie „MODE“, um zwischen den Modi umzuschalten.
MIX-Modus – Im MIX-Modus wird „MIX“ im Display angezeigt und das Gerät zählt alle
(un)sortierten Banknoten der gleichen Währung. Nach dem Zählvorgang werden der
Gesamtwert und die Gesamtzahl echter Banknoten angezeigt. Zur Anzeige eines detaillierten
Zählerge nisses halten Sie „ADD/REP“ für 2 Sekunden gedrückt. In diesem Modus ist die
Falschgelderkennung EIN geschaltet.
SORTIER-Modus – Im SORTIER-Modus wird „SORT“ im Display angezeigt und das Gerät zählt nur
Banknoten der gleichen Stückelung. Für diese Funktion estimmt die erste durch den BC 231 SD
gezählte Banknote, welche Banknoten gezählt zw. ausgesondert werden. In diesem Modus ist
die Falschgelderkennung EIN geschaltet.
V-Modus – Im UV-Modus wird „UV“ im Display angezeigt und das Gerät zählt nur Banknoten
der gleichen Stückelung. Für diese Funktion estimmt die erste durch den BC 231 SD gezählte
Banknote, welche Banknoten gezählt zw. ausgesondert werden. In diesem Modus ist die
Falschgelderkennung EIN geschaltet (nur UV!).
Zählmodus – Möchten Sie nur die Anzahl der Banknoten zählen, so aktivieren Sie den Modus
„COUNT“. Nach A schluss der Zählung wird die Menge im Display angezeigt. Die
Falschgelderkennung ist ausgeschaltet.
Addierendes Zählen (ADD) – Zum Addieren unterschiedlicher Zählungen drücken Sie
„ADD/REP“, im Display wird „ADD“ angezeigt. Erreicht die addierte Menge 10.000 oder erreicht
der addierte Wert 1.000.000, so erfolgt eine Rücksetzung auf 0.
Batchzählung (B:---) – Zum Einstellen eines Batchs drücken Sie „BAT/CLR“, „B:100“ wird
angezeigt. Zum Ändern dieser Zahl drücken Sie mehrmals „BAT/CLR“, damit schaltet der BC 231
SD zwischen den Standardeinstellungen (100, 50, 20, 10, 5 und ---) um. „---“ steht für die
Deaktivierung der Funktion. Zum Einstellen einer anderen Menge drücken Sie „+1/+10“, um die
vorkonfigurierten Einstellungen zu ändern.
Nach dem Einstellen der Batchanzahl legen Sie die Banknoten in den Füllschacht und das Gerät
eginnt automatisch mit der Zählung. Beim Erreichen der eingestellten Batchanzahl stoppt das
Gerät automatisch. Nach dem Entfernen der Banknoten aus dem Stapler setzt der
Banknotenzähler die Zählung fort.

2.4 Bericht/Drucken
Nach dem Ende der Zählung werden sowohl der Gesamtwert wie auch die Gesamtanzahl der
gezählten echten Banknoten im LCD-Display angezeigt. Zur Anzeige eines detaillierten Zählerge nisses
halten Sie „ADD/REP“ für 2 Sekunden gedrückt.
Zum Ausdruck eines detaillierten Zählerge nisses (Anzahl und Wert je Stückelung) halten Sie „CUR/PRT“
für 2 Sekunden gedrückt.
Wartung und Störungsbehebung
3.1 Wartung
Um Zähl- und Erkennungsfehler zu vermeiden, empfehlen wir, den BC 231 SD regelmäßig und
mindestens einmal wöchentlich zu reinigen. Stau auf dem Bilderkennungsmodul, dem/den IR-
Sensor(en) und magnetischen Sensor(en) kann das Zählerge nis eeinflussen und muss daher sorgfältig
entfernt werden. Reinigen Sie das Gerät und entfernen Sie Stau im Inneren mit dem mitgelieferten
Pinsel oder (optionalen) Reinugungstücher.
Beachten Sie auch die folgenden Hinweise:
Beträgt die Temperatur weniger als 20 °C, so warten Sie nach dem Einschalten des Geräts
mindestens 3 Minuten a , evor Sie mit dem Zählen eginnen. Damit kann sich der BC 231 SD
aufwärmen;
Der BC 231 SD muss an Orten mit guter Ventilation und außerhal direkter Sonneneinstrahlung und
starker Magnetfelder etrie en werden;
Der Netzstecker des Geräts muss an einer geerdeten Steckdose angeschlossen werden;
Vergewissern Sie sich, dass die verschiedenen eweglichen Teile nicht durch Fett verschmutzt
sind, anderenfalls verrutschen die Banknoten und die Zählung ist eeinträchtigt.
ACHT NG: Verwenden Sie keine Chemikalien zum Reinigen des Geräts.
3.2 Software- pdate
Der BC 231 SD kann einfach ü er eine Mikro SD-Karte aktualisiert werden; diese Art der Aktualisierung
wird dringend empfohlen. Diese spezielle Karte erhalten Sie ü er Ihren Lieferanten und zur Lieferung der
korrekten Software wird die Seriennummer des Geräts enötigt.
Zur Aktualisierung führen Sie die Mikro SD-Karte in den Mikro SD-Kartenleser auf der Rückseite des Geräts
ein. Dann schalten Sie das Gerät ein. Wenn „Press to Enter Setup Mode 1“ im Display angezeigt wird,
halten Sie „MODE“ und „CUR/PRT“ gleichzeitig gedrückt: nun wird „DOWNLOADING PLEASE WAIT“
angezeigt (Sie können die Tasten nun loslassen) und die Software wird auf den BC 231 SD geschrie en.
Nach der Aktualisierung wird im Display „Update Done“ angezeigt und sollen Sie den BC 231 SD manuell
ausschalten.
ACHT NG: Kommt es während der Aktualisierung zu einem Stromausfall oder wird die Mikro SD-
Karte a gezogen, setzen Sie die Mikro SD-Karte wieder ein. Damit stellt der BC 231 SD die
Aktualisierung automatisch fertig.
Eine Aktualisierung ü er USB-Port/Computer ist e enfalls möglich. In eiden Fällen wenden Sie sich itte
zwecks weiterer Informationen an Ihren Lieferanten.
3.3 Entfernen festsitzender Banknoten
Ist eine Banknote im BC 231 SD eingeklemmt, trennen Sie das Gerät vom Stromnetz und öffnen die
o ere Verkleidung, um die Banknote(n) zu entfernen. Dann schließen Sie die Verkleidung und schalten
das Gerät wieder ein.
