GE JV386 Installation instructions

Your hood has anameplate on which is stamped the model number and serial number. To
locate nameplate, extend hood as far as it will open and look to left of filter.
Model and serial numbers are also on the Purchase Record Card which came with your hood.
Before sending in this card, please record the numbers in the space below, or get them from
nameplate described above, and record here.

Please reference both these numbers in any future correspondence or product service calls
concerning your hood.

@* AFETYTIPS TO FOLLOWWHILE COOKINGELECTRICALLY
When you get your new hood.. .
Have it installed by aqualified installer using installation instructions provided.
This assures adequate grounding.
Have the installer show you the location of the range circuit breaker or fuse,
and mark it for easy reference. Your range hood is connected to this circuit.
Do take the time to read our suggestions for best use.
When using your hood. ..
Due to the hood fan drawing power, special caution is needed to avoid spreading
of possible f}ame from the cookingsurface of your range.
Never !eave surface units unattended at high heat settings. Boilover causes
smoking and greasy spillovers that may ignite and spread if ventilating hood
is used. Use surface unit heat settings recommended by manufacturer and
adequate-size utensils.
When flaming foods under the hood, turn the fan off. The fan, if operating, may
spread the flame.
Never use your cooking appliance for warming or heating the room.
Keep hood and grease filters clean according to instructions to maintain good
venting and to avoid grease fires.
DO NOT USE WATER ON GREASE FIRES. NEVER PICK UPA FLAMING PAN.
Smother flaming pan on surface unit by covering pan completely with well fit-
ting lid, cookie sheet or flat tray.
Flaming grease outside pan can be extinguished by baking soda or, if available,
amulti-purpose dry chemical or foam type extinguisher.

HOOD EXTENSION .
NOTE: Packamd with the Ventilating Hood are 2additional metal grease filters. These filters
are to be use&ONLY on models with;l two way venting system and c&not be used on any other
models. To install, remove metal plates (located under microwave oven and above the range
cooktop )by grasping the finger hold on the plate and pushing to the rear. The plate will drop out.
To install grcxasefilter, insert the filter in the top frame slot on the back of the opening. Push to
the back and upward.
These filters will automaticallyyoperate whenever the hood ventilating fan switch is on.

~~~~~~~~ There m-e two removable metal filters located above the cooktop (on models so
equipped ), and one in the hood loGated behind the hood extension. These separate grease from
the air being vented through. Filters must be in place and relatively clean to do an efficient job.
IX) NOT OPERATE THE HOOD WITHOUT THE FILTERS IN PLACE.
Filters become soiled over aperiod of time. The Miciency of your hood depends on how clean
the filters are. Frequency of cleaning, or replacing depends on the type of cooking you do, but
filters should be cleaned AT LEAST ONCE AMONTH. Also, clean frequently the grease-
Iaden surfaces adjaceni to the filters.
REMOVING AND REPLACING FILTERS
Extend hood as far as possible, or remove hood extension if desired, see above. Place fingers on each
eat bottom of filter. Press filter to left until it clears the holder on right side, remove. When
an, replace. Push filter against clip at left and press left until filter clears holder at right side.
Push filter toward opening and release so it slips behind holder. Filters abovethe eooktop (on
modelssoequipped) are removedby graspingthe fingerhold on the filter and pushingto the rear.
The filter will drop out. To replace, insert the filter in the top frame slot on the back of the
opening. Push to the back and upward.

it willturnoff automaticallyand turn on againwhenit hascooled.Motor shutoff is an
indicationof trouble. —
FREQUENT OVERHEATING AND SHUT OFF WILL DAMAGE MOTOR BEAR-
INGS. POSSIBLE CAUSES,SUCH AS THE FAN BLADE STRIKING THE HOOD
SHELL OR EXCESSIVELY SOILED FILTERS, SHOULDBECHECKEDANDCOR-
RECTED BEFORE USING THE HOOD AGAIN.

If thefandoesnotoperatewhenthefanswitchis“ON” andthehoodisextended,checktm
mainfuseorcircuitbreaker.
If the fan operates,but slowerthannormal,themotormayneedoiling.CallyourGeneral -
EIectricserviceman.
If the fan keepsgoingoff andon, check to be surethatthe metalgreasefilteris clean.If
the fan shoulcicontinuecyclingoff and on, callyourGeneralElectricserviceman.
