3. Function and intended use
The solar light is designed for year-round outdoor use. It can be oper-
ated standing on the ground and secured against rolling away using
the supplied ground spike.
The solar light must be set up protected from shadows and facing the
sun. South-, east- or west-facing is recommended. Shady north-facing
areas are not suitable for solar lights.
The built-in battery is charged by the internal solar module. The light
switches on automatically at dusk and off again at dawn or when the
battery is flat.
Warm white light-emitting diodes (LEDs) are used as light sources.
These LEDs guarantee high luminosity with low power consumption
and a service life of over 30,000 hours.
Note: If the battery is not exposed to sunlight for longer periods, it may
not be able to charge the battery adequately from sunlight. However,
this does not mean that the solar light is defective. Wait for the
next sunny days and the luminaire will work accordingly again.
Note: This globe is not buoyant!
The battery should be changed every 2 years on average!
4. Installation
1. Carefully remove the parts from the packaging.
2. Turn the glass globe counterclockwise from the base and remove
the glass globe.
Note: Please do not use force when turning the globe. The globe is
made of glass and there is a risk of injury from broken glass. In case
of doubt, use appropriate cut protection gloves!
3. Gently pull the strip out of the battery compartment at the bottom.
The light is now activated (Fig. 1).
4. Now carefully screw the globe back onto the lower part.
Note: If necessary, take some rubber care product from the motor
vehicle sector and rub it into the seal. In order to prevent water from
entering the globe, it must be tightly closed. When unscrewing the
globe, make sure that the thread is not tilted and that the closed lock
symbol is between the two markings in the lower part (picture 2). Only
then is the globe firmly and properly locked.
The light is now ready for use!
Note: The duration of the light depends heavily on the intensity and
duration of sunlight during the day. In the winter months, you can gen-
erally expect less lighting time. If the light does not light up on the first
evening, please wait for a sunny day.
5. Changing the battery
On average, the battery in the globe light has to be replaced with a new
one of the same design and type every 2 years. A NiMh battery of the
size (AAA, Micro) with 1.2 V / 600 mAh is used here. If you cannot find
a 600 mAh battery in stores, you can always use a battery with a higher
capacity. You can obtain a replacement battery from your retailer or directly
from the manufacturer at www.esotec.de
Please proceed as follows when changing:
1. Turn the glass globe counterclockwise from the base and remove
the glass globe.
Note: Please do not use force when turning the globe. The globe is
made of glass and there is a risk of injury from broken glass. In case
of doubt, use appropriate cut protection gloves!
2. Loosen the two screws with a suitable screwdriver and carefully
remove the part with the solar module (picture 3).
