OPERATION
6. PRODUCT OPERATION
Proper dryer operation depends on the compressor activity and does not require any operation. The pressure
vessel does not need to be drained as the compressed air into the air tank is already dried.
The following are necessary for proper dryer operation:
• Operate the compressor using the interrupted mode of operation up to 60%. The compressor should not run
continuously for more than 10 minutes.
• The working pressure settings for the pressure switch set by the manufacturer cannot be changed.
Compressor operation at lower working pressures than the switching pressure is evidence that the
compressor is overloaded (high air consumption) caused by an appliance, a failed seal in the air line,
compressor problem or dryer.
• The compressor is connected to its power source (pressure switch is active and power cord is plugged in) – if
the humidity sensor considers the air to be “insufficiently dry”, the drying chamber will be regenerated by
taking air from the air tank, whereby the pressure is decreased, causing the compressor to run a number of
times. The compressor will automatically switch off once the dryer is regenerated.
• If regeneration last for more than 1 hour and there is no air consumption, check:
- If regeneration is on-going
- If air is leaking from the dryer outlet solenoid valve through the condensate drain
- A compressor or dryer failure has occurred
W A R N I N G !
After placing a compressor with an M1a dryer into operation (after installation or after a multiple-day break), the
dryer may require regeneration. The compressor automatically is placed into operation without any air use in
order to increase air pressure in the air tank until the shut off pressure is reached. This leads to dryer
regeneration (air moves from the air tank through the drying chamber). Tank pressure will then drop to the
switch on pressure, whereby the compressor starts again and the pressure rises in the air tank and switches off
the compressor. This process for switching on and off the compressor repeats until the dryer is fully
regenerated. This level of control is built into the dryer – the humidity sensor – hygrostat. The regeneration
process can take a number of minutes (5 to 15 min.) – for a new dryer or regenerated dryer during compressor
operation or require more time (30 to 120 min.) – for dryers saturated with water vapour from previous operation
(e.g. the compressor is operated outside of allowed ranges or work takes place in areas with relatively high
humidity, etc.). Once regeneration is completed the process stops automatically.
N o t e !
The times shown for regeneration apply for compressor
operation with closed outlet valves, e.g. when there is
no air demand or use. These times are longer if air is
being used.
If the compressor does not shut off automatically
during automatic dryer regeneration within 120 min.,
this information must be notified to the supplier or
service center.
The table shows the times for regeneration cycles for
compressors with an M1a dryer (under the conditions that
no air from the compressor is being used).
