Important Safety Instructions
SKILL LEVEL: ADVANCED
This product is an advanced level project and requires detailed knowledge of the mechanical nature of a 3D printer.
Throughout the project, you will be challenged at many levels in order to successfully complete the project.
Machine Safety
Never reach into the machine’s working area while it is running. Always shut off and unplug the printer to perform
maintenance, adjustments, or repairs.
Sharp Edges
Some parts may have sharp edges and care should be exercised when handling all metal parts. Should you discover
sharp edges, the best treatment is a sanding block of 80 grit sandpaper. Carefully rub the edges with the sandpaper
until the sharp edge is reduced to a friendly edge.
Electrical Wiring
The increased size of the printer will necessitate lengthening some of the wires for the printer’s power supply, motors
and end-stop switches. Suitable replacement wires have been included in your kit; however, you may need to trim, cut
wires and crimp wire connectors. These steps require tools that are not included in the kit. These tools will be identified
in the Required Tools section. Care should be taken that all connections are secure before powering on the printer.
FIRMWARE CHANGES
This kit expands the build volume of your printer. You may be required to update the firmware to take advantage of the
new build volume.
Ender Extender does not provide support for firmware changes. Consult the numerous Youtube videos; utilize google
search; and seek assistance in the many Facebook user groups for assistance if you are unfamiliar with this process.

BEFORE YOU BEGIN
Take many pictures of your 3D printer, especially detail areas such as motors, wire connections, switches, screws, nuts,
belts, etc. While we have included detailed photos of every step, it is very helpful for you to recall how your specific
printer was set up prior to disassembly in preparation for installing the kit.
Inventory all parts of the kit before disassembly of your printer. You may need to print a missing part, or if there is an
issue with the kit contents, there may be a delay in addressing the problem.
Ender 5 Machine Overview
In order to successfully install the Ender Extender 5XL kit, it is necessary to review the overall machine structure to
become familiar with several of the parts within the kit. The standard parts of concern are:

Step 2: Ender 5 Non-Pro and Pro Differences
Key differences between the Ender 5 Non-Pro and Pro 3D printers exist primarily in the lead screw of the Z axis.
Although not a certainty, it is believed that earlier versions of the Ender 5 were delivered with a four start lead screw.
This type of lead screw will allow the print platform to lower easily on its own after power is turned off. It is believed
that with the release of the Ender 5 Pro, Creality adopted a two start lead screw which reduces this tendency for the
platform to “self-lower”.
Step 3: Disassemble the Ender 5
Although there may seem to be several parts included in your kit, installation of the kit is actually rather simple. Minimal
disassembly is required. So, get out those tools, grab your favorite beverage, and let’s get to work!
Work smart! Put those screws in a container so you do not lose them.

Loosen smooth rod mounting screws (4x)
from top and bottom supports.

Remove the M3 screws (4x) and nuts from
the lead screw brass nut

The black carriage plate is ready to be
removed.

Remove the left/ride flange bearings
We will re-use these parts, keep them
handy.
Set the black carriage plate aside.

Loosen but do not remove the lead screw

Be careful! Do not strip the head.
Remove the lead screw from the coupler
Set the lead screw aside, it will not be
reused.

Remove Top front frame member
Remove the M5 (2x) screw at the top front
corners

bracket supporting the top front frame

Clean and lubricate the rods and bearings.
It is highly recommended to clean the rods,
lead screw and bearings.
Lubricate with your choice of grease.

Insert bearings into the four corners and
attach screws.
Do not tighten the screws at this time.

Locate the brass nuts and screws. You
should have two brass nuts and a total of
eight screws (original + kit provided)

Attach the brass nuts and screws. The brass
nuts should mount from the underside of
the plate with the long cylinder portion
pointing down.
Do not tighten the screws at this time.

Affix the M5 lock washers to the M5x20
hex cap screws
Insert the M5x20 hex cap screws into the
left and right holes in the rod mounting
bracket
Attach the M5 t-slot nuts, leave enough
room for mounting on the printer frame
