Remove all the tape.

1Lift up the scanner.

the ink cartridge holder.

1Connect the power cable.
2Press the On button.
Turn On the CX5000 Series

Note: Don’t load paper before installing the ink cartridges.
1Lift up the scanner.
2Open the ink cartridge
cover.
3Shake the ink cartridges, then unpack them.
4Remove the yellow tape from each cartridge.
Caution: Don’t remove any other seals from the cartridges.

5Insert the cartridges in the holder for each color.
6Press the cartridges down until they click.
7Close the ink cartridge cover and press it down until it clicks.
8Close the scanner.
9Press the ink button to charge ink. Charging takes about
2 minutes.
Caution: Don’t turn off the CX5000 Series while the On light is flashing or
you’ll waste ink.

1Open the paper support and pull up its extensions.
2Open the output tray and pull out its extension.
3Flip the feeder guard forward.
4Load paper against the right edge guide.
Note: Don’t load the paper sideways;
always load it short edge first.
5Slide the left edge guide over.
6Flip the feeder guard back.

6Install Software
Your software works with Windows®98SE, Me, 2000, XP, XP Professional x64
Edition, and Macintosh®OS X 10.2.8 and 10.4.x (including Intel®Core™Duo or
Solo).
Windows
1Make sure the CX5000 Series is NOT CONNECTED to your computer.
Note: If you see a screen like this, click Cancel and disconnect the
USB cable. You can’t install your software that way.
2Insert the Epson Stylus CX5000 Series CD.
3Click Install and follow the on-screen instructions to install software and
print a test page. Software installation takes several minutes.
4When prompted, connect the USB cable. Use any open USB
port on your computer.
Note: If installation doesn’t continue after a moment, make sure you
securely connected and turned on the CX5000 Series.
5When you’re done, remove the CD and restart your computer.
You’re ready to copy, print, and scan! See the Quick Guide or your on-screen
User’s Guide.

1Insert the Epson Stylus CX5000 Series CD.
2Open the Epson CD-ROM desktop icon and double-click
the Epson icon.
3Click Install and follow the on-screen instructions. Software installation
and setup take several minutes.
4When prompted, connect the USB cable. Use any open USB port on
your computer. Make sure the CX5000 Series is turned on.
5When you see this screen, click Open the Printer List.
6Then follow the tips to the right to add the printer.
7Click Next again, if necessary.
8Follow the on-screen instructions to install the rest of the software and
print a test page.
9Eject the CD and restart your Macintosh.

•If the green On light is flashing, just wait until it stops before pressing any
control panel buttons.
•If the red Error light is on, turn the CX5000 Series off and then on to
clear the error.
•If the red Error light is still on or flashing, make sure your paper is
loaded and ink is installed, and make sure you removed all of the packing
material.
•If the red Error light is flashing rapidly and an Happears in the Copies
window, the paper thickness lever is in the Hposition. See the Quick
Guide for instructions on setting the lever position.
•If you suspect a paper jam, press the Start Color button to eject the
paper, then pull out the jammed sheets from the sheet feeder or output
tray. See the Quick Guide for details.
