The CertoClav Classic laboratory autoclave regulates heat through a combination of a thermostat and
a precision valve. The regulation is calibrated to pure steam, required proper evacuation of air. Time
can be conveniently regulated via the built in timer.

Safety devices
In this manual, the following headings are applied to items to which attention should be given:

Never manipulate on safety devices. Operate only controller and chamber of the same series.
Do not mix lid and chamber of different types of autoclaves.
Surfaces are hot while in operation (metal and plastic parts). Wear protective gloves.
Use only in accordance with this manual. Store the manual in a space accessible to all users.
Must not be installed in a space that is subject to the danger of explosions
Use only with rated voltage.
Only for use in laboratories. Operate only by trained personnel. Do not use in domestic settings.
Never operate without water. Target water amount: 1,5 liters (min.1 liter)
Do not autoclave tightly sealed containers (especially glass bottles) since there is no pressure
compensation.
Use only water for steam creation.
Do not release steam in the direction of a person – danger of burning. We recommend to connect a
temperature resistant hose (inner diameter 10mm) to release hot steam into a suitable container or
sink. We offer this hose and container as accessory: rt. no. 8582016 – hose 1.0m
If the pressure is released quickly when autoclaving liquids, there is a possibility that the liquid will boil.
I this should be avoided we recommend cooling the autoclave to 70°C before opening the valve.
If the running time too long it is danger of cooking dry and overheating. The autoclave could be
damaged. Check regularly water level.
Do not transport when filled. Do not open with force.
This autoclave must only be maintained by CertoClav or authorized retailers. lways use original
spare parts.

Installation instructions
1. Either put the autoclave on a table or the floor, so that you get a convenient work height.
2. Unpack the manometer and the steam release cock and mound them with gaskets by putting in
the holes and fix it with nut from inside of lid. These appliances have been packed separately to
avoid damage in transportation.
3. Mount the thermometer with gasket according to the instructions packed with.
4. Mount a tube/hose on the steam release valve, inner diameter 10 mm.
5. Plug in the mains cable to the socket on the back side.

Transportation
1. Check if the autoclave is cooled down and the chamber is completely empty.
2. When transporting the equipment, unmount the manometer and steam release cock and put them
into a separate shock resistant box.
3. Close the lid and slide the open/close lever into locked position to prevent the lid from opening
Operation
Read instructions before first use
The first run should be without load; only with water.
Do not autoclave tightly sealed containers (especially glass bottles) since there is no pressure
compensation.
Loading the autoclave
 Fill in 1.0 – 1.5 litres of water.
 Put in instrument tray and basket and place loading. It is important that steam can circulate freely.

Closing and locking
 Take the lid and make sure that the red knob is turned to open.
 Lid is put on 30° turned counter clockwise. Then turn the lid clockwise until the handles are in
line with each other.
 Turn the red knob to closed = locked.
 Open the steam release cock (turn black knob anti-clockwise).
 Optional: Connect tube to steam release cock.
 Turn the red maximum indicator of the manometer (pressure gauge) to "0".
 Pressure control valves with two temperatures have to be set to the desired temperature by
rotating cup until it comes to a stop. nticlockwise to 125°C / 115°C – and clockwise to 140°C
/ 121°C. Do NOT open the small screw on the regulating valve.
 Set the black thermostat knob to the same temperature as sterilization valve at the lid.

Heating up
Switch on the autoclave by turning the white timer knob clockwise to its always-on position.
If timer knob is set a position for continuous operation in this case the autoclave has to be switched off
manual. The time can be set after temperature is reached with timer. In this case the autoclave
switched off automatically after time run off.
15 – 20 minutes after switch on steam escapes through the steam release cock.
To insure sufficient air removal let the steam release cock open for 10 minutes than close it by turning
the black knob clockwise. Saturated steam will be built.
Now pressure and temperature rise according adjustment.
Sterilization / Holding time
 The sterilization time starts when temperature is reached. Steam could escape through the
pressure control valve. The indicator on the manometer should stay within the specified limits (red
or blue marking).
 You can now use the timer to set the holding time you need (e.g. 15 minutes to sterilize 500ml
culture media at 121°C)

 Pressure regulation is done by the pressure control valve, steam escapes in regular intervals.
 fter the end of sterilization time switch off by turning the timer knob to OFF. If you have used the
timer function, the unit switches off automatically.
 If timer function is not active, you have to switch off manual. Turn the knob to OFF.
If timer function is not active don’t forget to switch off, the autoclave could cook dry and overheat.
Make sure that enough water is in the chamber.
Energy is controlled by the thermostat. Make sure that the same temperature on valve and knob for
thermostat on the base is set, they work together.

Cooling down
Check that the manometer whether the black indicator shows to Zero. Check temperature at
thermometer. For solid loads, please wait until temperature is lower than 80°C. For fluid loads, please
wait until temperature is lower than 70°C.
S FETY HINT: If loading contains glass bottles wait until chamber temperature is below 80°C, for
liquids wait until temperature has reached 70°C = approx. 40 min. Danger of boiling over of fluids.
Opening
 Open the steam release cock (turn anticlockwise).
 Push & turn red knob to open position. Steam release valve will be opened. Steam escapes.
 Turn lid anticlockwise and remove.
 To get better drying of the loading remove the basket from the chamber and let it cool down to
room temperature before taking goods out.
S FETY HINT: INCOMPLETE CYCLES
Should the cycle interrupted caused by switch off or electrical failure or other reason – the sterilization
is not completed correct and has to be repeated. For opening please follow the safety hint for cooling
down.

Cleaning and maintenance
For CLE NING the appliance wipe inside and outside with a damp cloth. Never immerse the lid and
chamber of the unit in water.
Before start of cleaning or disinfection plug off mains cable and make sure that appliance has cooled
down.
For DISINFECTION of surface disinfection liquids with following substances are suitable:
Ethanol, Propyl alcohol, Isopropyl alcohol, Glutaraldehyde, quaternary ammonium compounds.
Please follow the application notes of the manufacturer for the cleaning and disinfection detergents.
Discolouration and stains occur when not using distilled water. These stains may block the pressure
control valve. Therefore, always use distilled water or demineralised water with tape water added.
To remove discolouration, add some citric acid to the aqua dest. and boil for about 10 minutes, do not
close the CertoClav. Empty the chamber immediately.
Never manipulate on safety devices. Operate only lid and chamber of the same series (Classic or
MultiControl). Do not mix.
Repairs on valves, safety features and electric must only be carried out by an appointed
CertoClav partner or by the manufacturer. Use original CertoClav spare parts only.
Every two years the unit should be checked by an appointed retailer or CertoClav.
Spare parts:
CERTOCL V SERVICE SET 2 – rt.Nr. 1310186.
It contains all spares which are under wear and tear and have to be replaced.

Mit dem CertoClav Classic kann ein Sterilisationsprozess bei wahlweise 125°C oder 140°C
durchgeführt werden. Mittels des alternativen Steuerungsventils kann ein Sterilisationsprozess bei
wahlweise 115°C oder 121°C durchgeführt werden.

Sicherheitshinweise
Niemals an Sicherheitseinrichtungen manipulieren. Nicht Deckeln und Kammern verschiedener Serien
zusammen verwenden.
Die Oberfläche des Gerätes (Metall und Kunststoff) wird im Betrieb heiß. Geeignete
Schutzhandschuhe verwenden.
Geräte nur entsprechend der Bedienungsanleitung verwenden. Bewahren Sie die
Bedienungsanleitung an einem Ort auf der allen Benutzern des Gerätes zugänglich ist.
Dieses Gerät darf nicht in explosionsgefährdeten Bereichen eingesetzt werden.
Gerät nur mit der vorgesehenen Netzspannung verwenden.
Nur für den Einsatz im Laborbereich durch fachlich geschultes Personal vorgesehen. Nicht im
Haushalt verwenden.
Gerät nie ohne Wasser in Betrieb nehmen. Gefahr von Trockenkochen und Überhitzung.
Überprüfen Sie den Wasserstand vor jeder Inbetriebnahme.
Füllstand Soll: 1,5 Liter (mindestens 1 Liter).
Keine fest verschlossenen Gefäße (besonders Glasflaschen) erhitzen, da kein Druckausgleich
vorhanden ist.
Zur Dampferzeugung nur Wasser verwenden.
Dampfablassen nicht in Personenrichtung - Verbrennungsgefahr. Montieren Sie einen
Temperaturbeständigen Schlauch (ø innen 10 mm) an den bdampfhahn, damit kann der heiße
Dampf direkt in ein Spülbecken/Gefäß abgeleitet werden. rtikel Nr. 8582016 - Schlauch 1,0m.
Beim utoklavieren von Flüssigkeiten besteht die Möglichkeit des Kochens der Flüssigkeit
(Siedeverzug), sofern der Dampf rasch manuell abgelassen wird. Um dies zu vermeiden sollten der
utoklav bei Zimmertemperatur ohne Öffnen eines Ventils bis 70°C abgekühlt werden.
Bei Betrieb mittels der Langzeitzyklen Gefahr von Trockenkochen und Überhitzung. Der utoklav wird
beschädigt. Regelmäßig Wasserstand prüfen.
Gerät nicht in gefülltem Zustand transportieren.
Das Gerät darf nur durch die Firma CertoClav Sterilizer GmbH oder von ihr autorisierten Personen
(Fachbetrieb oder Kundendienst) unter Verwendung von Originalersatzteilen und unter Beachtung der
Serviceanweisung instandgesetzt werden.

Montage
 Die ufstellung erfolgt unkompliziert, entweder auf einem Tisch oder am Boden, sodass eine
ideale rbeitshöhe gegeben ist.
 Manometer und bdampfhahn auspacken und mit der Dichtung durch die Öffnungen links und
rechts am Deckel stecken, mit der Mutter von der Deckelinnenseite fixieren.
 Das Thermometer auspacken und mit der Dichtung vorsichtig und gerade in das Gewinde
drehen. Siehe beigepacktes Blatt „Montageanleitung Thermometer“.
 n den bdampfhahn einen Schlauch montieren, Innendurchmesser 10 mm.
 Das Netzkabel an der Steckdose am Sockel anstecken.
