Overview
The Lift aster yQ Smart Garage Hub is a kit that allows dealers to integrate a wide range of Garage Door Openers
with a customer's Alarm.com account, enabling all of the same remote functionality as the Lift aster retrofit kit on a
broader range of devices. This solution allows almost any garage door to integrate with Alarm.com through the
LiftMaster Integration/Garage Door & Gate Control add-on.
It supports two non- yQ garage doors when coupled with a tilt sensor and up to 16 yQ devices, such as a yQ
Control Panel (888L /889L ) or yQ-enabled motor. It has one wired connection: AC power. It connects wirelessly to
the customer's home network, and the connection is configured via smartphone or PC.
Additionally, it has a speaker and a strobe light/flasher to alert users when the door is closing both audibly and visually,
as is required by modern building codes. These are not able to be disabled.
Getting started
Required equipment for installation
• Ladder.
• Wi-Fi network name and password.
Important: A sufficient 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi signal in the garage is required. For weak signal strength remedies, see

• Lift aster yQ Smart Garage Hub (821L , 821L B, or yQ-G0301).
• Door sensor (Each Hub supports two door sensors).
• Compatible garage door opener/motor. For more information, see Compatible Openers.
• Partner Portal or Customer Website access through a laptop, tablet, or mobile device.

is a small tilt sensor that is installed on the top panel of the garage door on the inside of the garage. When it is in a
vertical position, the sensor reads as Closed, and when it is in a horizontal position it reads as Open.
The yQ Door Sensor uses a 3 volt CR2450 Lithium battery. Battery level is measured by the yQ Smart Garage Hub
as the number of cycles (up and down) that the sensor has transmitted since it was first learned into a yQ Smart
Garage Hub. The yQ Garage Door Sensor reports low battery at 7,000 cycles. It typically stops functioning due to
battery depletion after about 10,000 cycles.
The sensor communicates with the hub via Bluetooth. This gives it an operating range of about 30 feet from the hub.
Important: The door sensor must be mounted prior to connecting the yQ Smart Garage Hub to Alarm.com.
There are two Door Sensor installation methods:
Method 1: Use fastening strips
To install the door sensor using fastening strips:
• Position the door sensor vertically and attach to a clean, dry location on the top panel of the garage door with
fastening strips (provided).
Method 2: Use screws
To install the door sensor using screws:
1. Press in the bottom of the door sensor and remove the front cover.
2. Position the door sensor vertically and attach to the top panel of the garage door with screws (provided).
3. Replace the front cover.

Mount the MyQ Smart Garage Hub
Note: Final positioning can wait until after setup is complete. If chosen to mount the yQ Smart Garage Hub first, write
down the serial number on the back of the hub to be used later.
1. Install the bracket for yQ Smart Garage Hub on the ceiling near the garage door opener, but not too close as to
cause interference. It should not be mounted in a spot that will cause it to be covered by the overhead door when it
is open, as this can cause interference with its Wi-Fi signal.
◦ Use the bracket as a template and mark holes for the bracket.
◦ Drill 5/32” pilot holes and install the bracket using provided hardware. Be sure the yQ Smart Garage Hub is
visible when standing in the doorway of the garage so that users can see the flashing light when the door is
closing.
2. Slide the yQ Smart Garage Hub on to the bracket.
3. Connect to AC power.
4. The LEDs blink momentarily to indicate a successful power up.
Note: yQ® technology has a range of 1,500 feet (open field).
Important: The yQ Smart Garage Hub must be positioned so that the light on the hub is visible from the doorway of
the garage.

Setup Wi-Fi on the MyQ® Garage MyQ Smart Garage Hub
The Lift aster yQ Smart Garage Hub can be connected to Wi-Fi using an Internet connected device, WPS, or
Bluetooth (iPhone users only).
Method 1: Using Internet Connected Device
1. ake note of the home 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi’s network name and its associated security key/password.
2. Plug in the yQ Smart Garage Hub. The Blue LED blinks.
Note: If the LED is not blinking blue, follow the instructions on Reset or change wireless information on a yQ
Smart Garage Hub.
3. Verify Wi-Fi is enabled on the laptop, tablet, or mobile device.
4. Locate the list of available Wi-Fi networks and select MyQ-nnn network. The nnn is the last three digits of the yQ
Smart Garage Hub’s serial number.
◦ Android typically shows internet not available after selecting the MyQ-nnn network. This is expected, and if it
gives the option to Ignore or Cancel, click Ignore.

◦ Once the phone is connected to the MyQ-nnn network, the blue light on the yQ Smart Garage Hub goes
from blinking blue to a solid blue LED.
5. Launch the mobile device’s web browser and enter setup.myqdevice.com into the web browser’s address bar. If
unable to load try using a different browser.
◦ Alternatively, enter setup.myqhome.com or 192.168.0.1 in the URL bar to navigate to the same web page.
Note: Always type in the full URL address, do not let it auto complete, and do not type www or Https before
the web address.
6. Follow the steps in the yQ® Wi-Fi Setup page to complete the setup. It is required to enter the Wi-Fi name and
password for the home network.
7. When prompted, do not install the yQ® Garage app. When the LED light is solid green, Wi-Fi connection has
been established and close the internet browser.
Additional considerations
The following are some additional tips when enrolling the yQ Smart Garage Hub using an internet-connected device:
1. For Android devices, use the default browser for the phone, if available. If Chrome is used, launch a new browser
and do not use an already open web page.
2. Android devices have Smart Network Switch, and Apple devices have Wi-Fi Assist switch. These features take the
device off a Wi-Fi network that the phone deems poor, and connect the device to their cellular data, which
removes the device from the MyQ-nnn network. Verify that Smart Network or Wi-Fi Assist switch are disabled.
3. If the phone keeps connecting to the home or another Wi-Fi network, select to Forget the Wi-Fi network so it stays
connected to the MyQ-nnn network.
Important: Verify the SSID and password is known for the selected network to forget.
Method 2: Using WPS
1. Put the Hub into WPS mode: With Hub powered and Blue LED blinking, press and release the Hub’s
button. The Hub’s Blue LED turns on solid.
Note: If the LED is not blinking blue, follow the instructions on Reset or change wireless information on a yQ
Smart Garage Hub.
2. Within one minute, press and release the WPS button on the router.
3. Within a few minutes, the Hub connects to the network. The Green LED turns on solid to indicate successful
connection.

Method 3: Using Bluetooth (iPhone users only)
1. Plug in the yQ Smart Garage Hub. The Blue LED blinks.
Note: If the LED is not blinking blue, follow the instructions on Reset or change wireless information on a yQ
Smart Garage Hub.
2. Connect the Apple® mobile device to the Wi-Fi network.
3. On the Apple® mobile device, go to Settings > Bluetooth, and turn on Bluetooth.
4. Find the Bluetooth yQ-nnn device and select yQ-nnn device to pair. The nnn is the last 3 digits of the yQ
Smart Garage Hub’s serial number.
Note: If the phone believes the Hub is not connected to the internet, try forgetting the device before pairing. To do
this, select the blue information icon to the right of the device name and select forget this device. The yQ-nnn
device reappears for pairing in few seconds.
5. When prompted, allow phone to share Wi-Fi network settings with the yQ Smart Garage Hub (this may take a
minute). When the LED light turns green the device has successfully connected to the Wi-Fi network.
Important: Do not choose to install the Lift aster iPhone application.

1. Verify the LED on the Hub is solid green before registering through obile Tech.
2. Log into the obileTech app.
3. Find the customer account.
4. Flick up and tap Package. Verify the Garage Door & Gate Control and LiftMaster Integration add-ons are included.
5. On the Home page, tap Equipment.
6. Tap LiftMaster Devices.
7. Tap Add Gateway and enter the yQ Smart Garage Hub’s serial number.
Note: The serial number can be found at the back of the Hub below the barcode. Please wait patiently as this
process may take several minutes.
8. After a few minutes, the Lift aster Gateway should appear in the equipment list.
9. To view the equipment list, tap followed by Equipment.
10. In LiftMaster Devices, tap the name of the yQ Smart Garage Hub that was just added.
11. Tap Add Device.
12. Select MyQ Wall Control,MyQ-Enabled garage door opener, or non-MyQ-Enabled garage door
opener depending on the equipment being used.
13. Tap Continue.
14. Follow the instructions presented in the wizard to add both door tilt sensors and garage door openers themselves
to the system.
Note: The G821L B-2SENSOR (red LED) communicates using RF and can be programmed into the 821L B
natively or the 821L and yQ-G0301 with the latest firmware. Please refer to Chamberlain's support
resources for questions about hub firmware. The 821L -SENSOR (yellow LED) uses a Bluetooth signal and
should only be programmed into the 821L or yQ-G0301.
◦ When adding a wall control, the internet gateway will be put into learn mode. Locate the learn button on the
wall control, then press the learn button twice to pair the wall control with your internet gateway. The red LED
on the control panel will light up. After pressing the learn button twice, tap Continue.
◦ When adding a yQ-enabled garage door opener, locate the learn button on the garage door opener.
Typically, this button can be found close to the wiring ports on the garage door opener. Press and hold the
learn button for two seconds to initiate pairing. The learn LED on the garage door opener will light up once
pairing has been initiated. After pressing the learn button, wait ten seconds, then tap Continue.
◦ When adding a non- yQ-enabled garage door opener, select a brand and the color of the program button,
then tap Continue for device-specific instructions.
Important: The 821L may attempt multiple frequencies to connect with the garage door opener. Please
allow for all attempts to be completed to ensure the correct frequency is found for the garage door opener.
