Getting Started
Unpack your box and remove all the packaging. We recommend that you retain the
product packaging in case of any warranty issues.
Connect the USB cable to your PC. The battery comes with minimal charge so Elonex
recommends that the rst time you use the eBook you should charge it for a minimum of 8
hours to get the best battery life.
Turn it on by pressing the Power Button on the top left corner.The eBook will then load and
you can start reading your 100 free eBooks. For information on how to download and use
eBooks please read on.

511tEB Menu 511EB Menu eBook View
eBook Main Menu
The images below show the main menu of your eBook (depending on which model you
purchased). When you turn on your eBook, by pressing the Power button on the left hand
side ,you wll be presented with these options.
You can scroll through the menu by pressing the navigation buttons at the bottom right of
the keyboard. Press‘OK’to select your choice. You can alternatively press the number on the
keyboard that is associated with your choice - ie press the number ‘2’ key to open ‘2
Bookcase’. This number system applies for all the menus in the eBook.
If you have the 511tEB touchscreen version you can use your stylus to touch the option you
want.
Using the TouchScreen (511tEB only)
The eBook 511tEB has a touch sensitive screen which lets you control all aspects of the
eBook’s menu system. It also lets you annotate eBooks and also make notes in the
memopad. The TouchScreen is very durable but also very sensitive. You should only use the
stylus supplied (pull it out from the bottom right corner of the eBook) and not any other
pointed implements.The eBook will not respond to your ngertips, only the stylus.
Making Memos
From the main menu select option 5 and enter Memo. Here you can make notes that are
handwritten (notes) or text. When the Memopad is open choose ‘Note’ or ‘Text’ at the top
left of the screen. The text can be inputted either using the QWERTY keyboard or using the
character reader.
The character reader works when you handwrite a complete word in the large
box at the bottom of the screen. The eBook will then read this and convert it to text
in the memopad. You should write one word at a time and if the word is incorrect the
eBook will oer your varous other suggestions in the box in the center of the screen.
Just tap on the correct word and it will be added to your memo.

Viewing Pictures
The eBook lets you view pictures or photos. These are displayed in grayscale using 8
dierent shades. Press ‘Menu’ to choose to view pictures so they t inside the screen, they
are sized to the width of the screen, the height of the screen or are the actual size or the raw
picture. To scroll through your pictures press‘Next Page’or use the navigation buttons at the
bottom right of the keyboard.
NOTE: The eBook can view images up to a maximum resolution of 3 MegaPixels.
Playing Music
The eBook lets you play music through its integrated speakers or out via
the earphones included in the package. When you connect the earphones,
the speakers will automatically mute and the music will start playing
through the earphones.
To adjust the volume you can use the Volume Up (+) or Volume Down (-)
buttons on the left hand side of the ebook. You can also use the left and
right arrow keys at the bottom right of the keyboard.
To skip between songs press the up and down arrow keys.
Recording Memos
You can record a memo / voice message using the eBook’s integrated microphone. From the
main menu select the ‘Music’ option. To start recording press ‘3 Rec’. This will start recording
immediately and save the le as a .wav le. The le will be saved in the e_audio in the Music
folder. Press‘1 Play’ to playback your memo.
Transferring Content to your eBook
For content which is not DRM (Digital Rights Managed) content you can simply treat your
eBook like a USB device and ‘drag and drop’ content from your computer. When you rst
plug your eBook into your computer Windows will automatically detect and install the
eBook which will show up as a removeable drive in My Computer as ‘LNX eBook’.
To transfer a le nd it in My Documents and copy it by right clicking your mouse and
pressing copy. Then open the LNX eBook folder from My Computer and paste the le into
the corresponding folder on th eBook;

Digital Editions This is where DRM protected content you buy is stored.
Reading eBooks
Your eBook comes with 100 free eBooks in your Bookcase to get you started. You can easily
buy more eBooks to add to your collection. For details on how to transfer these please read
the section below “Transferring eBooks with DRM protection”.
To start reading an eBook In the main menu scroll to‘2 Bookcase’and press OK (or press
2 on the keyboard) to open your collection of eBooks. Once you have selected the eBook
you want to read and press OK to open it.
To turn the page You can either use the‘NEXT PAGE’or PREV PAGE’buttons on the left side
of the screen or alternatively the arrow buttons at the bottom right of the keyboard.
Returning to an eBook When you ‘pick up’ an eBook you‘ve already started reading the
eBook will remember which page you’re on and will automatically open at the last page you
were reading. You can also view the most recent books you’ve read if you select ‘1 Recent
Files’ from the main menu.
Jumping to a page When you have an eBook open, use the keyboard
to type the page number you want to go to and press OK to ‘jump’ straight
to that page.
Enlarging Font Size (Zoom) Press the Zoom button on the keyboard to
enlarge the font size displayed on screen. Keep pressing Zoom to cycle
through from small to medium to large and back to small depending
on your preference.
(You can also press ‘Menu’and ‘9 Leading Setting’to change the line
spacing to t more or less text on the screen).
Adding a Bookmark A bookmark is the digital equivalent of a bookmark, train ticket or
receipt that you might use to mark the page you’re reading or a special place in the book. To
add a Bookmark on the page you’re reading, press the‘MENU’ button and press‘3 Bookmark’.
Then press the 0 number key, to add the bookmark and reference it with a small quotation.
To open the eBook at a bookmark you’ve already made, scroll to the relevant bookmark and
press ‘OK’.
Transfering eBooks with DRM protection
Any additional eBooks you buy will generally come with Digital Rights Management (DRM)
which gives you and the eBook’s author copyright protection. The Elonex eBook works
with Adobe Digital Editions™ which is the best way for you to download and manage DRM
protected eBooks. The best bit about it is that its free to download and easy to use.
