3. Description of function
3.1 General information
The FP 250/400/500B with ext. battery compartment is designed as an extremely compact double
piston pump for autonomous operation with grease as lubricant. The two pistons run force-con-
trolled and counter-rotating. The FP 250/400/500B with ext. battery compartment is available as a
version with one lubricant outlet or as a version with two lubricant outlets. The outlets are secured
by an integrated non-return valve. Approx. 0.15 cm³ of lubricant is pumped during each dispens-
ing operation; multiple dispensers can be set one after the other.
The LCD on the front panel displays the various operating states; further information (empty car-
tridge, error) can be read.
The present FlexxPump4 as battery version has no electrical interface. The supplied activation
and programming key can be used to adjust the quantity of grease pumped per time to supply the
lubrication point with the ideal quantity of lubricant.
 The FP 250/400/500B with ext. battery compartment is equipped with an external battery
compartment from the factory. Two battery holders are also included in the scope of delivery.
Depending on requirements, either the DLS Schmiersysteme GmbH battery pack 6V, or your own
primary cells or rechargeable batteries in sizes R6 (AA) or R14 (baby cells), each with 1.5V vol-
tage, can be used to supply the FP 250/400/500B with ext. battery compartment with power. The
enclosed battery holders are necessary for this.

The FP 250/400/500B with ext. battery compartment is available in several di󰀨erent versions.
They di󰀨er in the design (upper part for 250ml cartridge or upper part for 400ml cartridge), the
number and type of lubricant outlets, and the scope of accessories supplied. In addition, two
battery holders for battery sizes R6 and R14 are included in the scope of delivery of the FP
250/400/500B with ext. battery compartment.

5.2 Assemblyandinitiallling
1. Condition as delivered
The FP 250/400/500B with ext. battery compart-
ment is delivered in a cardboard box. Depending
on the version ordered, additional accessories
such as a battery pack or lubricant cartridge are
included.
2. Mechanical fastening
Attach the FP 250/400/500B with ext. battery
compartment mechanically to the mounting plate
using the through holes.

3. Unscrewing the cartridge cap.
Unscrew the cap of the new lubricant cartridge
counterclockwise and pull it o󰀨.
Before mounting the cartridge, press lightly on
the piston to squeeze out some grease from the
outlet.
Pay attention to cleanliness when performing
the work. Be sure to avoid dirt, liquids, and foreign
objects from entering the cartridge.
3. Remove the housing from the power unit
of the FP 250/400/500B with ext. battery compart-
ment.
Turn the retaining ring counterclockwise in or-
der to remove the upper housing from the power
unit.
Remove the upper housing from the power unit.
Make sure that no dirt, water or foreign
bodies enters the lubricant cartridge.
Losen the retaining ring at the marked posi-
tions.

4. Mounting the lubricant cartridge
 Place the lled lubricant cartridge on the FP
250/400/500B with ext. battery compartment with
the label facing forwards.
Turn the lubricant cartridge clockwise onto the
FP 250/400/500B with ext. battery compartment.
 The end position is reached after two full ro-
tations when the label of the lubricant cartridge is
aligned with the front of the FP 250/400/500B with
ext. battery compartment.
5. Mount the upper housing from the pump unit of
the FP 250/400/500B with ext. battery compart-
ment.
Place the disassembled upper part on the FP
250/400/500B with ext. battery compartment and
press it onto the pump unit.
Fasten the upper housingto the pump unit by
turning the retaining ring clockwise.
 The retaining ring must click into place when
turned and must be completely tightened.

6. Loosen the screws and remove the cover to
open the battery compartment.
Turn the four screws counterclockwise. Once
the screws are loosened, the cover can be remo-
ved.
Remove the cover from the battery compart-
ment.
Store the cover next to you.
7. Inserting the battery packs
Connect the new battery to the battery cable
via the reverse polarity protected plug or insert
new batteries into the matching battery holder and
connect it to the reverse polarity protected plug.
Stow the battery and the battery cable in the
battery compartment.
Make sure that the battery cable or the plug
does not protrude from the battery compartment
and become trapped when the cover is screwed
on.
7. Remount the cover
Place the cover on the battery compartment.
Turn the screws clockwise to fasten.




7.2 Changingcartridgeandbattery
The cartridge only needs to be changed when it is empty or the service life of the lubricant has
been exceeded. The cartridge can be changed during normal operation of the FP 250/400/500B
with ext. battery compartment.
There is a error (error E1) on the FP 250/400/500B with ext. battery compartment; the red LED
ashes every 5 seconds and also visually signals an error.

Turn the lubricant cartridge counterclockwise
from the FP4 B and dispose of it.

eign bodies from entering the cartridge.

counterclockwise and pull it o󰀨.
Before mounting the cartridge, press lightly on
the piston to squeeze out some grease from the
outlet.

Carry out the work according to the above description.
If an error was displayed in the LCD before the cartridge was changed, the indicator now di-
sappears, as does the red LED which ashes every 5 seconds. A separate acknowledgement is
not required. The green LED ashes briey every 60 seconds.
After completion of this work, the FP4 B automatically returns to the last active mode (ON or
OFF) before the work.
If the empty cartridge level (error E1) has been reached during a dispensing cycle, the cycle
will be automatically interrupted and automatically continued after completion of the work.

The battery can be changed during normal operation of the FP 250/400/500B with ext. battery
compartment.
FP 250/400/500B with external battery compartment shows Error E3; the red LED flashes every
5 seconds.
In the following steps is described how you change the battery.
1. Loosen the screws and remove the cover to
open the battery compartment.
Turn the four screws counterclockwise. Once
the screws are loosened, the cover can be remo-
ved.
Remove the cover from the battery compart-
ment.
Store the cover next to you.
2. Remove empty battery pack.
Pull the empty battery pack or battery holder
out of the battery compartment with the battery
cable.
If using the battery pack, disconnect the rever-
se polarity protected plug connection and dispose
of the empty battery pack properly after comple-
ting the work.
When using your own batteries, remove them
from the battery holder.
