•The BEC (Battery Eliminator Circuitry) system is a highperformance constant voltage
circuit (regulator). Sincetherunning Nicdbattery can also beusedas the receiver servo
powersupply, there isnotroublesome wiring andthe vehicle canbemadelighter.

•The PP-S148 is a low 1.4 inches high and has a thin
design thatcan beeasily mounted in all models.
•Vibration and shock resistance have been improved
further by using a direct wiringsystem which directly
connects the servo amp, motor and potentiometer.
•The height of the servo has been reduced and high
torque, high speed, and smooth movement equal to that
of the coreless servo have beenrealizedby using a new
small, high-performance motor. (Output torque 42
oz-in<3kg, cm), operating speed 0.22 sec/60°).
•New indirect drive/completelysealed potentiometer
substantially improves vibration andshock resistance,
and neutral accuracy.
•Unique Futaba power-saving custom 1Cprovides high

•Fiberglass P8T (polybutylene terephthalate) servo case
is mechanically strong and isinvulnerable to glow fuel.
•Strong polyacetyl resin precision servo gear featuring

plating improves the servo amp vibration and shock

•Nomenclature
•The name of each part of the transmitter is
shown inthe figure. Learn them beforeope-
rating your set.
When running the vehicle, extend the antenna
fully.
Beforeusing the set, check the remaining
battery capacity bychecking the level meter.

•USING THE FREQUENCY FLAG
Attach the frequency flag to
the flag holder as shown inthe
figure.

•LOADINGTHE PENLIGHT BATTERIES
•Remove the battery cover at the rear andinsert eight penlightbatteries inthe correct polarity.

four at a time from the back.
•Extendthe antennafullyand set the power switchtoON.
The level meter pointer shoulddeflecttothe silver zone. If the point-
erdoes not move, or moves verylittle,checkforpoorbattery con-
tact,incorrectbatterypolarity,or faultybatteries.
•Ifthe pointerofthe level meter deflectstothe red zone,the range of
the radio waveswillbecome short.When thepointer drops tothe
boundary between the silverand red zones,change thebatteries.
•The trim levers are used tofine adjust the steering angle. They are
used to adjust the neutralpositionand forcorrectingthe running
posture afterthe mechanism is mounted. Aftertestrunning, make
correctionswiththe rod adjuster,etc.and operate theset with the
trim levers in the neutralposition as much as possible.

•CHANGING THE THROTTLE STICK FROM A SELF-NEUTRAL SYSTEM TO A RATCHET SYSTEM
•Whenchanging the throttlestick froma self-neutral
systemtoa ratchetsystem,install the optional slider.
Then,remove the spring and swing arm.
Install the optional
slider.

•CRYSTALREPLACEMENT
•When changingthe band,removethe crystal holderand
change the crystal. (Except 72.75 MHz inUSA)
•Futaba DigitalProportionalFrequencies(FOR
U.S.A.)
•The frequency of Futaba digital proportional sets can be
changed within their own band. Thereare4 different
bands foryoutochoose from(27 MHz, 50—53 MHz,
72 MHz, and 75 MHz.) Please see chart listed below for
specificfrequency and its intended use.Please note there
are specificfrequencies allocated for aircraft onlyand
surfaceonly use.
•The frequency can bechanged within the same BAND by
using a precisely matched pair ofFutaba crystals.
However, Futaba recommends thatyou returnyour
systemtoour factoryservice department forfrequency
changing, as turning may benecessary forproper opera-
tion. Changing frequency fromone bandtoanother is
NOT possible.
•Alwayschange frequencyflagwhenfrequencyis changed.
The frequencyflagisto beattachedtothetop ofantenna
and thechannel designation tothebase. (SeeDrawing)
•It isillegal tochange crystalsof 72—75MHz bands in the
U.S.A.

TheFutabaBEC system canalsousea commonpowersupplywith the conventionalfour penlightbatteriessystem
(separatepowersupply).
•A common power supply regulator and diode may also be supplied with the speed controller, depend-
ing on the vehicle kit. Since they cause a voltage drop, always remove them.

•Set the transmitterpower switch to ON, then set the receiver power switch to ON. The servos stop near the neutral
position.Operatethetransmittersticksand checkif each servofaithfullyfollowsoperationofthe sticks.

•Connect the pushrodto each servo horn,then check ifthe direction of travel of each servo matches the transmitter

•Operate each servo over its full travel and check ifthe pushrod binds or is too loose. Applying unreasonable force to
the servo horn will adversely affectthe servo and quickly drain the battery. Be especially careful when using 8.4V.
•Alwaysmake the fullstroke(including trim)of the servo horns somewhat larger than the fulltravel.Adjustthe
servohorns sothat they move smoothly even when the trim lever andstick are operated simultaneously inthe same
direction.
•Bealertfornoise.
Alwayssolder a noise killing capacitor to the runningmotor. Ifmetal parts touch eachother due to vibration, noise
will begenerated and cause the receiver servos to operate erroneously. We recommend the use of noiseless parts.
• Even though the receiver antenna wire is long, do not cut or bundle it. The range of the radiowaves will be shortened.

•A spare horn is provided. Useitas required.
•Wrapthereceiverin sponge rubber and wraprubber bands around the sponge rubber.Mountthe receiverso itis
not exposed tovibration,does not touch the frame,and does not move.
•Whenthereceiveris installedon a board or used whereitmay besplashed withmud and water,place itin a plastic
bag, etc.and wrap a rubber band around theopen end ofthe bagtowaterproof and dustproof the receiver.Afteruse,
remove the receiver fromthebag toprevent condensation.
•Usethe rubber bands wrapped around thereceivertohold the servoand switch leads.
•Aftermounting iscomplete,recheckeach part,then checkthetransmittingrange bymaking the transmitterantenna
as shortas possible and extendingthereceiver antennafullyand operatingtheset froma distance of 20m to 30m. The
movement ofeach servoshouldfollowthe movement of thetransmittersticks.
•The crystalcan bechanged fromthe outsideofthereceivercase. (Except 72/75MHzinU.S.A)Always usea Futaba
transmitterand receivercrystalpair as the replacement crystals.

•WHEN VEHICLEWILLNOT BE USED
Besure and release the connector of running
Nicdbattery except when you are on the way
tothestarting line.
When notusingthe
connector, set the
switchto OFF.
Releasethe connector.
To obtain the best possible range (car to transmitter
distance) and reduce the possibility of interference,
pleaseobserve these antenna routing instructions.
Failure to follow these guidelines can result inloss
of control or limited range
1)NEVER cut your receiver'santenna wire.
Your system has beenprecisely tuned to the full
length of the stock antenna.
2) Excess antenna wire should NOT be tightly
coiled. To safely store the excess wire make
an antenna shortener froma small piece of stiff
cardboard. This will provide maximum reception
andprevent tangling and breakage of the wire.
3) When routing the antenna wire to the antenna
tube keep the wire awayfrombattery and speed
control wiring.The highpower of the NiCd
battery creates electrical "noise" which can cause
interference.
SNOW IS WATER
Remember that operating yourFX10on snow
orinwet areas isnot recommended. Melted
snow becomes water which willdamage orshort
out your system's electronics._____
