WARNING
Read this entire safety manual prior to operating the
Draincables Direct Valor. Make sure to understand all
instructions and guidelines. Failure to follow instruc-
tions listed in the manual may result in electric shock,
fire, serious personal injury and/or death.
SAFETY INFORMATION
It is important to know the DCD Vortex Mini fully
prior to operation. Failure to properly operate
machine may result in electric shock, serious
personal injury and/or death. Please adhere to
common safety practices while operating your
machine.
Do not use with corded drills, hammer drills, or
impact drivers.
Do not allow the chain knocker/end of cable to stop
while drill trigger is engaged. This can over-torque
the cable and may cause damage to the cable as-
sembly and may result in serious personal injury.
The Vortex Mini should only be used for appro-
priate drain sizes. Using the wrong size cable and
chain knocker can lead to damage of the cable
and may result in personal injury.
Please keep hand on the sheathing whenever the
Vortex Mini is in use. This provides better control
of the cable and helps minimize damage to the
cable and reduces the risk of injury.
Place the Vortex Mini within a meter of the drain
opening or properly support exposed cable
assembly when the distance exceeds a meter.
Distances greater than a meter can cause con-
trol problems such as damage to the cable, which
then could lead to personal injury.
This machine is made for drains experiencing
obstructions. Do not use on drains in good condition.
Do not use machine near gas lines.
PERSONAL SAFETY
Maintain alertness at all times when operating
machinery. Do not use machine when tired or
under the influence of medications, drugs or
alcohol. Doing so may result in serious personal
injury and/or death.
Do not wear loose clothing or jewelry and contain
long hair whenever operating machinery. Keep-
ing loose objects, clothing and hair away from
moving parts helps to prevent injury.
To avoid accidentally starting machine, insure
the power switch is in the OFF position. Having
fingers too close while carrying, or having switch
in the FOR/REV position when plugging in, can
result in accidents causing serious personal injury
and/or death.
Maintain proper footing and balance at all times
when operating machine. This allows for better
control of machine in unexpected situations.
Always wear appropriate attire. Safety glasses,
dust masks, non-skid shoes, hard hat, hearing pro-
tections, ect. appropriate for working conditions.
Follow all instructions on use of machine found in
this manual. Other uses, or modifying the use of
this machine for other applications will increase
the risk of serious personal injury and/or death.

and tighten chuck.
3. Set drill to ¼ of maximum clutch setting – DO
NOT USE HAMMER DRILL SETTING.
4. Lay Vortex Mini on its back for operation.

6. Feed cable and sheathing into drain, proceed
past blockage before activating the drill.
7. Once past obstruction, operate drill in FOR-
WARD direction at maximum trigger pull be-
fore re-entering obstruction.
8. Slowly clear obstruction while retracting ca-
ble back into the drum.
9. Once pipe is clear, release trigger prior to
pulling chain knocker out of the pipe.
OPTIONAL: If possible, have water running while
obstruction is being cleared to help flush debris.
DESCALING CAST IRON PIPE:
1. Insert cordless drill on adjustable drill bracket
and tighten strap over battery.
2. Insert drill adapter from cable into drill chuck
and tighten chuck.
3. Set drill to ¼ of maximum clutch setting – DO
NOT USE HAMMER DRILL SETTING.
4. Lay Vortex Mini on its back for operation.
5. Attach carbide knocker using supplied set

6. Starting at furthest section of cast iron pipe,
operate drill in FORWARD direction and at full
trigger while retracting cable back into drum.
7. Heavy line flushing must occur to prevent
stoppage of line while descaling.
OPTIONAL: Use camera to ensure satisfaction
with de-scaling of pipe.
OPTIONAL: Descaling wears carbide chains faster
than non-carbide chains.
TROUBLESHOOTING
Do not enter cable into stoppage without drill at
full trigger.
A camera can be run simultaneously with the
Vortex Mini – keep chain knocker at least 12 inches
in front of camera to prevent damage to camera
head or pushrod.
Plain chain knockers are for general use, including
grease.
Carbide chain knockers are for use in cast-iron
de-scaling.

MAINTENANCE
Use towel to wipe debris while retracting cable
into drum.
Cable installed is pre-lubricated. If additional
lubrication is necessary: lay machine on back,
remove any chain knockers or cutters, add
lubricant at operating end of cable and run drill
in REVERSE to distribute lubricant throughout
cable.
In the event of excessive debris buildup in the
drum, remove drill, cable, and feed tube (remove
snap ring on back of machine to release). Machine
can be flushed with water and mild detergent and
wiped out with cloth. Let dry completely before
re-assembly.
CABLE REPLACEMENT
1. Extend cable so that it is no longer coiled in
the drum.
2. Loosen drill chuck and release drive adapter
from drill.
3. Using flat head screwdriver, release the cable
clamp on top of machine by inserting where
indicated on clamp and opening.
4. Remove cable by pulling through drum
opening and feed tube, being aware of areas
where the drill adapter may get caught.
5. Insert new cable drill adapter first through
feed tube. Thread through side opening of
drum and toward top of machine.
6. To ensure proper positioning of cable: attach
drill adapter to installed drill, then secure
cable in clamp by closing and firmly pressing
on top of clamp.
7. Lay machine on back and feed rest of cable
into the drum. Note: cable should feed in a
counterclockwise spiral.
8. Attach necessary chain knocker and operate.
