1. IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Fläkt Woods fans comply with the requirements of the health and
safety of the EG Machinery Directive.
All fans leave the factory after being subjected to testing and are
provided with a test seal.
These instructions are intended for use by professional service
staff. The installation, commissioning and operation of the fans
must be carried out by professional staff who are familiar with
the safety regulations.
Tools and protective equipment necessary for preventing
accidents from occurring while installing
and operating the fan must be used/worn in accordance with the
local safety regulations.
All personnel involved with the product must carefully study this
operating manual and diligently comply with all orders and
instructions.
Fläkt Woods does not accept responsibility for any damage that
can be attributed to nonobservance of these instructions.
The warranty issued by the manufacturer will be forfeited if any
changes to the product are made without the manufacturer’s
consent.

The roof fan is used to generate required air flow at current
pressure drop equal to losses in the duct system. This is done by
using a rotating impeller inside the fan casing.

3.2 APPLICATIONS
Roof fans are used as an exhaust fans in ventilation systems.
The maximum allowed rotational speed for fan-motor combination
is shown in the technical catalogue.
Note!
If the fan is not used continuously in a cold climate, it is recom-
mended to use back draught shutter in the duct. This prevents
the humidity from freezing within the fan structure.
3.3 MOTORS
Motors are either 1- or 3-phase external rotor motors with
integrated impeller. EC-motors have also an integrated speed
controller.

4. TRANSPORT AND STORAGE
4.1 TRANSPORT INSPECTION
Check the fan immediately after you receive it and make sure that
it has not been damaged during transport. If you discover any
damage, get in touch with the transportation company without
delay. Briefly rotate the fan impeller to see that it rotates easily.
Check the information on the fan rating plate.
Proper procedures must be followed when transporting the
product! Faulty conditions in transporting may result in serious
damage to the product
4.2 TRANSPORT SAFETY
The transport material is to be selected according to the
packaging and the weight of the product.
Loading must be carried out as instructed.
4.3 INTERMEDIATE STORAGE
If the fan is to be stored before or in between uses, the following
needs to be taken into account:
– Original packaging is to be used. If the storage conditions
require it, additional protection may be added
– The storage environment must be dry, dust-free and not have a
high level of humidity (<70 %)
– Storage temperature must be in between –20° C and +40° C
Before commissioning, the respective instructions must be
studied thoroughly.
4.4 LIFTING OF THE FAN
Check the correct lifting method. If necessary, use the lifting lugs
shown in the Figure 6.
Fan weights can be found in this brochure at point 3.4 and also in
the fan labels.

5. INSTALLATION
5.1 FAN INSTALLATION
The fan is installed either together with a roof curb or by using
the installation frame on a base frame built separately for the fan.
5.1.1 INSTALLATION WITH ROOF CURB (BOGA EI30),
ALL VERSIONS SIZE 225 ONWARDS (FIGURE 7).
1. Install the sealing tape (within the delivery) on the roof curb.
2. Lift the fan and place it on the roof curb, see point 4.4.
Please check, that:
– base frame of the roof fan is over the roof curb, do not
damage the gasket
– safety switch and cable grommets shall be on the same side
of the fan. This defines also the position of the hinges
(standard for insulated version, other versions as accessory).
3. Fasten the roof fan through the base frame to the roof curb
with four M8 screws.

1. Fasten the sealing tapes (within the delivery) on to the base
frame.
2. Place the mounting frame on the base frame and fasten it with
four screws or with anchor bolts if the base frame is made of
concrete. There are four Ø12 mm holes for screws in the
installation frame.
Please check that:
– eventual wind load and hinges can generate high forces to the
fastening.

– safety switch and cable grommet shall be on the same side of
the fan. This defines also the position of the hinges (standard
for insulated version, other versions as accessory).
3. Fasten the sealing tape (within the delivery) to the upper part
of the mounting frame.
4. Fasten the fan on to the installation frame with four M8 screws.

5.1.3 INSTALLATION ON TO THE BASE FRAME,
UNINSULATED VERSIONS, SIZE 190
1. Fasten the sealing tape on to the base frame.
2. Place the fan on the base frame and fasten it through the
bottom plate with four screws or in case, when base frame is
made of concrete,or with anchor bolts if the base frame is made
of concrete.. There are four Ø12 mm holes for screws in the bot-
tom plate, which can be accessed by removing the roof panel.
5.2 SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
The fan is fulfilling the requirements of CE-marking based in the
Machinery Directive. The fan must be installed by following the
standard EN 292/294.
The electrical installations should only be carried out
by authorized personnel.
Switch off the power and wait 5 min. before starting
the installation or maintenance work. Be sure that
the fan cannot be started unexpectedly while work
in progress.
The fan delivery does not include any inlet guard. If
the installation method requires, inlet opening must
be protected.
5.3 IMPORTANT TO NOTE DURING ELECTRICAL
CONNECTIONS
- All necessary electrical and other safety instructions must be
followed.
- Cable from mains shall always include an isolator.
- Motor shall be protected with motor protection if necessary.
- Motor cable and fuses shall be dimensioned according to the
local requirements.
- Contact between cables and impeller must be prevented.
5.4 WIRING
The following wiring instructions must be followed. In case of
electrical accessories all required instructions are included in
the delivery.
5.4.1 THE FAN WITH SAFETY SWITCH INSTALLED
AT THE COMMISSIONING PHASE
1. Fasten the safety switch in a proper place by using an
accepted cable type and note the potential opening direction
of the fan.
2. Open the cover of the safety switch.
3. Connect the motor cable to the safety switch.
4. Thread the flexible power cable through the safety switch
gland, allow enough cable to enable the fan section to be
opened during maintenance.
5. Make the cable connections and check them.
6. Check that the safety switch is working properly.
7. When starting the fan, please check the correct rotational
direction.

6.1 SAFETY CONTROL
Before starting the fan, check that there are no abnormal devices
inside the fan. Check that the fan is installed correctly and
according to the instructions. Check that all necessary safety
equipment is installed and can be used.
The fan shall only be started when all essential instructions are
followed and all essential installations have been checked..
6.2 TEST RUN
Start the fan to check that the rotation direction is correct and
that the impeller rotates correctly.
Check that there are no abnormal noises and the fan runs
smoothly.
6. COMMISSIONING

The roof fan does not need any special service. However, it is
necessary to clean the fan impeller especially when the air is not
clean. This helps to avoid vibrations in the impeller.
If there is an abnormal noise coming from the motor bearings, the
motor and impeller or complete fan unit shall be replaced.
7.1 WARRANTY
Requirement for the warranty is that the installation is carried out
properly and the necessary service actions have been made. If
there are problems during the warranty period, the manufacturer
or dealer has to be informed. Warranty does not cover any
service or indirect costs.
7.2 SERVICE
The electrical installations are allowed to be carried
out only by authorized personnel.
Make sure that an opened fan cannot fall down.
7. SERVICE
7.2.1 MAINTENANCE, CLEANING OF THE IMPELLER,
MOTOR AND FAN CASING
(UNINSULATED VERSIONS, SIZES 225 - 630).
1. Switch off the fan from the isolator and wait 5 minutes before
starting the maintenance work.
Versions with hinges:
2. Open the fastening screws (4 pcs) so that the fan casing can
be opened. The fan shall be locked to open position with stay
fastener(s), figure 10 below.
3. Check that the stay fastener(s) are locked and that the hinge
bolts, the bottom plate and the installation frame are correctly
fastened.
4. Clean necessary components and the casing. Open the stay
fastener(s) and let the fan carefully back to its operation
position. Start the fan and check that the impeller is rotating
without problems.
The casing can be cleaned from the inside also by removing
the roof and the casing (fixed together) in the vertical discharge
version, point 3.1.1.
Horizontal version can be cleaned by removing the cowl and the
bird guards. point 3.1.3.

7. SERVICE, CONT.
7.2.2 CLEANING OF THE IMPELLER, MOTOR AND CASING
(INSULATED VERTICAL VERSION).
1. Switch off the fan from the isolator and wait 5 min. before start-
ing the maintenance work.
2. Open the fastening screws ~10 mm so that the casing can
be opened. Fan can be locked to open position with stay
fastener(s), picture 11.
3. Lift the fan casing to its open position and check that stay
fastener(s) are correctly locked and the base frame is
correctly fastened.
4. Clean the necessary parts of the fan.
5. Loose the stay fastener(s) and let the casing go to its closed
position and tighten the fastening screws. Start the fan and
check that impeller rotates freely and fan runs smoothly.
The casing can be cleaned also from upside by removing the roof
panel, see point 3.1.2.

7.2.3 MOTOR REPLACEMENT (UNINSULATED VERSION)
NOTE!
Motor & impeller shall be always be replaced as a package. This
package is available for size 400 and bigger. In case of smaller
fans the complete unit is to be replaced.
Open ductwork below the roof fan shall be covered to protect
tools and other small parts from dropping into the duct.
1. Switch off the fan from the isolator and wait 5 min. before
starting the maintenance work.
2. Vertical version: Remove the casing and roof (fixed together) by
loosening the M6 bolts and self-tapping screws. Open the M6
bolts to detach motor bracket.
Horizontal version: Remove cowl (M6 bolts), fan guards (M6
bolts) and motor bracket (M6 bolts).
3. Disconnect the cables.
4. Lift motor bracket with the motor and impeller up from the base
frame.
5. Remove motor bolts (if necessary protect impeller-motor pack-
age from dropping down) and lift the motor bracket away.
6. Remove inlet cone (fastened with pop-rivets and sealing
compound).
7. Install new inlet cone (remember sealing compound), and mo-
torized impeller.
8. Reconnect the cables.
9. When re-installing motor bracket and casing, check again that
impeller can rotate without problems.
Start the fan. Check that rotational direction is correct and the
impeller rotates freely and there are no abnormal noises coming
from the fan.

7. SERVICE, CONT.
7.3 SCRAPPING
1. There are electrical motor and potentially other electrical com-
ponents inside the fan. All these shall be removed from
service according to instructions given to these components.
2. Steel material is recyclable.
3. Inside the fan there are also small plastic components, which
are made of recyclable material.
7.2.4 MOTOR REPLACEMENT (INSULATED VERSION)
NOTE!
Motor & impeller shall be always replaced as a package.
Open ductwork below the roof fan shall be covered to protect
tools and other small parts from dropping into the duct.
1. Switch off the fan from the isolator and wait 5 min. before
starting the maintenance work.
2. Remove the roof and casings by loosening the M6 bolts
(some of them are hidden behind the hatches).
3. Disconnect the cables.
4. Remove inlet cone (fastened with self-tapping screws and
sealing compound).
5. Remove motor bolts (if necessary protect impeller-motor
package from dropping down) and lift motorized impeller away.
6. Install new motorized impeller and inlet cone (remember
sealing compound). Check that impeller can rotate without
problems.
7. Reconnect the cables.
8. Reinstall casings, roof panel and close hatches.
Start the fan. Check that rotational direction is correct and
the impeller rotates freely and there are no abnormal noises
coming from the fan.
