iii. QUICK START-MAKING CONNECTIONS WITH BRIC-LINK
This secon skips over many of the details concerning the conguraon of remote connecons with BRIC-Link, and
focuses instead on the minimum informaon needed to establish a connecon. BRIC-Link connecons with the use
of the Switchboard server will be covered.
MORE ABOUT PROFILES
Refer to Page 31 for more informaon about creang proles on BRIC-Link. Proles, once created, can be assigned
to any remote connecon on the Connecons page. BRIC-Link ships with several popular proles pre-programmed
by default, and has the ability to create custom proles. For the purposes of this Quick Start, use the system default
prole, which won’t require changes to the factory default sengs. This factory-default prole uses the Opus mono
encoder in both direcons of the link.
LOGGING IN
Aer determining the IP Address of the BRIC-Link, open any computer’s web browser on the same network as
BRIC-Link. Type the IP address in the browser URL to navigate to the BRIC-Link’s web interface. Log in to BRIC-Link
with any user name and, if it has not been changed, the default password “comrex” (lowercase).
FIGURE 3 WEB INTERFACE LOGIN
MAKING SWITCHBOARD CONNECTIONS
On the Web Interface, select the “Connecons” Tab. This Tab will populate with a list of available remote codecs to
call. When the BRIC-Link is “synced” with Switchboard, connecons to other codecs in a user’s Switchboard account
are simple. Go to the lisngs on the boom that appear with a “Gear” icon on the le side. Any units with a Green

18
Gear icon are available for Switchboard connecons. Highlight them and select the “Connect” buon on the right
side of the screen to iniate a connecon.

RECEIVING INCOMING CONNECTIONS
By default, BRIC-Link is set to automacally answer incoming calls, whether or not Switchboard is used to make
them. Incoming calls will appear in your connecons list while they are acve. They can be disconnected locally by
highlighng them and clicking “Disconnect”.

Firmware updates for the BRIC-Link should be handled using Comrex , a Windows- and MAC
OS-executable program that can be downloaded from the Comrex website. can also be used for
license installaon and IP conguraon.
Please note: In order to congure a BRIC-Link unit for the rst me (without knowing the unit’s IP address),
must be run on a computer located on the same network (e.g. physical LAN connecon) as the unit itself.
If this is not possible, an Ethernet crossover connecon between the BRIC-Link and a computer should be used for
conguraon.
As shown in 6, running the and clicking the “” buon will produce a list of all Comrex
devices found on the LAN. If the default password has changed, will prompt for the password to
BRIC-Link aer the scan.
shows the four tabs that appear on the right-hand pane aer has logged in. The fourth
tab is labelled . This will open a simplied setup interface on the BRIC-Link called . The
interface allows for conguraon of several opons including the Ethernet port. Log in to with a
username (any) and password (default = ) to enter the .
Once logged into , choose the opon and then choose . Choose
the Ethernet port that appears in the list, which will look like .

20
Generally, it is recommended to congure the Ethernet port of a BRIC-Link for a stac IP. This will facilitate access
to the with a browser and allow for easier conguraon of routers or rewalls (if necessary).
If the BRIC-Link is to be installed on a managed LAN, Comrex recommends consulng with the IT services provider
about obtaining a stac IP address.
As menoned in the previous secon, the BRIC-Link is congured for by default. This means that it tries to
extract an unused IP address from the network router upon boong. To change the Ethernet IP addressing to ,
select the “” locaon at the boom of the list and change the “” to . The system will prompt a
list of stac sengs as shown in (on the following page).
As can be seen in the stac IP address, the Netmask, the Gateway Address, and at least one DNS Server
Address must be congured in the proper elds to set a stac IP address. Once that informaon has been inpued,
click the “” buon and select to have the BRIC-Link accept and acvate the new Ethernet
sengs. Note that if the IP sengs of the Ethernet port have been changed, the connecon to the
interface will no longer work. Click the “” buon on to re-sync with the new IP address.
