Remote Control Information
You can operate your projector byremotecontrol via a line-of-sightinfrared (IR) receiver at the frontand rear of
the projector. The projectormay notrespondtoremote controlcommandsunderthe following conditions:
❐There isan object between the remote controlIRemitterand the IRreceiver on the projector.
❐Ambient light is too bright.
❐Certaintypes of fluorescentlighting are used.
❐A strong lightsource shines into the IR receiver.
❐Other equipmentthat emits infrared energy, such as a radiant room heater, is in the room.
These conditionscommonlycause problemsformost infrared-controlled equipment.Trythe followingsolutions:
❐The remote controlunit’sbatteries may be lowon power;replace them.
❐Dim the ambient lighting and/or turn off any fluorescent lights.
❐Close anywindow coverings and/or move the projector outof direct sunlight.
❐Turnoffother equipmentthat emits infrared energy.
If the remote control still doesnot work properly,remember you can alwayscontrolyour computer-based presen-

Introduction
The EPSON®PowerLite™7000XB and PowerLite 5000XB are
compact, lightweightprojectors that allowyou toprojectfull-color
images and video ontoa large screenforpresentations. You can
connect either projectorsimultaneouslyto three image sources: two
PCorApple®Macintosh®computerimage sourcesplusone video
source, such asa VCR or camcorder. You canalso connect audiofor
each image source.
If you have aPowerLite 7000XB, images aredisplayed inXGA
compatible full color(16,670,000 colors) at a resolution of 1024 x 768
pixels. The PowerLite 5000XB displays images in SVGAcompatible
full color at a resolution of 800 x 600 pixels. Your projector produces
bright imagesthatcanbe easilyseenin roomslight enough totake
notes.

Yourprojector’stwo speakersemploy a built-inSpatializer 3D Sound
Systemforrich, powerfulaudio output. You canevenconnectan
external speaker when further amplification is required.
A totally new, patentpending AVTSS system(Automatic Video
TrackingandSynchronization Sensing) provides automaticimage
setup from acomputer with a touch of a button, producing beautiful
images quickly andeasily.
You control your projector through a hand-held remotecontrol unit,
with menus provided for image sourceswitchingand image
adjustment. The remotecontrol can alsoact as a wireless mouseto
control operations onyour computer screen during presentations. The
projector’s ELP LinkII software provides a number of add-on features
designed to makepresentationsmoreeffective.
Yourprojector also features a new patented SizeWise chip for support
of VGA and SXGA output (PowerLite7000XB) or VGA and XGA
output(PowerLite5000XB). No matterwhattypeofcomputeroutput
is used, the result is a full-size video image ofoutstanding clarity.
Both the PowerLite7000XB and PowerLite5000XB support IBM®
compatiblePCs andlaptops, as well as AppleMacintosh, Power
Macintosh,™ and PowerBook™computers. Thevideosource canbe
NTSC, PAL,or SECAM in composite video orS-Video format.

Getting the Most Out ofYour Projector
Yourprojectorcomeswith a fullset of featuresthat enable you to
control thesettingsforthe image display, video, andaudio. To get the
most out of the projector, read this section for a quick summary of the
importantfeatures.
Remote Control
The buttonson theremotecontrol enable youtoturntheprojector on
andoff, andprovidedirectaccess to autosetup, blank, freeze, volume,
mute, and image source switching. Use the remotecontrol buttonsto
access custom functions (with the ELPLinkII software) and the
projector’smenu system. You caneven use the remote control to
control your computer inplace ofyour computer’s mouse.
Sleep Mode
Sleep mode conserveselectricity byautomaticallyturning offthe lamp
after the projector has not beenused for 30 minutes. In sleep mode,
theprojector remainsonbut the lamp is turned off, conserving
electricity, cooling the projector, and extending the life of the lamp.
Control Panel
The control panelbuttonsontheprojectorduplicatetheremote
control buttons andletyou perform additional functions, such as
adjusting thetracking andsync forcomputerimages.

Safety Instructions
Follow these safety instructions when setting up and using the
projector:
1.Do not placetheprojector on anunstable cart,stand, ortable.
2.Do not usetheprojector nearwateror sources of heat.
3.Use attachments only asrecommended.
4.Use the type of power sourceindicatedontheprojector. If you are
not sureof the power available, consult yourdealer or power
company.
5.Place the projector near a wall outlet where the plug canbe easily

10.Unplug the projector fromthewalloutletbefore cleaning. Use a
damp cloth for cleaning. Do notuse liquid or aerosol cleaners.
11.Do not block the slotsand openingsintheprojectorcase. They
provide ventilation and preventtheprojector fromoverheating.
Do not operatetheprojector on asofa, rug, orother soft surface,
or in a closed-in cabinet unless proper ventilation is provided.
12.Never push objects of any kindthrough cabinet slots. Neverspill
liquidof any kindintotheprojector.
13.Exceptasspecificallyexplained inthis User’sGuide, do not
attempt toservice this productyourself.Refer allservicingto
qualified service personnel. Opening or removing coversmay
exposeyou todangerousvoltagesandother hazards.
14.Unplug the projector during lightning storms or when itwill not
beused for extended periods.
15.Do not placetheprojector and remotecontrol on top of
heat-producingequipmentorin a heated place, suchas acar.
16.Unplug the projector fromthewalloutletandreferservicing to
qualified service personnel underthefollowing conditions:
●When the power cord or plugisdamaged or frayed
●If liquid has been spilled into the projector, or if it hasbeen
exposed to rain or water
●If it does not operate normally when you followthe operating

Installation
This chapter describes how to unpack, setup,andconnect your
projector to other equipment. The projector must be connectedtoa
computer or a video source such asa VCR, camcorder, or laser disc
player. For example, you maywant to connect the projector to both
your computeranda video source, orset uptheprojectorforoneor
more of the following:
