C8 UTC Worldtimer
Aviation is something we take for granted,
thinking nothing about circling the globe in
ying metal tubes and meeting colleagues
for lunch on a dierent continent. But the
new Christopher Ward C8 UTC Worldtimer
reminds us of the wonder of ying: linking
the design of classic military aviation with
the possibilities of modern jet travel in one
ingenious, and very beautiful, watch.
The watch takes its design cues from the rest of the
C8 Flyer Collection, which references the Smith's
Mark II A clock used in Spitres during World War
II. All carry engravings of the historic aviation wind
tunnels in Farnborough where the aerodynamics
of British aircraft like the Spitre and Concorde
were honed.
Perhaps the most striking feature of the timepiece is
the two-piece dial, which features a crown-operated
worldtimer bezel showing prominent international
cities, meaning the wearer can immediately work
out the time anywhere on Earth. For those looking to
keep track of one timezone in particular, the 24-hour
UTC hand will be an invaluable tool.
The military feel is continued with the large Arabic
numerals, raised indexes and ‘pipette’ hands, all of
which are coated with Super-Luminova for visibility
at low light.

How to operate your C8 UTC Worldtimer
The crown should sit ush to the case (position 1 )
in order to maintain water resistance.
• To re-power the watch after a period of non-use,
simply wind the crown in a clockwise direction.
Your C8 UTC Worldtimer has a maximum power
reserve of 42 hours when fully wound. Normal
wearing will allow the rotor to start re-powering
the watch over time after putting it on your wrist
• Pull gently into position
2 . For rapid date
correction, turn in an anti-clockwise direction.
To set the 24-hour UTC hand, turn in a
clockwise direction.
• To set the time pull out the crown gently into
position
3 . This position is used for handsetting
and stopping of the second hand. Turn the crown
until you reach the correct time e.g. 10.08 hr.
For precise time setting it is recommended to
pass beyond the desired minute and to set the
hand backwards.
PLEASE NOTE: Date correction should not
be carried out between 20.00 hr and 02.00 hr
as the watch gearing will already be aligning
itself to change the date.

How to use the UTC hand if you’re travelling
Set the time in your new destination by pulling the
top crown (A) into position 3 and move the hour/
minute hands until they indicate the desired time.
Push crown into position 2 and wind, clockwise,
the UTC hand around the inner 24-hour dial ring
until you have the right time at home. E.g If you’re
travelling from London at 12:10 to New York (Figure 1),
you would turn the hour/minute hands to 7:10
(NY time is ve hours behind London) and wind the
UTC hand around to the 12:00 position (Figure 2).
Once set, it means that, for example, you can ring
your friends and family without waking them in
the middle of the night.

How to use the UTC hand if you’re staying at home
If you have relatives or work colleagues in another
timezone, you can use the UTC hand to mark what
time it is in their country. Just gently pull the top
crown (A) into position 2, then use the 24-hour dial
ring (note the contrasting ‘day’, and ‘night’ sections)
to set the time there. E.g. If the UTC in London is
12:05, in Australia it would be 22:05 (+10 hours).
