1.Introduction
1.1 Package Contents
Open the package carefully, and make sure that none of the items listed below are missing.
zEdimax HP-8501 x 1
zQuick Installation Guide x 1
zCD-ROM (with Management Utility) x 1
zEthernet RJ-45 Cable x 1
Note：CD-ROM with the management Utility could help you to manager all of the HP-8501 in the
LAN. The Utility is not necessary when you use the internet via HP-8501. If you need to know the
function of Utility , you can study the manual in the CD-ROM.
If any item is missing or damaged, please contact your local resellers for service.
Attention: It is recommended to keep the original packing materials, in case of product service;
the returned product shall be packed in the original or equivalent materials to protect it from
damage during delivery.
1.2 Hardware Introduction and Installation

Application:
Please setup your HP-8501 as the following map .
One HP-8501 connect with ADSL modem or IP share .
The other HP-8501( You can use another device which supports powerline) connect with your
PC .

2. Utility
There is a Utility in the CD-ROM , you can click “Setup Utility” to install . The Utility can help you
to manager the Powerline devices in the LAN . The device is able to detect other powerline
devices which is on the same power circuit automatically. You only need to install.this utility
program when you want to enable the encrypt function of Powerline Extender to secure your
data, or you have problem connecting other powerline devices.
Please verify that no other Powerline Management Utilities are installed before installing this
product. If other utilities are installed, uninstall them and restart before installing this software.
To install, insert the HP-8501’s CD-ROM into the computer's CD-ROM drive. The Setup utility
shall run automatically. Alternatively this can also be done manually by double clicking the
setup.exe file on the CD. The CD will launch an installation utility similar to the one shown in
Figure 1.
Click the Next button to continue.

After you finish the Utility installation , you can double click the following icon to enable the Utility
This screen shot shows a Powerline Ethernet device( HP-8501 ) connected as a local device.
Remote Powerline Ethernet devices as follows：
Item Description
Device Name Shows the name of a found device in the LAN
Rate (Mbps) Data rate between HP-8501 and the remote Powerline device
MAC Address MAC Address of the remote Powerline device
Password shows the user-defined device password (initially left blank)

A user may change the password by clicking ‘Enter Password’ button. To set the Password of
the device (required when creating a secured private network), first select the device by clicking
on its name in the lower panel and then click on the ‘Enter Password’ button .A dialog box will
appear as shown in Figure 2 for you to type the password. The selected device name is shown
so you can make sure which device you’re changing the password. Click OK after you’ve entered
the new password. A confirmation box will appear if the password was entered correctly. If a
device is not found, the user will be prompted and instructions to this problem will be shown, too.

The Add button is used to add a remote device to your network that is not listed in the lower
panel, for example, a device currently located on another logical network. Users will be prompted
to input the passwords for all devices they wish to manage and add them to the local logical
network by clicking on the Add button. A dialog box will appear as shown below. The dialog box

allows user to enter both device name and the password. A confirmation box will appear if the
password was entered correctly and the device was found. If a device is not found, the user will
be prompted and instructions to this problem will be shown, too.

Note: The device must be present on the power line (plugged in) in order to check the password
so it can be added to the network. If the device could not be located, a warning message will be
shown.
The Scan button is used to perform an search of the Powerline Ethernet devices connected to
the computer. By default, the utility will automatically scan once every few seconds and updates
the display. A typical screen after naming and supplying passwords might appear as in Figure 4.

If you want to know the detail setting of the Utility , please study user’s manual in the CD-ROM .
Warning
(1) Simply plug into a power outlet and do not use a power strip or UPS with the wall mount
device
(2)This is a class A product. In a domestic environment this product may cause radio
interference in which case the user may be required to take adequate measures.
