1 Introduction
The PRIMERGY H200 servers are Intel-based servers for small and medium-
sized networks. They are equally suitable for use as servers for file server facil-
ities and as application, information, or internet servers. They can be used as
either a floorstand or rack model. The floorstand model can be converted into a
rack model with an optional conversion kit.
The PRIMERGY H200 servers offer a high level of failure safety and availability
through highly developed hardware and software components. These include
internal hard disk drive modules, accessible 5¼-inch drives, power supply units,
system fan modules, server management ServerView, Prefailure Detection and
Analyzing (PDA), and Automatic Server Reconfiguration and Restart (ASR&R).
Security functions in the BIOS Setup and on the system board protect the data
on the server against manipulation. The front doors of the floorstand model can
be monitored centrally. As a rack model, the lockable front door of the rack
offers additional security.
This operating manual tells you how to put your server into operation, how to
operate it in daily use, and how to expand your server.
ISteps which are identical for the floorstand model and rack model are
only described for the floorstand model.
Steps which are identical for the 1.6-inch hard disk subsystem model and
the 1-inch hard disk subsystem model are only described for the 1.6-inch
subsystem model.

1.1 Features
System board
For a description of the features of the board integrated in your server, please
see the technical manual of the System Board for the hardware and BIOS Setup
for the firmware.
Hard disk subsystem (1.6-inch or 1-inch variant)
The PRIMERGY H200 server is available in two variants, each with a different
hard disk subsystem. The 1.6-inch hard disk subsystem consists of two SCSI
backplanes and up to eight internal hard disk drive modules. The 1-inch hard
disk subsystem consists of two SCSI backplanes and up to twelve internal hard
disk drive modules.
Each internal hard disk drive module can accommodate a SCSI hard disk drive
with an SCA (Single Connector Attachment) interface and a maximum height of
1.6 inches and 1 inch, respectively. The connection to the SCSI backplane is
implemented via the SCA interface (no cable required) and allows the internal
hard disk drive modules to be attached or detached without problems. The hard
disk subsystem is designed for Ultra3 SCSI (LVD). The hard disk subsystem can
be controlled by the onboard (standard) controller or by a disk array controller.
If the server is equipped with a disk array controller, hard disk drives can also
be replaced during operation (hot swapping). For more information, see the
section “Swapping SCSI hard disk drives during operation” on page 68.
Accessible 5¼-inch drives
The accessible 5¼-inch drives can be exchanged online - subject to certain
conditions. For more information, see the section “Accessible drives” on
page 75.
Power supply
In the basic configuration, the server is equipped with one power supply unit.
According to the system configuration, a second or third power supply unit can
be added to achieve a redundant power supply. If a defect occurs in one power
supply unit, a redundant configuration allows the other units to ensure
unimpaired further operation. The defective unit can then be replaced during
operation (hot plug power supply).

High level of availability and fault protection
When accessing stored data, 1-bit errors in the main memory are automatically
recognized and corrected (EDC = Error Detection and Correction). The
patented memory scrubbing function regularly starts up the EDC mechanism
and thus ensures continuous data integrity.
ASR&R (Automatic Server Reconfiguration and Restart) fades out defective
system components during an automatic system reboot.
The Prefailure Detection and Analyzing (PDA) technology reports the threat of
system errors or problems to the system administrator so that preventative
measures can be taken.
The optional disk array controller increases system availability and supports the
RAID levels 0, 1, and 5.
The hot swappable hard disk drives provide additional protection.
Server management
Server management is implemented with the aid of the supplied ServerView
software and PDA (Prefailure Detection and Analyzing) technology. The PDA
analyzes and monitors all components relevant to system reliability, thus
enabling early detection of overload situations and appropriate troubleshooting.
ServerView enables the management of all PRIMERGY servers in the network
via a central console. Here ServerView supports the following functions:
●Temperature monitoring of the CPU and the surrounding area
●Timer-controlled switch-on (Timer)
●Remote switch-on (Ring Indicator)
●Watchdog timer for Automatic Server Reconfiguration and Restart (ASR&R)
in the event of failure of memory modules or processors
●Pager message when rebooting system following an error
●Monitoring of PCI bus loading
●End-of-Life monitoring of the fans with timely indication before failure
●Watchdog timer for operating system monitoring and application monitoring
●Detailed status and error reports for bus systems, processors, and main
memory

ServerStart
You can configure the PRIMERGY server quickly and with precision using the
ServerStart software provided. User-guided menus are available for installing the
server operating systems.
Service and Support
PRIMERGY servers are service-friendly and modular, thus enabling quick and
simple maintenance. The flash EPROM program supplied with the FSC utilities
supports fast BIOS update. With the optional Remote Test and Diagnostic
System RemoteView, long-distance maintenance and service (remote) can also
be performed on servers of the PRIMERGY series.

This manual is intended for those responsible for installing the hardware and
ensuring that the system runs smoothly. The operating manual contains all the
information required for installing and operating your PRIMERGY H200.
Knowledge of the hardware and data transfer, as well as basic knowledge of the
operating system used, is required to understand the various expansion
options. You should also have good working knowledge of the English
language.
