For your safety
This manual contains important information for safely and correctly using this
product.
Carefully read the manual before using this product. Pay particular attention to
the accompanying manual "Safety Notes and Regulations" and ensure these
safety notes are understood before using the product. Keep this manual and the
manual "Safety Notes and Regulations" in a safe place for easy reference while
using this product.
Radio interference
This product is a "Class A" ITE (Information Technology Equipment). In a
domestic environment this product may cause radio interference, in which case
the user may be required to take appropriate measures. VCCI-A
Aluminum electrolytic capacitors
The aluminum electrolytic capacitors used in the product's printed circuit board
assemblies and in the mouse and keyboard are limited-life components. Use of
these components beyond their operating life may result in electrolyte leakage
or depletion, potentially causing emission of foul odor or smoke.
As a guideline, in a normal office environment (25°C) operating life is not
expected to be reached within the maintenance support period (5 years).
However, operating life may be reached more quickly if, for example, the
product is used in a hot environment. The customer shall bear the cost of
replacing replaceable components which have exceeded their operating life.
Note that these are only guidelines, and do not constitute a guarantee of
trouble-free operation during the maintenance support period.
High safety use
This product has been designed and manufactured for general uses such as
general office use, personal use, domestic use and normal industrial use. It has
not been designed or manufactured for uses which demand an extremely high
level of safety and carry a direct and serious risk to life or body if such safety
cannot be ensured.

These uses include control of nuclear reactions in nuclear power plants,
automatic airplane flight control, air traffic control, traffic control in mass
transport systems, medical devices for life support, and missile guidance
control in weapons systems (hereafter, "high safety use"). Customers should
not use this product for high safety use unless measures are in place for
ensuring the level of safety demanded of such use. Please consult the sales
staff of Fujitsu if intending to use this product for high safety use.
Measures against momentary voltage drop
This product may be affected by a momentary voltage drop in the power supply
caused by lightning. To prevent a momentary voltage drop, use of an AC
uninterruptible power supply is recommended.

1.4 Rack stability
Rack stability protects personnel and equipment.
VWARNING!
To reduce the risk of personal injury or damage to equipment:
●Extend leveling jacks to the floor.
●Ensure that the full weight of the rack rests on the leveling jacks.
●Install stabilizing feet on the rack.
●In multiple-rack installations, fasten racks together securely.
●Extend only one rack component at a time. Racks can become
unstable if more than one component is extended.

2 Introduction
The PRIMERGY SX05 S1 is a rack-mountable storage system capable of
holding up to two half-height 5.25 inch drives. It is compatible with most
standard 19 inch racks.

2.1 Standard features
The standard features of the PRIMERGY SX05 S1 are summarized below:
●Supports one or two 5.25 inch half-height tape drives or RDX removable
hard drives
●Installation in standard 19 inch racks with round, square, or threaded holes
IInstallation of the PRIMERGY SX05 S1 in PRIMERGY Racks is tested.
If there are questions concerning mounting the device in third party
19" racks, please consult the vendor of the rack.

2.3 Cabling
2.3.1 SAS cabling recommendations
IPRIMERGY SX05 S1 supports two types of interfaces. One is SAS
interface, another is USB interface.
In the case of SAS interface model, PRIMERGY SX05 S1 connects with
a server with an external SAS cable via SAS interface board.
VCAUTION
High quality external SAS cables rated at the transfer rate of the tape
drive are required. Always verify the external SAS cable you are using is
rated for the data transfer speed of the interface of your components.
SAS cables described as "equalized" may not support 6 Gb/s data rates
and should not be used with LTO-5 tape drives unless these cables are
verified for 6 Gb/s data rates. For optimum performance, only use cables
of the length specified as qualified for your products. Refer to the
PRIMERGY's website for recommended cables.
The SAS interface board has two external ports and the supplied internal SAS
cable, illustrated below, supports connection of two devices. Several cabling
configurations are possible, but the following cabling configuration is
recommended to provide the most consistent layout between devices and
external connectors.
Looking at the rack from the rear, the right-most external port is port 1 and the
left-most external port is port 2.

Introduction
When two SAS devices are installed, the right–most connector of the internal
cable is connected to the device on the right and the left-most connector of the
internal cable is connected to the device on the left. This routes the right-hand
device to external port 1 and the left-hand device to external port 2.
INOTE:
The interface board has text, “Port 1–0” and “Port 2–0”, on the board
near the internal SAS connector, which also helps identify the routing to
the external ports.
2.3.2 USB cabling recommendations
In the case of USB interface model, two USB cables are built in.
When two USB devices are installed, the right side USB cable is connected to
the device on the right and the left side USB cable is connected to the device
on the left.

3 Drive installation
A 3/16” (5mm) flat-blade screwdriver may be required to install a drive in the
PRIMERGY SX05 S1.
VCAUTION!
●To avoid damaging the equipment due to electrostatic discharge, be
sure to review and practice the procedures in Electrostatic discharge
before handling the drives.
It is necessary to stop all servers connected with the SAS drive
enclosure before work begins.
To install a drive:
ÊRemove the top access panel as shown.
1. Unlock the lock lever (1).
2. Lift up the lock lever (2), the top access panel is slided to back side.
3. Remove the top access panel (3).

Drive installation
ÊRemove the drive blank:
1. Pull the spring-loaded button on the right mounting rail up (1).
2. Slide the assembly forward and then lift up (2).

ÊInstall the mounting brackets to the sides of the drive. With tape drives,
always use the screws provided with the tape drive.
