2. Construction
The hack saw ASt 636 is an electric hand tool of Class II in ac-
cordance with the VDE regulations 0740. In addition to the nor-
mal insulation the tool is equipped with a further protective in-
sulation which protects the user from electric accidents that may
arise from a wrong normal insulation . The shockproof motor
housing made of Polyamide forms the insulation of the pole
housing, whereas the live parts of the armature are separated
from the driving shaft by an intermediate insulation . The ma-
chine is supplied with a two core cable without earthing con-
ductor and must not be earthed. The insulation is tested with
the prescribed test voltage of 4000 Volts. The machine is radio
suppressed in accordance with radio interference degree N.
Type ASt 736 (42 V) is of the same design but not double insu-
lated. It must only be connected with a two-core cable without
earth wire.
To prevent the overbridging of the insulation no additional
marking plates and signs must be riveted or screwed on the
housing. We recommend the use of transfers only.
3. Connection
Before plugging in the tool check that voltage stated on the rat-
ing plate is in accordance with the voltage of the mains supply.
Switch must be in the "Off" position when connecting .

Unscrew handle (60) combined with the hexagon pin and open
screw (51) on plunger (37). Put saw blade chosen for the work-
piece into the slot of the plunger and clamp with pin of handle
(60) and screw (51).
Usually the cutting table (52) is screwed so that the vaulted
side points into the cutting direction. In special cases and for
placing reasons e. g. if you want to cut near a vertical wall the
table can be turned by 180 ° and screwed.
The ventilation air blows the saw-dust away from the saw-blade
so that the tracing line is always visible.
4. Maintenance
Before carrying out any maintenance work always remember
to pull out the plug.
To guarantee the security given by the protective insulation
the machine must be cleaned regularly after 300 duty hours.
Blow or brush out the tool with special attention to carbon
brush holders and insulated parts.
For the checking of the carbon brushes take out carbon brush
holders (10) after unscrewing the screws (12). After checking the
carbon brushes be sure to lodge them in their original position
and check that they move with ease in their holders. They should
be replaced at the latest when they have worn down to the

Please only use original Fein car-
bon brushes (order reference EZ 11-62). After fitting the new
orushes run tool unloaded for about 15 minutes to allow brushes
to bed lin.
One pair of spare carbons (70) will be found in the motor hous-
ing; please do not forget to reorder . them in time.
Check cable at regular intervals to prevent possible accidents.
To replace the cable take off the screws (22) and (23), then re-
move cover (21). The cable is clamped off from the switch (14)
and may be taken out after unscrewing the screws (20) of the
cable clamping bridge (19).
5. Lubrication and
overhaul
We recommend to renew the gear grease after 300 duty hours .
Please only use Fein grease.
After approx. 900 duty hours the machine should be cleaned
thoroughly. Dismantle following the instructions of section 6
and clean component parts. Ball bearings and gearing parts are
rinsed in clean solvent. The space between inner and outer ring
of the ball bearings is to be one third filled with grease (FK 3) in
order to avoid overheating .
No claims can be entertained for damage due to negligent
maintenance and inadequate lubrication.

6. Dismantling
The tool should only be taken apart by an expert.
1. Unscrew gear cover (36). Only in case of damages dismantle
parts mounted in the gearing cover; after unscrewing the
slotted nut (42) the plunger (37) may be pulled out.
2. Turn crankshaft (44) into the upper position, take off needle
bearing (43) and "Seeger" circlip (38) pull out bolt (39) and
turn connecting rod (41) out of the slot of the counterweight
(40).
3. Unscrew 4 countersunk screws (55) , pull out bearing plate
(59) with assembled pieces.
4. Push crankshaft (44) out of bearing plate, gear wheel and
two ball bearings ; remove carefully connectin .g rod (41) in
order that the balls (53) put in movably are not lost .

Remove cover of motor housing (21) after unscrewing the
screws (22) and (23).
6.
Clamp off all connection cables, remove switch (14) and ca-
pacitor (15).
7. After unscrewing the screws (12) remove carbon brush holder
(10).
8. Unscrew 4 cylindrical screws (65, 67) and remove gear hous-
ing (35).
9. Only in case of damages pull out armature (26), unscrew 3
screws (31) and remove armature drive (30).
10. Remove grease retaining ring (9), unscrew screws (8) and
take off pole housing (6).
Attention! Hits and blows on the ventilation fan affect the good
running conditions of the armature and should be prevented.
Re-assemble in reverse sequence.
Please bear in mind that existing washers are to be placed in
the right places . The ir loss would lead to damage.
7. Repair and spare parts
We recommend our Fein Service Stations to carry out all over-
haul and repair w ork quickly and expertl y.
When ordering spare parts, please, quote model and serial N°
in addition to Order Reference or send in sample part.
We draw your attention to the need to carry out a high voltage
test in accordance with your local regulations (or VDE regula -
tion 0740) before taking a tool into service after any repair
carried out by our own staff.
