Compaq Management CD
The Compaq Management CD provides the Compaq Insight Manager and
Compaq Server Management Agents software. The CD also provides
information about the software and hardware required for remote management
of a server. The CD covers how to use the Compaq Insight Manager features,
such as reboot control, server failure alerting, and paging capabilities.

Do not disable the power cord grounding plug. The
grounding plug is an important safety feature.
Plug the power cord into a grounded (earthed) electrical
outlet that is easily accessible at all times.
Install the power supply before connecting the power cord to
the power supply.
Unplug the power cord before removing the power supply
from the server.
If the system has multiple power supplies, disconnect power
from the system by unplugging all power cords from the

system upgrades and maintenance. Optimized for expansion, high availability,
and ease-of-service, the ProLiant 6000 redefines value in business-critical

The following features are available on Compaq ProLiant 6000 models.
Processor and Redundant
Processor Power Modules
■Supports up to four processors and four redundant processor power
modules
■Evaporator plate and water-cooled heat pipes attached to the processor
■One redundant processor power module per processor
IMPORTANT: You cannot mix Pentium III Xeon processors in a server that
has Pentium II Xeon processors.
System Memory
■ECC (Error Checking and Correcting Memory) with single-bit error
correction and detection down to a single DIMM and multi-bit error
detection down to the memory bank
■Expandable to 8 GB (32 x 256-MB DIMMs)
■Supports up to eight memory banks with each bank consisting of four
DIMMs. One bank is installed or removed at a time. Each DIMM of a
given bank must be the same size, type, and speed.
■Supports EDO 60ns or faster DIMMs
■Performance enhancement by configuring your memory to take
advantage of address bit permuting

Ten I/O expansion slots and three 33-MHz PCI
■Five 64-bit PCI slots (PCI Bus 3)
■Four 32-bit PCI slots (PCI Buses 1 and 2)
■One ISA modem slot
IMPORTANT: Slot 1 of the I/O board is dedicated to ISA Modem support.
Only install an ISA Modem into Slot 1 of the I/O board.
Internal Hot Plug Drive Bays
■Supports up to three hard-drive cages that can be configured with six 1-
inch hot-plug hard drives, four 1.6-inch hot-plug hard drives, or a

Disk Controllers
Supported disk controllers include:
■Smart Array 3100ES Controllers provide high performance and RAID
fault-tolerance. The Smart Array 3100ES Controller requires no cables
and provides three Wide-Ultra SCSI-3 buses for use with internal mass
storage. SCSI cables are pre-installed at Wide-Ultra SCSI-3 connectors
on the I/O board and staged for attachment to each internal hot-plug
hard-drive cage.
■Dual Integrated Wide-Ultra SCSI-3 controllers provide two Wide-Ultra
SCSI-3 connectors for use with internal removable media drive bays and
internal hard-drive cages.
■Integrated Wide-Ultra SCSI-3 controllers provide one Wide-Ultra SCSI-
3 external connector for use with external mass storage devices.
Each Wide-Ultra SCSI-3 controller performs at a maximum data transfer rate of
40 MB/s. For more information on supported disk controller options, refer to
the Storage and Options Documentations Library CD or the ProLiant 6000

Network Controller
■Supports dual-port 10/100 TX UTP controllers on the PCI local bus.
Features of this controller include two RJ-45 connectors for 10BaseT or
100TX Ethernet.
■Redundant Network Controller software that supports a redundant NIC
configuration is available on the Compaq Support Software CD that was
shipped with your server. This feature may be used with one dual-port,
two dual-port, or two single-port NICs.
NOTE: Remove the terminator plug from the second RJ-45 connector when
using the dual-port capabilities.
