The One Way Glide (OWG) is used
- To maintain the correct seated position in order to avoid sores
forming on the pelvic bones due to shearing of the skin.
- As an extra aid when the client has to be repositioned repeat-
edly.
- If the wheelchair can be tilted, the client can glide back and
needs only limited assistance.
Thank you for choosing an Etac product.
To avoid accidents and injury when moving and handling
the products, read the manual carefully.
The person described as "the client" in this user manual is
the person who is lying or sitting on the product. The carer
or carers are the people who manoeuvre the product.
The products comply with the standards applicable for
Class 1 products in the European Council Directive MDD
93/42/EEC on medical devices.
This symbol appears alongside the text in
the manual. It draws the reader's attention
to points at which there may be a risk to the
health and safety of the client or carer.
At Etac we strive to improve our products all the time and
therefore we reserve the right to make changes to prod-
ucts without prior warning. All measurements given on

Position the OWG in the chair so that the arrow on the
label or the red indicator label points towards the chair
back.
The non-slip models can be used under the chair cushion.
The non-slip models can also be used with an inconti-
nence cover.
Position the client as normal in the chair.
The client has glided forwards in the wheelchair (Illustra-
tion 1).
The carer leans the client forward to alter the pressure
points – the client's back must be free of the chair back.
If the client has poor balance, he/she can be supported
using a positioning wedge or pillow. Alternatively, a carer
can support the client from the front (Illustrations 2, 3
or4)
The carer can also stand in front of the client. By giving
the client a slight push, the client will glide back in the
chair. A ”thigh walk” technique can also be used (Illustra-
tions 2, 3 and 4)
Remember: Apply the brake to lock the wheelchair before
using OWG.

Always check the product before use and after washing.
Never use a defective product. If the product shows signs
of wear-and-tear, it must be scrapped.
Read these instructions carefully.
It is important that carers receive instruction in manual
handling.
Etac offers advice and training for carers. For further
information, contact Etac.
Always use the correct manual handling techniques
Remember to use the client's resources.
There is no need to remove OWG after use.
The material under OWG with velvet must be a fabric
onto which the velvet backside can "grip".
Clothing material (trousers/skirt) – if this material is
smooth, it will glide on the velvet top side!
Care is needed to avoid reddening of the skin in clients
who are at risk of developing decubitus.
Never leave OWG on the floor.
To ensure that the client feels safe and that every manual
handling is smooth, always plan the manual handling in
advance.
If in any doubt - please contact Etac.
The OWG comprises a top side of either non-slip fabric or
velvet. The quilted nylon backside has two velvet strips.
Non-slip model:
100% non-slip fabric
100% nylon
Velvet strips
The product should be checked regularly, preferably each
time it is used, and especially after wash.
Check that there is no damage to seams or fabric.
Never try to repair a product yourself. Never use
a defective product.
Washing instructions:
Do not use fabric softener – as this will reduce the glide
effect.
